I question the benefits of the vegetarian diet and especially the vegan diet, knowing that it's supposedly beneficial to eat as wide a variety of food as possible and also knowing when you eliminate certain foods you are eliminating the benefits obtained from those foods. For instance some fish is an excellent source of selenium, known to guard against heart attack. I think the healthiest diet is one that includes everything albeit some in bigger quantities than others.

Ever heard the saying, "it will turn you yellow"?

A vegetarian diet is very unhealthy. After millions of years producing the nessasary genes to eat meat, insufficient amounts of protein from lack of eating meat that fights off bacteria and which helps your immune system will harm your body, and eventually make you ill.

not recommended.

Symptoms of a vegitarian diet include:

Case of congestive heart failure
Continual diarrhea or poorly formed stools
Some women's periods become quite erratic or may disappear
Some people experience insomnia or unrestful sleep
very little energy

I've seen people wind up in the Hospital put it that way.

Meat eaters will try anything to defend their bloodlust.

Yes, that's because we are so awesome.

Well, I have been pretty much vegetarian for almost 20 years, am not yellow, am quite healthy and know that the statement "a vegetarian diet is very unhealthy" is maybe the stupidest statement I have ever seen on these boards, and that is saying a LOT.
I have things to do, but I will start to break it down here and now then come back to finish the job.

First problem with the statement- what is a "vegetarian diet"?? I am fairly sure that, in the mind of anyone who would actually believe such a stupid blanket statement, there is some kind of "diet" that anyone who is vegetarian MUST follow- a "diet" that has no basis in reality and consists of only stupid things that will eventually make you die. That is the ONLY way that statement could possibly even make sense, let alone be true.

Anyone who thinks that being vegetarian is like being a scientologist is literally retarded.

So, tell me what this killer diet is while I go about my business, I will return and I sure hope I get the response I am hoping for. The only thing anyone could back that statement up with is blatant lies, so this should be fun.

Oh and I am in no wise implying any kind of personal attack, the statement is outrageously dumb and I will prove it if I have to, but I want to know what the "death diet" is that all vegetarians suffer from :D

I also believe that a very well thought out plan of eating
which includes many different types of foods is the
way to go, although when eating meat, keep the amounts
of fats low and try to eliminate gravy all together.
One of my daughters used to be a vegetarian for years, but
not any more, she agrees that some meats are needed, and
of course fish, to maintain good health.
I don't like fish much, but do eat some, but we do take a
very good omega 3 supplement from natural pharmacy, every
day.
I will eat fish now, and all through summer, as the fresh halibut is available,
and delicious, especially in fish and chips.

Halibut is not much of an option for us in the interior unless you are willing to pay $9 or $10 a lb. for it. Cod is good. Hey Talloola, gravy is essential. A couple of spoonfuls won't hurt you. Just don't put too much salt in it.

You obviously have very strong feelings about the subject and the intent of the post isn't to upset anyone. You just need to back off a little. Look at it this way for sake of argument that your veg diet is good because all the components of the veg diet are good. NOw just supplement it with a couple of eggs a week, a little skim milk every day, 3 oz. of red meat 3 times a week 3 oz. of chicken 3 times a week, 3 oz. of fish, once a week, 4 oz. of cheese a week - NOW you have all the advantages of your diet plus the advantages of the foods I mentioned.

That is an omnivore diet, not vegetarian. I think you are trying to say everyone should be an omnivore. Right? If you supplement a vegeterian diet with meat?

Meat eaters will try anything to defend their bloodlust.
BEAVER STEW RECIPE
2-3 lbs 1 inch cubes beaver
Bacon grease
2 cups flour
1 tsp salt
1 tsp pepper
2 medium onions
1/2 lb carrots
6 medium potatoes
2 stalks celery

Combine flour, salt and pepper in a closable bag or 2 quart closable plastic container and shake until mixed. Add beaver and shake until well coated.

Dice onions. Melt enough bacon grease in the bottom of a fry pan to sauté onions and beaver. Sauté onions and floured beaver in bacon grease, adding more grease as needed. Place sautéed cubes and onions in a 4 quart pot with enough water to cover. Add water to fry pan to remove the remainder of the bacon grease and flour. Add this pan gravy to your stew.

Slice carrots and dice celery. Add carrots and celery to your stew and simmer until beaver is somewhat tender (about 30 minutes). Taste broth and add salt or pepper to taste. Cut potatoes into 1 inch cubes and add enough water to just cover the meat and vegetables. Simmer until potatoes are done (about 30 minutes).

Nope. If one eats a lot of carrots, one might turn orange, though. And if one has liver problems, one may become yellowish (jaundiced). If you eat too much liver this can happen as the iron in the meat tends to screw up your liver.

wow I'd say you need to do something about that large gap between your ears, er I mean in your knowledge. There are such things as balanced diets that don't include meats. DUH

It's about like that here in the Kootenays, too. There are other fish products that are just as tasty and a whole lot less expensive.
