Chrystia Freeland “abruptly” resigned as Finance Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Monday as she delivered a powerful condemnation of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s leadership and his handling of the country’s economy.

The “sudden” resignation came only hours before Ms. Freeland was set to read the fall fiscal and economic update in the House of Commons, leaving the government scrambling to figure out how to handle the unveiling of their latest economic blueprint fiasco.

She was expected to miss her deficit target of $40.1-billion and it remains unclear if the economic update will be presented Monday? The 4pm today update on how much they missed their target last year? That one?

So, is she still the Deputy Prime Minister?

Ms. Freeland said she resigned after the Prime Minister informed her on Friday that he no longer wanted her to be his top economic minister.

Ms. Freeland said the government needs to keep spending under control to be able to effectively deal with the incoming Trump administration, in an apparent swipe at the GST tax holiday measure, seen by her own department as “economically unwise.”

“We need to take that threat extremely seriously. That means keeping our fiscal powder dry today, so we have the reserves we may need for a coming tariff war,” she wrote. “That means eschewing costly political gimmicks, which we can ill afford and which make Canadians doubt that we recognize the gravity of the moment.”

With Ms. Freeland’s exit, all eyes turn to whether Mr. Carney will become finance minister with a role in overseeing Canada-U.S. relations.

Two sources close to Mr. Carney strongly suggested that he will not accept the offer from the Prime Minister to join the government. The Globe and Mail is not identifying the sources, who were not authorized to speak about the matter ‘cuz the Liberals are still testing the waters using authorized unauthorized leaks, etc…
Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre held a news conference Monday, saying the Prime Minister has lost control and urging the NDP to join the other opposition parties to defeat the minority Liberal government.

Mr. Trudeau went into his previously scheduled cabinet meeting just before Ms. Freeland made her resignation public. Many ministers declined to comment on their way into cabinet, with House Leader Karina Gould walking silently as reporters asked who would now deliver the fall economic statement??? Who indeed?

Housing Minister Sean Fraser, who announced his own resignation from cabinet on Monday, was caught off guard by Ms. Freeland’s announcement, coming as he was making his own.

Following The Globe’s reporting last week, the Prime Minister repeatedly declined to come to Ms. Freeland’s defence despite relentless questioning from the opposition.

Still, at a Tuesday night speech during a dinner to promote women’s involvement in politics, Mr. Trudeau took credit for appointing Ms. Freeland, noting that she is Canada’s first female finance minister (‘cuz it’s 2015-ish?). Three days later he fired her.

Freeland should run in the next federal election as member / leader of a Western party. She could hold quite a bit of power and is done as a Liberal anyway.

Maybe time for Justin to drag Julie Payette out of the rehab center.

On behalf of Western Canadians our response isn't just no. It's Fuck No!
Between watching her lie and get caught about Erin O’toole & her manipulated media thing….& that orgasm she was having at the podium announcing that she was freezing bank accounts during that Ottawa parking fiasco…I second the “Fuck No!” motion.
