What Purpose Does It Serve?

The Equinox was excellent. I just finished Inferno by Larry Niven. I read it non-stop, I just couldn't put it down. It was fantastic.

That's exactly how I used to read. Non-stop. In fact, I sometimes had to read books twice just to make sure I didn't miss anything because I read them so fast, lol.

For me EVERYTHING sticks, whether I read it, hear it, see it or do it. The only thing I don't hear is "dad I need $50 for gas". I think that might be on purpose.

That's okay, I'm the OP. I'm not going to report myself, lol

I used to love to read. I think things have just been too stressful the past couple of years. Hopefully I can get back into reading soon. It was always my favorite way to pass the time.

That's good to hear.;)

I hope you do as well. I seem to recall a Jo Nesbro book that you have.;)

...What purpose is there to making them release the recordings? Does it satisfy some grim thrill? I really don't get it. It's not 'news', there's nothing in there that I can conceive of that would benefit the public to know, at least nothing that needs to be heard directly. It's just sensational. Some media outlets looking to make a few more bucks out of this tragedy?

Govt. should keep no secrets from the public. Any secret sets a bad precedent.

But it isn't a secret. It's well known what transpired, the judicial committee (or whatever it was) looking into the shooter posthumously can provide all known findings by transcript to the public without the titilation of media broadcasting the "exciting 911 calls". I don't think it's about keeping secrets, it's about the press wanting to sensationalize and get a few more miles out of the story. And that's tactless as far as I'm concerned.

Helps shut the conspiracy nuts up. Its so strange that some believe it was faked. Of course the fact that it took a year for tapes like this to surface will probably just fuel their paranoia.

Other than that it simply puts what happened out in the open. We can say we know what happened by reading transcripts. Listening and watching is quite different. I havent listened either and dont know if I ever will. Now people have the choice of finding out more or less exactly what happened in detail.

It's no longer informative enough to use the term "conspiracy nuts" without at least one qualifier. Let me help you, on the one hand we have suspicious people who usually don't drink the government koolaid and on the other the sub par minds who will drink anything anybody with a suit hands them. Look at your calender it's later than you think. In these times, the age of conspiracy, it is somewhat of a nostalgic novelty to encounter a green innocent willing to overlook the evidence of government corruption and complicity in these staged crimes which have become all the vogue in these trying times. It is simply efficient business to employ your own pseudo terrorists than to expect actual aliens who may or may not keep filming scheduals. I hope you don't get your drivers license on your sixteenth birthday son.

that isn't a 'government secret', it's an emergency call tape.

Anything touched by govt. is effectively controlled by govt. and as such should be subject to total disclosure. The govt. can never be trusted because it has taken on a life of its own separate and distinct from the people.

The call tape is evidence of what transpired. It's the difference between an evidentiary fact and an ultimate fact.

Do official transcripts serve the same purpose or is it necessary to hear people crying and in fear for their lives. Because that is the part that's objectionable.

There is still a difference between having it open to the public, and broadcast to the public. Trust me, we do not want to sit and hear all of the government goings on broadcast, it would be boring as sin. Media is not clambering for that job, because it wouldn't sell. THIS is about selling, not 'transparency'.

Your point is well taken.

The American media has become part of the govt. That's why Americans don't trust any one any longer. But I understand where you're coming from. Trust still exists in Canada. I remember when Americans still trusted their govt. I was young then. Now I'm old.
