Instead of Blowing your stack, you tell me why the Swiss program wouldn't work.
Source up time, fundies...

Me a Fundie. Now that is laughable. Clearly you have not read any of my posts.
CM is correct- a problem with comprehension.

I'm mostly railing at the moronic suggestion on free supply.

I'm on the fence on legalizing it. Softer drugs are one thing but the heavier ones like H, Meth and crack make me think twice about it

Fair enough. In countries where they've gone legal and treat the addicts as sick instead of as criminal, the hard drugs don't seem to gain any more users or social acceptance than when they were illegal, otherwise I'd rail, loudly, against legalizing them. No one wants drugs spreading to their family, their loved ones, and I'm not different of course.

Holy cow Karrie... I honestly don't know how that happened.

Consider it changed along with my apologies

I was flipping through doing other things when I spotted it, but no apologies are needed as I've read back and it's obvious now you were still addressing hundbolt, not trying to misattribute. Mistakes happen.

Gvt supplied (free) H could easily work, but only on a kick-the-habit basis where the 'patient' is at a facility full time the H is administered in smaller and smaller doses until such time that the person is able to cope without massive withdrawls.

In my view, it's impossible to do this on an out-patient basis

It's what methadone clinics do, on an outpatient basis. I don't know about hard drug use like heroin, etc., but anyone I've ever known who was trying to kick a habit (smoking, alcohol, even a friend who kicked cocaine), needed something productive to do, to take their mind off the cravings. It seems like being locked in a hospital trying to wean would be way harder than working, spending time with family, etc.

I fully support the notion that addiction is a medical issue, actually, a large part of my logic rests on the notion that drugs like heroin and meth are so addictive that the only option for a full-time user to sustain the habit is criminal activities... It's a heinous cycle that demands that the physical addiction be the first, second and third priorities. Somewhere after that is need to source the funds for the product and way down the list is the actual well-being of the individual.

I can appreciate that there are varying degrees of the power of that addiction - seems to be different for everyone - but for those that are enslaved by the need, self-sustainability (in terms of what we would call a 'normal' life) are not to be realized until such time that they break free.

Regardless of how someone gets there, the damage that is done to the user is magnified by the damage to their family , friends and community

I do appreciate your understanding on this... I'm still scratching my head on how it might have happened

That's the other big piece of why I think society, on the whole, is best served by helping addicts rather than punishing them.

We'll just blame Andem, yeah?

I agree on the productivity issue - that reality had not entered my thoughts til you mentioned it.

My concern is that a program of 'free' heroin (or whatever) would simply act as a supplement to the base volume that someone might use.... I am assuming that any formal program wouldn't involve an unlimited or monitored supply

We'll just blame Andem, yeah?

Excellent suggestion!

Now, CM, you are starting to THINK through the Drug problem.

The Swiss determined decades ago that you can't CURE the addictive personality - you can keep it from CRIMINAL activity.

Time for you to holiday in Geneva. Take Goob with you- the old feller needs a change of scenery...

Been there twice, it's a wonderful country and from what I know of Goober, I'd travel with him anytime.

BTW - I'm probably younger than you.

You probably are...

I've watched the 'war on drugs' drama queen industry run my sweet America right off the rails in places.
The Swiss don't worry about 'why the bumblebee should not t fly', as Sigmund Freud said about his long term need for cocaine laced wine...

Great, let's legalize and make all heroin free as per hunbolt's glittering stroke of genius and watch the death rates explode.

yep; and -nope

You can't cure the addictive personality. You can control it instead of criminalising it.

The best way that I've heard it put was "be prepared for "unprecedented boredom and energy, coming down is like getting high".

Just answer my question. If your far right Bloggers can't help you- try logic.

You have a lot of questions but no tolerance for questions or disagreement.
And me a Fundie.
Yep- I am a true Fundamentalist.
I believe in equality
Freedom of religion- or no religion
I believe in the Courts regardless of whether I agree or disagree.
I am a Conservative when it comes to the fiscal side
A socialist when it comes to providing for the homeless, the poor and those that are rarely mentioned, the working poor.
I believe our tax system should increase the GST to 7 %
Funds spend on education, infrastructure and training programs for the young that are out of luck.
I also believe that the worker should have the ability to save in an RESP for upgrading skill sets.
Pass and the tax is reduced.
The claw back on Pensions should be lowered.
A Liberal on Human Rights.
Abortion should have some restrictions.

Yes I am a fundamentalist if the above is what you are referring to.
if not then tell me what your interpretation of a fundamentalist is?
I am eager to read your response.

Oh yes- If someone is a threat to my family and the police cannot do anything. I will.
I subscribe to an old philosophy, one that can be traced thru the millenniums - Do not Fuk with a Fuker.
