After enduring nearly three weeks of Liberal filibustering (after Proroguing Parliament for several weeks before that), opposition MPs trying to acquire WE Charity speaking contracts involving Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his wife were shut down Monday when a Bloc Québécois MP voted against the initiative — by mistake. http://nationalpost.com/news/politi...tracts-fails-when-bloc-mp-votes-no-by-mistake

For weeks, the Liberal members of the committee tried to thwart the vote by filibustering, filling the time with lengthy and often irrelevant speeches, calling countless points of order and asking for more amendments on amendments than anyone would care to count. After all, there is a Pandemic & the Liberal Gov't can only focus on one thing at a time, and time is precious to the Liberals 'cuz...Covid.

The issue came to a head last week when the minority Liberals declared a Conservative proposal to create an “anti-corruption” committee to delve into the WE scandal a matter of confidence. Had the Liberals lost the vote, Canadians would be going to the polls. The NDP ultimately voted with the Liberals but promised to continue studying the WE Charity scandal in committees such as ethics.

So Monday, after a bit more filibustering and a few more amendments, the Conservative motion at the ethics committee was set to pass with the support from all opposition members, who outnumbered the Liberals. All was going as expected until the committee clerk called on Bloc Québécois MP Julie Vignola, who had replaced her colleague Marie-Hélène Gaudreau just a few minutes earlier.

After a few seconds of silence, Vignola unexpectedly said: “I am against the motion.” A visibly stunned NDP ethics critic Charlie Angus laughed incredulously as he cast the final vote for the motion. But it didn’t matter anymore, the nays (five) defeated the yays (four). In a scrum minutes after the vote, Bloc Québécois House Leader Alain Therrien admitted it had all been a mistake. Their vote had literally been lost in translation, and the party was scrambling to see if there was a way to change it.

In an interview, Angus said the Bloc’s vote felt like being “stabbed in the back.” He didn’t buy Therrien’s explanation that the error was the result of translation and technical issues, particularly because the party had “unusually” swapped out Gaudreau for Vignola just before the vote. “I can’t see that they would be that amateurish that on such an important vote, which held up the ethics committee since we returned in September., that they would send someone in and not tell her what the upcoming vote was. You know, you can’t run a ship like that. Bloc Leader Yves-François Blanchet knows what he’s doing,” Angus said.

The Bloc vehemently denied his allegations and said it was actively looking for ways to bring the motion back to the table. Angus said he is planning to bring a motion to the ethics committee next week to continue studying the WE Charity scandal. But because the committee just voted against requesting the speaking invoices, he said it’s unlikely those documents will ever make it to the committee. “Three weeks of work that kept us up into the wee hours of the morning went out the window. And so now we are not going to get those Trudeau documents,” Angus lamented.

The Conservatives preferred not to criticize the Bloc, instead turning their frustration toward the Liberals. “After weeks of stonewalling, the Liberals voted against transparency and blocked a parliamentary committee from receiving documents related to the WE scandal. It’s clear that Liberal MPs will do everything they can to hide the arrogance and entitlement of this prime minister,” Conservative ethics critic Michael Barrett wrote in a statement.

Conservatives promised Canadians that we would get answers on the WE scandal. We will keep this promise. I’ll leave it to the Bloc to explain why they didn’t vote for our motion at the ethics committee.” The federal finance committee is also debating resuming its investigation of the WE Charity scandal; it’s possible that opposition members on that committee succeed in unearthing the Trudeaus’ speaking fee invoices.

How is it relevant how some Canadians who can’t vote in a US election would have voted if they could have (but couldn’t) vote? Very close to 50% of American’s actually voted for that orange guy too. Will they have to have a stern talking to each other? What’s the point?
From Trump to Biden or Sanders or that Eco-Bartender (her name escapes me as it wasn’t relevant enough to remember) to Kanye West, etc....where all horrible choices to pick from. At least they didn’t have Hilary or that Darth Vader like dude (the hunting accident dude who worked behind Bush Jr) to make this current crop seem more palatable. They all suck, or sucked.

I believe to purpose of the post was that Canadian Conservatives, for the most part, are being presented with Trump wannabes like the federal and some provincial conservative leaders: Kenny for example and the Toole.

Canadian conservatives are being presented with American conservatives in order to attempt to demonize them....by yourself, and I believe that’s the purpose and the only purpose. It’s not like they are the same thing and if you need to compare them to American conservatives (PS compared to what we call conservatives in Canada the Democrats in the US are conservatives if you want to compare anything against anything else....) in the attempt to demonize them, isn’t that an admitted failure? Demonize them on their own merit or lack there of. US Democrats & Republicans are way right on the scale compared to anything available in Canada, aren’t they?

Kenney and O'Toole are not even close to the lunacy of Trump. Not even in the same universe.

Thread about the Trudeau govt's total lack of accountability and transparency. Cliffy cries about Trump in a pathetic attempt to deflect from the leftist shit show running Canada into the ground and making the country look more and more like a banana republic.

Thread about the Trudeau govt's total lack of accountability and transparency? You couldn't even make this shit up. I haven't been able to verify this beyond a few sites but: http://lakesuperiornews.com/News/legally-ordered-we-documents-destroyed Or http://thepostmillennial.com/five-years-worth-of-records-on-trudeaus-fees-destroyed

Five years' worth of documents ordered in WE probe on Trudeau's speaking fees destroyed??

The Parliamentary Ethics Committee requested records on all of Trudeau's speaking engagements since 2008 with Speakers' Spotlight Toronto. The committee has been seeking the records since July, but has been subject to filibusters by Liberal MPs to prevent their release.

