well looks like Vancouver canucks have their team set for the opening game in Calgary on Wednesday.

vey, biega, and corrado all have been put on waivers today, hoping they will clear and move on to
utica farm team.

this means that they have decided to reward the new kids, who all had excellent training camps, and
start them when the season starts on Wednesday.

they have earned the start, and heres wishing them all luck, along with the rest of the team, and
hoping they can play their way into staying after their 9 games.
ben hutton is 22 yrs old, came from college, doesn't need to have the 9 game test, he can be sent
down and up without waivers if need be.

markstrom has played very good hockey all thru training camp, and miller looks healthy and sharp.

the veterans can push themselves to the next level now that league games are starting, it is obvious
that they save a bit as they don't want to be injured before the season starts, so they protect
themselves, I understand that, it is smart.

Desjardin is behind the bench for good now, as he had a hip replacement done in the off season, and
has been recovering steadily, and didn't coach every game in training camp, but will now.

I wish them all a good season, just hoping like last year, that they make the playoffs in a very
very tough division, they will have to battle all season, it won't be easy.

GO CANUCKS GO

Zack Kassian has already screwed up in Montreal.

yeah I know, he has a broken foot and something else, his hand maybe, not sure, he
and 2 women were driving his vehicle, one of the women was driving, they crashed
into a pole somewhere.
6 oclock in the morning, and I'm sure they hadn't just got up and were going to
help out in the soup kitchen.
jim benning and trevor knew more about him than any of us, we were all waiting for
him to show some maturity, didn't happen.
too bad, as he has skills, but apparently only physically.
he has been placed in a rehab program.

maybe someday he will grow up.

also - raffi torres suspended 41 games for a hit to the head of another player, jeesh season hasn't
even started yet, couldn't he at least wait till league had started? just seems between himself being
injured and injuring others, he doesn't spend much time at all actually playing the game.

ok, canucks got that one out of the way, so good to win the first game of the year. team played well,
and miller was sharp.
the team is younger, faster and the new faces were needed, the sedins are obviously very happy with
the additions to the team, especially the youth, and players with more grit as well.
ben hutton and McCann both played well, looks like they have a self made future
top end defenceman in hutton, he came right out of college, this was his first
nhl game, so he is off to a good start, as well as McCann.

Calgary are in Vancouver on Saturday, and I'm sure Hartley will have his team ready to bounce back, and play a better game.
flames started well, looked like a close tough game for a while, but Calgary
managed to wilt somewhat as the game went on, and the sharp play of the canucks
caused some of that, as Calgary I'm sure was expecting to be more dominant
in the game, especially with Giordano back.

5-1 canucks over flames

glad to see the habs win their first game, and Chicago lost to rangers.

game almost over, san jose 5, l.a. 1

lucic was given a match play penalty, didn't see the play, sure
glad canucks didn't pick him up, but he only has a one year contract
with l.a., then he will be free agent again, I think he is an idiot,
on and off the ice.

Ottawa over buffalo, eichel got his first nhl goal - 3-1

tampa over philly , 3-2

Winnipeg over boston, 6-2, love it, Winnipeg are already fired up to play that exciting style again.

st. Louis over Edmonton - 3-1 - Edmonton look so much better this year, they lost but played well, and
Talbot looks real good. st. Louis is a big tough team, not easy to play against.

Nashville over Carolina - 2-1

Minnesota 5-4 over Colorado- final.
this has been Colorado's game all along
but Minnesota has other plans, not over yet.
Jerome iginla has a goal, 38 yrs old now, still going strong.
I think parise has a hat trick.
Minnesota turned it on big time in the 3rd, left Colorado in the dust.

dallas over pitts, 3-0 final, nemi in goal, played awesome.
I love the dallas team, and with Patrick sharp added, and a better defense core,
they could be a dangerous team this year. Jamie benn is a great player, played
against my grandson here on the island, he's from Victoria.

I heard all kinds of people talking about how Kessel was going to light the red light constantly in Pittsburgh, but I see that didn't work out last night.

I think he had his fair share of shots last night, the goalie came up big, and dallas played a
very good game, last year they were weak on defense, this year seems they are stronger on D,
and also have even stronger offense, they should do well.

if kessel finds chemistry with Crosby, he will score lots of goals, we'll see.

FWIW-3 on 3 is absolute crap a stupid gimmick the NHL pulled out of it's nether regions.

how can anything be more crappy than a shoot out. if one actually likes the shoot out, then they can't
possibly call 3 on 3 gimmicky, at least it is more like the team playing the game, a shoot out is
just one on one, nothing teamwork about that at all.

the point is, they have to get the games over as quickly as possible after regulation time, so 3 on 3 it
seems, will do that much better than shoot outs, which there were far too many last year.

I hope that at some point in the future the nhl and international hockey go back to the standard 6 on 6 (goalies included). :)
