I live fairly close to downtown now. Between the mini explosions and random screams it kind of sounds like there's a massacre happening out there. But no, just celebrating.

Relax, the Zombies come out after sunset. Then you can panic.

I've never had Lucky Larger. PBR is making a big comeback for folks who are just going out to get "bit".

I used to be a strictly Bud/Bud Light drinker. However I have found myself going to the tap more and more for Blue Moon or the various seasonal beers.

If I am going out with the guys... definitely Bud Light. For 4th of July we'll be filling up the Red Plastic Cups with Bud Light behind the pick-up during the parade for sure.

Is Bud and Bud light popular there?
Bud in Canada is like rotgut. Probably very different from what is brewed in the US.

To me, Canada Day would normally mean a day at the beach with a few other families.
Here in the Vancouver area, my family and a few others would usually meet at White Pine Beach in Port Moody (a suburb of Vancouver).

Unfortunately, it has gotten WAY too busy in recent years. You have to get there around 9 am just to get a decent parking spot. Or you end up parking a mile or more away, walking with three children, dragging coolers, umbrellas, beach pail and shovels (toys) for the kids, etc.. And then you still have to put up with a place that is too crowded. On a holiday, I want to be less stressed than I am at work; not more. But that is what happens. My blood pressure usually hits a high by 9:15 am and I drop a few f-bombs.

And to make matters worse, somebody has been scheduling a swim meet or mini-triathlon there on Canada Day too. As if it wasn't busy enough already! No thanks. So we will avoid White Pine Beach from now on. Today we just had a quiet day at home.

In any case, I hope everybody else had a good Canada Day.

I had plans to attend local Canada Day celebrations - get my face painted, wave the flag, schmooze with friends and neighbors and generally have a grand time. Instead, I helped a neighbor move a shed........hot, sweaty, hard work.........but you know what......I think it was a great way to spend the day and what could be more Canadian then helping someone out.

........I didn't need to have my face painted as the heat did a fine job of that........bonus!

:canada:I think the way you celebrated is the nicest way of all...was thinking of fireworks this evening but we all got into the wine instead, if we all go to the front of the building fireworks can be viewed from a few of the stadiums without having to drive... :)

Our local fire department - good choice, doncha think - puts on a fire works display every July 1rst down by the water. I'm going to take the doggies, a beach chair and go sit in the lake while I watch the sky light up later............hopefully by then the temps will have fallen a bit.

I am a Quebecer, but a proud Canadian first and Quebecer second. God help the one who tries to take that away from me. Have just read the posts in this thread and agree with all the good things that were said about this country.

HAPPY CANADA DAY TO ALL

Good idea, Sal..........that way you get to see a really great display from afar............just as I will.

It's too friggin' cold here to be sitting by the water in a beach chair...lol...we are at 20°. Glad your doggies are calm with the noise...my girlfriend's try to bury themselves on your lap... and the one usually pees herself or you if she is on ya...lol...poor little things

Nothing bothers my little Bobbie, she has the calmest disposition of any dog I have ever had. Rowan is a bit more excitable but if anything he will probably just bark a bit as he does when I am cheering for a hockey or football team. LOL! I am also house-sitting two dogs and Joey might want to swim across the lake and join the festivities. Rosie will probably just lie down in the water and cool off - she's pretty low key too.

If I was still looking after Mollie for my girl friend Virginia.........that would be a totally different matter, she would react like your girl friend's dog.

Just very thankful to live in the best country in the world, with virtually all the freedoms (in spite of whining to the contrary), so long as you do no harm to anyone else.
