From the outside, looking in…without fully being immersed in the American system.

Trump is caucasian & male, and born into wealth. He didn’t choose any of these things, but they’re real. Did Trump ever need to get into politics? No, but he did. No doubt that he’s smart and driven both. Huge ego. Huge…and he wasn’t in politics (or ever serve in the military) before running for and becoming the president of the United States.

Harris is ambiguously ethnic in appearance and female. She didn’t choose these things, but they’re real. No doubt that she’s also smart and driven both. She chose to become a lawyer, & work in the political system, and use the hand she was dealt to her advantage right up to an including becoming vice president of the United States.

These are the players, & they are both qualified in their own ways. Trump already has been the President so he knows the role & the job that comes with it. Harris is nothing if not adaptable as show by life choices and the fact that she became the vice president to Biden.

Harris, if given time to prepare, can preform, as shown in her career as a lawyer, then prosecutor, etc…& Ultimately her career in politics. In the Biden cabinet, she knew her role, got into the office, & only became newsworthy when necessary but stayed in the background for the most part as Biden was front and centre until he couldn’t be.

Trump, off the cuff, seems to wing it and is use to throwing things at the wall to see what sticks, and getting his own way his entire life. He’s had money behind him his whole life which provided power, So this tactic has worked for him.

Trump was initially a Democrat…until he wasn’t. Harris is a Democrat and knows the political system as she came up through it.

Either way, regardless of who wins, life will go on and the American system has so many checks and balances in it that even though holding the role of potentially the most powerful person on the planet, the American presidency doesn’t have the same level of power (individual power) that other countries give their head of state.

On that note, who becomes president of the US does flavour its politics, & promises made on the way to obtaining that office influence the decision making process, but the office doesn’t allow for a dictatorship in the way America was founded and the checks and balances to prevent that from happening.

The prez is largely a figurehead. It is the puppeteers that we need to be concerned about. Both parties have been hard on Canadian industries at times with tariffs, but Democrats have been harder on softwood lumber over the years. It seems like the US Timber Barons have the ear of both parties.
