Well that would be good but here is another kudu to Canada.

A lot of Canadians do not like the idea that we Americans know so little about Canada or care. Perhaps they are right. Below is the link for Don Reddick. He is from the town where I live and has written two books about Canadians and Canadian hockey. Not the Ol' NHL stuff, but Old Time Canadian Hockey and it's players. As in my previous post, the first book was the "Dawson City Seven". A team who challenged the Stanley Cup winners (not the Canadians, whoops) from Ottawa. The second book was called "Killing Frank McGee" about a Canadian hockey player and Stanley Cup winner who was killed in WWI.

Perhaps some of you would like to hear that we all aren't as dim on Canada.

I heard something this morning when I was surfing to hear the overnight news....the two blowdrys were talking about immigration and the U.S........

One said: "The United States isn't just a nation to many people in the world, it is an ideology...."

Right on - there is a feeling of responsibility assigned, independent thought, 'get er done' cheerleading, 'what do you need?' queries, and a positive attitude, even when things are at their lowest.

It makes me feel alive.

If this is finally beaten out of the American people as their standing on the world stage diminishes, I hope the same attitude and way of life is picked up by another nation or group of nations.

It belongs to everyone and I hope everyone gets to experience it some day.
I want to back you up here Curio.... you can bash America for all its faults and then some but the ideology of what the founding theme the US stands for rings loud.

Thanks ElBarto

I've pretty much given up on who likes what anyway.....people who take pride in seeing the worst in things says a great deal about them.

I've been and lived in all the provinces from Quebec west and each one has its beauty - I miss that I didn't get as far as the Atlantic - and still wish I could now that Sassie lives there....maybe some day.

But this is a U.S. topic.... or was....

Why not repsect the OP and join the various and sundry anti-yank threads elsewhere. If none are to your liking, perhaps start your own clever and witty one. For the time being Cosmo politely asked all to refrain from the drama and attention-seeking of America bashing. Thank you for your time.

whining

Comparing a little US history to what we have "above the border" is not bashing,,,no whining pls.

One place that I forgot to mention that I want to travel to is Alaska...it looks beautiful!
Speaking of accents, when I worked at Painter's Lodge, I waited on mostly American's, and picked up their twangs, Then I moved to Ottawa, and everyone was asking "what part of the US are you from" I didn't even know I had acquired an accent from them...how does that happen?

The way I speak changes with each new person I'm around. I tend to borrow inflections and accents like mad. I think the only person I haven't acquired a thing or two from speech wise is my friend from South Africa.

One day no-one will know where i'm from at all

I still say no worries all the time. Picked that up from an Australian friend. I'm a bit like that too Karrie. I think it's probably normal. If I were to marry an Aussie, and move to Australia, I'm sure that child would have an Australian accent.

cause northern girls say yes you can..and southern girls say yes you'all can hahaha!!!

truthfully though....

I like the confidence, openess and friendly ways of the U.S.

I like that they understand retail and hospitallity and do it so well

and last I like that they will take matters into their own hands such as grassroots lobbing to have congress pass a bill.

All things missing in our makeup...

Hear hear!

I say anyone involved in serving customers in the UK ought to first be smacked around a few times, then forced to go take some lessons in the US. Customer service in the UK STINKS

`` Nathans hot dogs ``

Hey Doc!

In my youth, Coney Island was my favorite hang out. And yes, while Nathan's hot dogs were fabulous - his French fries were impeccable. That's what I really enjoyed above all in that famous place.

Sadly, it is said that Coney Island has closed its doors for the final time and that they will not re-open in Spring.

How sad. It should have had landmark status but, as always, the monied corporate directors always get their way and we will soon lose another public treasure.

Very sad, indeed. :-(
i had a hot dog at that very stand the fall of 1970...had this mustard stick to apply it...cool huh....
