Are you still wondering why So many people support the #NoDAPL protectors? This spill is part of the reason. Imagine, if you will, tens of thousands of gallons of oil pouring into the river that provides the drinking water for over 10 million people. Would you want to drink it? or swim in it? or eat anything from it?
A North Dakota oil well owned by Oasis Petroleum Inc blew out over the weekend and has yet to be capped, leaking more than 67,000 gallons of crude so far and endangering a tributary of the Missouri River, according to Ernest Scheyder of Reuters. The cause of the blowout remains unknown, though state officials surmise it may have been caused by hydraulic fracturing of a nearby well in a situation referred to in the industry as “communication” between wells.
Thick gray smoke rose from the Helling Trust 11-15H well site on Monday afternoon as dozens of tractor-trailers hauled in vacuum trucks and other cleanup equipment. Oasis is trying to cap the well by pumping in a thick mixture of mud and clay, state officials said.
The blowout happened at 11 p.m. local time on Saturday. The company worked all weekend to regain control of the well, including flying in staff from its Houston headquarters, but so far efforts have been unsuccessful, according to state and local officials.
The well is about 15 miles south of White Earth, North Dakota, in Mountrail County.

Anonymous donor pays $2.5 million to release everyone arrested at the Dakota Access Pipeline
Family members of Caddo Nation chairwoman Tamara Francis-Fourkiller said an anonymous donor paid $2.5 million late Saturday afternoon to release everyone arrested on Thursday at the Dakota Access Pipeline site.
The project, which would transport crude oil from the Bakken oil field to a refinery near Chicago, first sparked demonstrations in April, when members of the Standing Rock Lakota and other Native American nations rode on horseback and established the Sacred Stone “spiritual camp”.
Thousands of activists have since traveled to Cannon Ball, North Dakota, including members of tribes from across the US, launching a huge and continuing protest that has become a rallying cry for indigenous rights, climate change activism and environmental conservation.
Leaders of the Standing Rock Sioux say the pipeline, a project of the Texas-based corporation Energy Transfer Partners, threatens the water supply and cultural heritage and would destroy sacred lands.
Chanting “Water is life!” Saturday, the Oklahoma demonstrators hope to rally people from around the country to stand with those in North Dakota and stop construction on the pipeline project.

Nothing, no one can live without it. Its so basic, not hard to understand. Our very existence as a planet is at stake. Standing Rock has awoken the world. This was prophesied to happen. I seen native women standing strong and sacrificing, elders, the youth, our brothers... I see messages of support and solidarity coming from hundreds of thousands of people, from every race, every place....from thousands of cities, from all of the US states, from almost every country in the world, from celebrities such as Stevie Wonder to Robert Redford, Jesse Jackson, Neil Young.... and many more, civil rights movement leaders of all kinds, the black lives matters movement and other movements, politicians such as Bernie Sanders, independent journalists and even some well known ones such as Amy Goodman, and even Lawrence O Donnell from MSNBC has been out there and shared his solidarity on TV.
Every indigenous nation and community including many from South American countries who are in the same struggle such as Sarayaku, from the communities in Peru, Bolivia, Brazil, Ecuador, Mexico, Canada and Australia, Asia, the middle East, India.. Even the Palestinians!!.... the United Nations has shown up for this...and the sacred animals showing up there too. The mother earth is speaking through all of us!
Who are the only ones who are silent????? The mainstream media, the presidential candidates and those in power, the corporations and their paid mercenaries, police and security. Even some police have resigned and some military people are Standing with Standing Rock. Thats it. The silence speaks volumes. Its a basic thing. Water. Life is based on it. Without it everyone and everything will die. Is that so hard for our ELECTED leaders to understand?
We all understand it. We all see Native people, who suffered the worst genocide in history at the hands of the governments of this country and the invasion 500 years ago, having to relive it all over again. Stoically, in prayer, without weapons, they stand for all of us, they sacrifice for all of us, they pray for all of us, they hold the wisdom of life, and they are being hurt for being true. It hurts everyone. When they were arrested and beat up, so was I.
When the police broke her arm, they broke my arm. When they were maced, shot at, hand cuffed and strip searched...dehumanized, I was dehumanized. I need water, I dont want oil in my water. I have been shot, beaten, threatened, jailed, every time they did that to a water defender....We are all one on this earth. The earth cries to see so much injustice, injustice for defending the most basic thing to our survival, water. The governments, oil and mining companies, corporations who profit off of taking resources from the earth and the people whose very lives depend on them, and those in power, appear to not have evolved in consciousness one inch.
They are afraid of losing. Afraid of losing money, power, their jobs....so they betray life, they destroy the planet, they destroy our most precious sustainer of life, water. How is it possible to be so ignorant, to have sold their collective souls to evil to the point where they would destroy the very lifeblood of this planet that sustains us,... and allow those who fight for life, who struggle for everything and everyone, to be treated as criminals?
Its all backwards, upside down. No one is silent anymore, no one who has not sold their soul....its time to look at who is being silent and hold their feet to the fire! Their silence speaks volumes. Anyone in power who has not taken a stand already has taken a stand by being silent on this. We know who you are. And not only will you be accountable to us, you will be accountable to life, to your very soul, to the very soul of this planet and the very God that created your soul, your human self which will face your soul in regret and shame. All the money in the world wont buy your spiritual freedom.
Get off the fence, take a stand..... those who pretend to be leaders. If you stand for life, say it. If you are silent in the face of Standing Rock, then we know you stand for death. We know you sold your soul. You will be held accountable, in this world and in the next.
