The USSR didn't constitute half of the world's land area. It constituted a sixth of the world's land area and was around the same size as the whole of North America, which consists of Greenland, Canada, USA, Mexico, Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, the Caribbean nations and some European countries' overseas territories, including the British Overseas Territories of Bermuda, Anguilla, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Montserrat and Turks and Caicos Islands. Even today, Russia is twice the size of Canada.
But even the Soviet Union was puny in size, and in population, compared to the British Empire. Whereas the USSR constituted a sixth of the world's landmass and had a peak population of 293 million, the British Empire, at its height in the 1920s, constituted a QUARTER of the world's landmass. At a peak size of 13,012,000 sq mi, the British Empire was 1.5 times bigger than the USSR and had a peak population of 460 million, which was a fifth of the world's population at the time.
Compared to the British Empire, the USSR was small fry.
The British Empire was, of course, far more benign than the Soviet Empire. It was the most benign empire in the history of the world and the greatest force for good in history. It is something I will always remain immensely proud - not just to spite liberal lefties like Tecumsehnones who is never right about anything - but also because it's something to be immensely proud of and something which Americans and Canadians should always remain grateful to for establishing their nations.
The US and Canada were the only entities that stood in the way of German being the official language in the UK.

German IS the official language in the UK. That's what English is, low German. The earliest language we know of (we don't have any examples of Pictish) is Brethonic or Brittanic, now known as Welsh.
They didnt really grow much. Their sphere of influence at the end of WW2 was no greater than what Russia had at the beginning of WW1. They also suffered more casualties than any other country in the war so I wouldnt exactly call that a major win. When your choices are living under Hitler or Stalin there isnt really any winning.
That is incorrect. Post WWII Russia defeated Ukraine, Crimea and Georgia and annexed them into the USSR.
They were already a part of the Soviet Union before the war and had been a part of Russia before the Soviet Union existed. Stalin was Georgian.

Your opinion is the classical USSR opinion. USSR did allmost genocides of human history. But they pretend to be harmless and innocent.
