According to Steven Harper the other day, the ARCH-centrist Liberals constitute a threat to the nation in government. Now setting aside that opinion for a moment, what exactly is an arch-centrist?

I know if you're way off on the extreme right of the political spectrum you're considered an arch-conservative or on the far left an arch-socialist, but once you're at the center by definition you're in a position of moderation, and any change in position doesn't make you a more extreme centrist, it takes you towards either extreme.

I think what Harper was really saying is that he would like to bring the entire nation to his extreme political position given the chance. The term arch-centrist describes his personal opinion of the moderate and much more balanced view of the world held by most Canadians.

Now who truly poses more of a threat to Canadians if in government?

I think it was politico mumbo jumbo. Really, it could have come from any politician.

Wake up and realize they are all out to get their six years in and get a cash for life pension. They don't care about you or your needs. All politicians are money grubbing selfish pigs. Hope this clears up your problem of trying to understand why Harper used such an idiotic term as 'arch centrist'. This term, as you has so cleverly sighted, can not exist. So therefore the use of it is either a conniving manipulation or sheer stupidity. Obviously Harper is not stupid at all so therefore, get ready for the reveal, he used this term in a knowing fashion to trick the voters into thinking he is good for us.

OK. Just wait. Before you "I only vote for 'da right" types start, I would propose that you will here equally moronic, dirty and manipulative statements from each party in turn. Please make me aware of them as I would be happy to make their lies and two faced manipulations as public as possible.

I think he meant arch nemesis.

Duh. he knows what he meant. You think Harper said something that wasn't calculated before hand?

And I thought I was cynical.

It was basically an admission by Harper of just how extreme his political views are when compared to most Canadians, the center only seems so extreme to him because he's so far from it.

Oh. So it was an unrehearsed off the cuff sarcastic remark? You may find me cynical but you won't find any unrehearsed remarks in the next six weeks. At least not from the leaders.

We'll see on May 2. Who are you putting your money on?

If I had a real choice I wouldn't let any of them have my money, they waste it a spend it on frivoulous things after spending 10 million on a study to see if the original $10 million study on buying the frivolous thing was valid. The few who have good intentions going in are usually sucked into the dark side or leave after 1 term where they could get anything good done.

I keep trying to imagine what goes through the head of someone scared by "arch-centrists".

Arch-centrists implies ultra-moderates.

What in the world is to be feared from moderation?

It's like Harpo said, "The only thing we have to fear is moderation itself".

Unless it was a slip of the tongue, it implies Harpo believes it would motivate his constituents into a state of panic.

Picture living in a nation ruled by a government elected by constituents from barrels of terrified-of-moderation monkeys.

What a party that would be.

It's funny how some people see an election like a football game where they get to "cheer on their team". It's also funny that Conservative "fans" can't (or haven't) really said anything positive about their team. Their sole argument is that the Cons are not as bad as the others. They remind me of Flames fans. After another substandard season, the best they can come up with is "Hey, at least we aren't the Oilers"

Well from what I can gather the worst thing about the Conservatives is Harper's personality. The more I hear Iggy and Layton yapping about these mini scandals, the less credibility they have. Helena Guergis....................who the f**K cares? Canada has done better than any other country in the G 20, so you have to give him credit for that. They yap away about this spending on the military..................is that a bad thing? Don't we want to be prepared for an invasion? Until Harper does something really obnoxious I'll take my chances with him over the other loons. Yeah, actually an election is kind of like the playoffs.

Northern Ontario,
After having a Liberal in my riding for over 60 years and when finaly kicked out was replaced by by an NDP who changed her vote on the gun registry at the last vote.
The last time the Conservative candidate didn't sound to good... but now Ray Sturgeon of Thessalon, a retired military man with 24 years in the service seems like a good choice.....If only young people don't hold his white hair against him.;-)

You're joking right? I think the best thing about the Conservatives is Stephen's personality. Granted, he's no Trudeau or Klein but given the long list of uninspiring politicians we've had over the last 40 or 50 years, there isn't much to complain about.

The more I hear Iggy and Layton yapping about these mini scandals, the less credibility they have. Helena Guergis....................who the f**K cares?

Not Conservative supporters obviously.

Canada has done better than any other country in the G 20, so you have to give him credit for that.

Why just credit him? He couldn't do anything without the support of at least one of the opposition parties. Besides, you really can't argue that Canada was left in much better shape because of his predecessors and the fact that we are a resource rich country.

They yap away about this spending on the military..................is that a bad thing?

It's one of the few things he's got right.

Don't we want to be prepared for an invasion?

Spending on the military won't help (unless we want to spend 20 - 30 times more.

Until Harper does something really obnoxious I'll take my chances with him over the other loons.

Thanks for proving my point. "I'll take my chances". You don't generally hear that type of talk from the fans of other parties.

I was refering to the rest of your post and no I don't think it was unrehearsed. It's just more of what we've been getting for the last five years trying to reposition Canada as a right wing nation in voters minds.

I keep trying to imagine what goes through the head of someone scared by "arch-centrists".

Right, the message is "We need to fear the extremist moderates", it's a contradiction in terms.