The Prime Minister in October released his own records of speaking fees dating between 2006-2013, from which he collected over $1.3 million. Trudeau's speaking fees greatly increased after he became an MP in 2008, averaging $20,000 per engagement. Liberal Party House Leader Pablo Rodriguez described the move as "a demonstration of transparency," and Speakers' Spotlight has claimed that Trudeau's records are authentic.

Conservative MP Michael Barrett questioned how Speakers' Spotlight could confirm the authenticity of Trudeau's records after having destroyed their own copies of them. "Interestingly, this committee ordered those documents in the previous session,” Barrett said, further arguing that “Canadians need these answers."

Barrett noted that Speakers' Spotlight had previously asked for an extension to prepare the documents for the committee, a request which was granted. "The committee granted them all the time that was requested," Barrett said. "On the eve that those documents were to be released to the committee, and on the day that illegally redacted documents were released to the Finance Committee, Justin Trudeau prorogued parliament," he noted. "He shut down the House and locked out committees."

"Since that time, Speakers' Spotlight has communicated with the committee clerk once this session started, and even said the documents were ready to go."

The revelation is likely to further fuel accusations of corruption against the Liberal Party and Justin Trudeau. Opposition parties attempted to set up a committee to investigate corruption in government in response to the WE Charity scandal, but the motion was shot down after the Liberals threatened to dissolve government and call an election mid-pandemic if the motion was passed. According to the Liberal Party, such a motion would be treated as a non-confidence vote.

Records released by WE Charity reveal that the Trudeau family had already profited over $400,000 from speaking fees paid by their organization alone. The files released by Trudeau did not include any payments from WE Charity prior to 2013.

Whoopsie, a fleet of Libs tripped & 5,000+ Documents that they've been trying to hide for months fell into the shredder. It could happen....right?

I'm no fan of the Liberals or Trudeau but the demonizing of Trudeau and the Liberals are a stupid as demonizing the Conservatives. Politics is a game they play to keep stupid people fighting each other over nonsense, while the ruling elite go about robbing you blind. The only solution to this madness of a seesaw roller coaster ride is to abandon the party system altogether and for all representative to independents. Otherwise, the system will keep y'all fighting over table scraps and imaginary differences based on imaginary choices.

The Liberals in Canada under Trudeau demonize themselves with their Openness & Transparency like shown above, without having to make false analogies to US Republicans or Democrats.

Just this week we learned that documents related to payments to the Trudeau family were destroyed even though they were asked for by a Commons committee. Liberal MPs have blocked the release of all kinds of documents in the WE scandal and blocked committee attempts to study the issue, and now key evidence is destroyed. http://torontosun.com/opinion/columnists/lilley-liberal-mp-shows-same-questionable-ethics-as-trudeau

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/poli...ome-records-of-trudeau-family-events-related/ Opposition MPs are attempting to get more information about the ties between the Trudeau family and the WE Charity. Opposition parties say the documents are needed to verify statements from WE Charity and the Prime Minister’s Office about payments to members of the Trudeau family for their participation in events because both entities have previously provided incorrect information.

Speakers' Spotlight has represented Mr. Trudeau and his wife in the past, and still represents his mother and brother. On July 22, the ethics committee passed a motion requesting records of their speaking engagements dating back to Mr. Trudeau’s election as an MP in 2008. The documents were to be viewed only by the committee in camera.

The agency was given a week to produce the documents, but was given an extension until Aug. 19. However, the day before the records were due, Mr. Trudeau prorogued Parliament – voiding the document request. Since Parliament’s return in September, the opposition MPs on the ethics committee have tried to revive a modified version of that request and a broader study of the WE controversy and other ethical issues, but the Liberals have filibustered their attempts.

Pointing out that most of the available documents will cover a time when Mr. Trudeau was leader of the Liberal Party and therefore not doing publicly paid speaking events, he asked: “What is it that they are still really freaked out about? “The Liberals are still filibustering, so something’s up,” Mr. Angus said.

In its statement, Speakers' Spotlight called the comments “entirely false.” It said the documents were “purged in the normal course of business” in accordance with privacy and tax laws. But Mr. Perelmuter said some digital documents dating back further than seven years were found. The big question here would be, 'Where these documents "purged in the normal course of business” in accordance with privacy and tax laws after July 22nd of 2020 (?)' as that would stink like most of the Trudeau Liberals last 5yrs of Shenanigans.

OTTAWA -- The federal Conservatives are calling on a speaking agency through which WE Charity paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to members of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's family to hand over all documents about the arrangements.

The request is contained in a letter from Conservative ethics critic Michael Barrett to Speakers' Spotlight on Thursday and comes amid a brewing battle over the blacking out of thousands of other WE-related documents released by Trudeau last week.

In his letter to Speakers' Spotlight, Barrett notes the agency was first asked by the House of Commons ethics committee to produce the documents last month.

The initial deadline was July 29 for all records pertaining to speaking appearances by Trudeau, his wife Sophie Gregoire Trudeau, mother Margaret Trudeau and brother Alexandre Trudeau at different WE events dating back to October 2008.

The agency subsequently asked for an extension and the committee agreed to a new date of Aug. 19. Trudeau prorogued Parliament one day before that new deadline, ending the committee investigations that were underway into the WE controversy.

Why would this agency (Speakers' Spotlight) need a time extension to produce documents that where already destroyed (?) unless they weren't destroyed at that point?
