The thought that the rich and wealthy are all GOP members is a stretch. Ever hear of the Kennedy's? John Kerry and his wife... the heiress of the Heinze Ketchup Empire...Hollywood? The Gore's? Clinton's?

Hardly Republicans.

Quite right, EagleSmack, and Democrats aren’t complaining, it is the rich Republicans who are whining.

Obama wants to tax the rich people, earning more than 200,000 $ per year. Well, not really tax them, he simply doesn’t want to renew Bush’s tax cuts for the wealthy. Even with increased taxes, the rich will pay taxes at a level comparable to they did under Clinton. The taxes under Clinton didn’t exactly make them breadline poor.

Those earning more than 200,000 $ per year should be glad of their good fortune. Not only they are making more than most people, but they have a job (or more likely, a thriving business). Their brothers and sisters are hurting, so what if they sacrifice a little? They have had it way too cushy under Bush anyway, whose first act when he took office was to enact a huge tax cut for the rich.

If Canadian government wants to increase taxes on those making more than 200,000 $ per year, I for one wouldn’t have a problem with it, provided the increased revenue is put to a good use.

I think the Republicans are complaining about Obama and the Democrats in general. Not just the tax on 200K earners...but everything. His bloated stimulus... banks are not lending yet STILL giving themselves big bonuses. They have a right to complain.

By the way... some Democrats are complaining about the tax on 200K plus earners as they say it will reduce donations to charities.

The Democrats whined for 8 years... now it is the GOP's turn.

They're still choked at gettin' smoked in the last election. They just need a "new" war to feel "all warm and fuzzy" again

Can your goverment be trusted any more than mine to good use? I think it is just more money being dumped into a bottomless pit that we will never see again.

Of course not. They who will miss the money least aren't going to miss it any more whether it's fed to a pit or some monument to stupidity.....

Ironsides, I am not opposed to tax increases for ideological reasons, as conservatives are. A conservative hasn’t come across tax increase he liked, the classic conservative philosophy is ‘borrow and spend’.

So I am not ideologically opposed to tax increases, I want to see the whole package. E.g. if the tax increases are implemented to reduce budget deficit, I would like to know if there have been corresponding spending cuts, what are the deficit targets for the next several years etc.

If tax increase is implemented to tide over the hard economic times such as we currently have, I would like to know how is the money going to be spent, is the government eliminating the waste, is the government spending the money prudently etc.

Economics is never as easy as the conservatives make it out to be (taxes are always bad, help to poor is always bad, tax cuts to the rich are always good). Things are never clear cut, never as black and white as conservatives would like us to believe. Real world is more complicated that the simplistic conservative picture of more tax cuts and more borrowing.

Americans Waking Up to Obamabeast

Ah, living in America. The bulk of the sheeple in the Demoliberal parties are just waking up to the impending disaster. Living through the election and inaguration has been hell :angryfire:. There is nothing to stop this destruction the "Prezidink" has started...and in such a short period of time.

I imagine it would be Hell for a Republican, GreatGuns. Your side has been in total control for six years (controlling both the Presidency and Congress and of course Supreme Court has been a Republican majority since way before 2000 when they awarded Presidency to their crony, Bush). Plus your side controlled Presidency and the Supreme court in 2006 to 2008 (you lost the Congress in 2006).

When your party had total control of all the three branches of the government, they made a royal mess of the economy. We had two severe economic downturns during Bush’s watch, one in 2001-2002 and the current one.

Is it any wonder that people got fed up with Republican ineptness and mismanagement and decided to give the other side a chance? Just live with it and be patient. If democrats make as big a mess of things as your side did (though that would be difficult to do), your side may well come back in 2010 and/or 2012.

The "disaster began Jan/2000 and it rapidly escalted downhill since

Obama has the task of trying to roll a boulder up a hill

But, being from the California toilet bowl, you already knew that

I guess you don't really want to hear what an 'American' thinks do you?

There is one cliche here that doesn't think your opinion matters because you are an American and another that thinks your opinion doesn't matter because you are right of centre. The rest of us aren't that clueless.

Sure we think. We think you Canadians are the embodiment of Officer Carl Levitt played by Ron Carey in the 1970's American TV sitcom 'Barney Miller'. An urbane version of Barney Fife.
Somebody had to replace the Puerto Rican who went to play on Chico and the Man.

Jindal has to do some major rehabilitation of his image, after his disastrous performance opposite Obama. If Jindal is the Republican candidate in 2012, Obama will eat him for lunch during the debates, at least on style if not on substance.

Jindal needs to do major rebuilding before he is ready to leave the backwaters of Louisiana and make it to prime time.

The "holy Ghost" Jindal will tank the Republicans just like Palin's influence in the last election (est. she cost McCain 2 million votes)

If the Republicans had any brains at all (and that's not apparent today), they would be recruiting Hagel or Luger to broaden their base, appeal to borderline or centrist voters and diminish the power of the holy rollers and fringe lunatics (Limbaugh, Brownback, Gingrich, etc) in their party.

Then they may stand a chance.

Republicans being who and what they are though, they'll throw a Gingrich-Palin ticket out there in 2012 and get massacred

"The "disaster began Jan/2000 and it rapidly escalted downhill since" try 1993 took more than 1 administration.

ok. You want to get technical. It crested the mountain in 1981 and has been in a gradual freefall since, except when Clinton managed to drag The USA out of debt once again (why is it that Democrats seem to be able to do that and Republicans can't?)
