Key Senate Republican demands Capitol Police explain initial misreporting of officer's death​

A key Senate Republican on Thursday demanded the Capitol Police explain why it initially reported that Officer Brian Sicknick died from injuries sustained in the Jan. 6 riot when in fact his death was ruled to be naturally caused by strokes.

"The death of any police officer is a tragedy and the use of any officer’s death for political purposes or to create a false narrative is reprehensible and disrespectful to the officer’s family and the officer’s memory," Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., wrote in a letter to Acting Capitol Police Chief Yogananda D. Pittman.

Johnson's letter specifically zeroed in on a Jan. 7 statement the police force issued claiming Sicknick died from “injuries sustained while on-duty after physically engaging with protestors” during the riot.

The senator noted earlier this week that the Washington DC Chief Medical Examiner Francisco Diaz concluded that Sicknick “suffered two strokes and died of natural causes a day after he confronted rioters" and that his body exhibited "no evidence of internal or external injuries."....More

Capitol Police denies Rep. Lofgren's claim officers focused only on anti-Trump protesters in riot​

The force purportedly says in a letter the lawmaker's interpretation of the call is "lacking full and necessary context."

U.S. Capitol Police is refuting a statement made by California Democrat Rep. Zoe Lofgren that officers were focused only on anti-Trump protesters during the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.

Lofgren, chairwoman of the House Administration Committee, which has oversight of the police force, said during a hearing Wednesday that a Capitol Police radio transmission made on the morning of the riot told officers to watch for anti-Trump protesters.

"The radio call has been misquoted and is lacking full and necessary context," Capitol Police said in an unsigned statement obtained by Politico Wednesday night. "The radio call does not mean USCP was only looking out for anti-Trump counter-protesters. The next radio transmission requests that officers be on the lookout for a pro-Trump protester carrying a possible weapon."

The department said the first radio call was broadcast because of reports of possible violent clashes between pro and anti-Trump protesters near the Capitol, as had happened at previous events.

A Lofgren aide argued the statement proved the point that the force was more focused on anti-Trump protesters fighting pro-Trump supporters than grasping the larger intelligence about the potential for a massive breech, which happen that afternoon.

The U.S. Justice Department on Thursday said it expects to charge at least 100 more people for taking part in the deadly Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, bringing the total number of defendants to more than 500.

“Over 400 individuals have been charged in connection with the Capitol attack,” federal prosecutors said in a court filing. “The investigation continues and the government expects that at least one hundred additional individuals will be charged.”


The Justice Department made the disclosure in a set of similar court filings asking judges to postpone deadlines in pending prosecutions.

“The investigation and prosecution of the Capitol attack will likely be one of the largest in American history, both in terms of the number of defendants prosecuted and the nature and volume of the evidence,” the court filings stated.

Supporters of former President Donald Trump stormed the Capitol in an attempt to stop Congress from formally certifying President Joe Biden’s election victory.

The violence started shortly after Trump rallied his supporters and urged them to fight to stop the certification of Biden’s win.

The siege left five people dead and more than 130 police officers injured.


The FBI has been increasingly focused on suspects with ties to right-wing extremist groups including the Oath Keepers and the Proud Boys.

More than 40 members or associates of the two groups have been arrested and charged so far.

A founding member of the Oath Keepers last week became the first person to plead guilty to taking part in the riot, and prosecutors have said other defendants are in plea discussions.

Terry Robberts, the attorney for the family of Ashli Babbit, joined Newsmax TV on Monday morning to discuss the family’s ongoing attempts to seek justice in the shooting death of their daughter Ashli.

Roberts said he is handling the civil action that will be filed, adding, “The family and I were disappointed in the Department of Justice decision on this but my role really is to bring civil action and in that way vindicate her rights.”

In regards to the DOJ decision to protect the identity of the reckless killer, Roberts said, “We strongly disagree with the Justice Department’s decision on this. We think the evidence is ample and would support criminal charges against the officer.”

This is one wrongful death by police that the liberal media has completely ignored. After all, she was only a Trump supporter.

If she didn't want to die, she shouldn't have gone to the Capitol and went onto its grounds illegally.

Cops did their job, move along, nothing to see here.

I think it's fucking horrible this woman was killed, as well as the others on the Hill.

But if they didn't want to die, they shouldn't have stormed a place where getting shot/killed was likely. Where even being there was illegal.

She should have known better but she betrayed her oaths she took while in the military.

No sympathy from me what so ever.

Bragging about participating in the U.S. Capitol riot is more likely land you in handcuffs than on a date.

Unfortunately, Robert Chapman apparently thought the latter after allegedly telling a potential date about participating in the Jan. 6 incident while using the dating app Bumble, NPR reported.

According to court filings, the 50-year-old reportedly told a person he was trying to sweep off their feet that “I did storm the capitol” and boasted that he “made it all the way to Statuary Hall.”

The person he was chatting it up with wasn’t impressed by his admission.

“We are not a match,” the unnamed love match replied.

“I suppose not,” Chapman replied.


The Bumble user Chapman was chatting with reported him to authorities on Jan. 13, which spawned an investigation that culminated in his arrest on Thursday in Carmel, N.Y.

Chapman is charged with two counts of knowingly entering or remaining in a restricted building without lawful authority, and two counts of violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds.

Chapman was subsequently released on bail after a virtual court appearance. He is barred from travelling to Washington D.C. except for court proceedings.

NPR noted Chapman isn’t the only person implicated through dating apps. Apps such as Bumble, Match and Tinder have used images of people pictured at the U.S. Capitol during the riots to identify and suspend suspects’ accounts while its users helped identify people and pass along the evidence.

I was watching a video about this case. It was used to prove the point that the people involved in the riots did not expect to really be caught or suffer consequences from what they did. When you think about it, it makes sense.

They either a) thought they were doing the right thing and nothing would happen to them or b) they would 'win', their guy would remain in office and they would be praised for what they did.

The idea that they were wrong at any point did not enter their minds.

That says a lot about the lack of understanding in these people.

Maybe watching a summer of inner city rioting and looting with no consequences helped form that opinion . How many convictions handed down in Portland’s nightly party ?

If 1.2 Million patriot protestors had the intention of burning down congress over the election no one would have stopped them that day, not with the limited law enforcement and lack of leadership that they had shown.

I hope they perform a true investigation into that day instead of the farce that is going on right now with a narrative falling apart.

Only one person was shot and killed during the Jan. 6 Capitol riot: unarmed protester and Air Force veteran Ashli Babbitt, at the hands of a Capitol Police officer. Prosecutors announced they will not charge the officer, an African-American lieutenant on the force who has not been publicly identified.

Sinclair's Sunday TV Program, "Full Measure with Sharyl Attkisson," investigated the murky story of the fatal shooting in an interview with attorney Terrell Roberts, who represents Babbitt's husband, Aaron.

"She's not brandishing a weapon," said Roberts, analyzing the video showing Babbitt being shot by the Capitol Police officer. "So he's shooting an unarmed individual who is not assaulting him or threatening him. If this case happened out in Minneapolis or some other place, and it wasn't politically charged, I think that most people would see this as an obvious case of excessive force.".

"Ashli Babbitt is a part of that crowd," Roberts said. "Then you can see some individuals, they do get physical. They start to hit the door, break some of the windows. There are three officers present at that point ... And they move out of the way."

Roberts was asked why the police and SWAT team didn't protect the door to the Speaker's Lobby. "That's exactly what we're going to try to find out, why that was," he replied. "We'll find out. But it's clear that's what they're doing, they're actually abandoning the door ....More
