Romney Calls for a Century of American Dominance
Romney's belligerent foreign policy speech struggled to suggest a difference between Bush, Obama, and himself

Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney made his first major foreign policy speech Friday at The Citadel, a military college in the important primary state of South Carolina. Full of pomp and belligerence, he called for a century of American dominance.
“This century must be an American century. In an American century, America has the strongest economy and the strongest military in the world,” Romney said. “God did not create this country to be a nation of followers. America is not destined to be one of several equally balanced global powers. America must lead the world, or someone else will.”

........How would that be different from what exists now??? That does NOT make him any different from any of the ones he wants to differentiate from. US dominance is not even a party issue. It is an american issue.that is executed by whatever party is in power.

Jesus, and you would label this man as "Belligerent"? Of course, the link you use shows where you get your news, and your opinions from.

Yep, just call him old World Dictator Mitt. He wants to put the military boot on the world, right? of course, if you had actually LISTENED TO OR READ HIS ENTIRE SPEECH, you would realize that this is not what he was advocating at all. he called for a century of American LEADERSHIP in the world, not anything military at all.

But you go right ahead, bury your head in your ass and keep that really ****ty outlook on life that you have honed.

I know exactly what he said. But you have to admit that US "leadership" is backed with military action or has been for the past 10 yrs. There is no indication that this is going to change anytime soon. If anything......the US "wars" , invasions, "interventions in progress now will only expand further.

Wait until things really heat up ......

I am sorry that you are in such a bad mood. (medic)

seems that "medic" forgot to take his/her medicine today. (or took too many nasty pills )
That's what you say about anybody that points out your errors and obsession.

slamming a link or a source that opposes your world view does not add to the conversation.- let alone one with civility
Why not, your buddy gopher does it all the time, and you don't complain about that, you support it.

Gopher is her pet IMO. He's her lap dog and pets just want to be loved by their owners. IMO of course.

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie will endorse Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney at an event today in New Hampshire, multiple sources tell CNN.

Romney is currently the front-runner in the race for the GOP presidential nomination and the Christie endorsement comes the same day as a closely-watched debate in New Hampshire.

Christie announced last week that he would not seek the GOP nomination, despite mounting pressure from supporters and major funders urging him to run.

Romney's stance isn't belligerent, but rather a little nationalistic, which most politicians are during an election: no one aiming for public office and worthy of it comes with " I want us to be the 2nd or 3rd best" at anything. A leader has to believe in what they are doing or they will not be effective at it. American's have done well compared to other countries: they have led the world in a number of categories and that drive to succeed is etched in their national identity, thus adding impetus to the concept of believing in your constituency.

All of the above being said, I don't know if Romney has much of a chance. He's not hardline enough to appeal to a lot of Republicans. He's not a Tea Party favorite. Where Chris Christie could have done a "Tony Soprano" and told dissenters to shut the hell up, Romney just doesn't have that demeanor. Now the fundamentalist Christians have the knives out for him with the whole "Mormans are a cult" thing. Sadly, in a country that used to pride itself on seperation of Church and State, religion is going to be a major issue.

I had to laugh at quote I saw over the weekend, attributed to someone on NPR :

"Republican candidates are like first wives. You love them until you get to know them".

None of the field looks like a realistic challenge to Obama, regardless of his unpopularity in some quarters...

Thank God.

The alternative hegemony in the last 65 years would have passed from the Soviet Union to China.

You should get down on your knees every night and thank God that the USA is the most powerful nation on earth, and that they inherited that position from Great Britain.

It has made us rich and free.

At the moment it looks like Romney is heads and shoulders ahead of the rest of the candidates, hope they
catch up somewhat.

romney has the gift of the gab, he loves himself, and he has the experience of the last campaign, BUT he has 'no heart' at all, it
is apparant to me, and others whom I have heard mention, that he has no human connection to the people, he
is a 'me me me' person, and will keep throwing his words out there hoping to fool the masses.

He wants to sit in that oval office for the staus it will give him, to look down on everyone else, and
spout, "see where I am", this office was made for me, I am the best, I love myself, "oops, I shouldn't
have said that aloud", "oh well, they are all so stupid they will never notice", "hope they delivered
all of my new suits", "I need a different one for every day of the year", I need a room for my hairdresser,
my clothes person", etc etc.

You have to understand that people like Ocean Breeze THINK that it would have been wonderful to have had the Soviet Union in control of the entire world.

They have no sense of what that would have actually meant, they are merely in favor of state control of virtually everything, while still allowing the people complete freedom of thought and action. Of course, this exists ONLY in fantasy land, but they do not appear to realize this simple fact.

Just like most anal and constricted conservatives......YOU HAVE NO CLUE as to how anyone else thinks, But you sure like to make your ASSUMPTIONS known.........whether they are Relavent or not to the topic.

You are so scared of what might have been that you allow your paranoia to extend to the present day fears. From all appearances.....americans are the most frightened , paranoid people on the planet. Yet they fail to understand how they foster their own predicaments.

IF things had turned out different........with another nation at the helm.......... that is how it would be and you would not know any different. as that is how you would have been brought up and those are the cultural, and other value systems you would be abiding by.

Just as if you had been born in a muslim world and was a practicing muslim......that would be your reality.

Where one is born is just crap shoot. who you are born to is the same.

Sure you can be grateful to live where you do....... but that is also all you know.

It is arrogant and presumptive to make comments about other posters , as your opinions and smart butt comments mean squat. and quckly filed under trash. the problem is that they detract from the topic.

from CNN breaking :

new national poll released today shows former House Speaker Newt Gingrich vaulting into a virtual tie with front-runner Mitt Romney over the last month in the Republican presidential race.

The same survey indicates businessman and former talk show host Herman Cain’s numbers falling during the same period. Cain has been mired in controversy for the past two weeks over allegations from four women that he sexually harassed them in the late 1990s them when he was head of the National Restaurant Association.

According the the CNN/ORC International poll, 24% of Republicans or GOP-leaning independents say Romney, the former Massachusetts governor who is making his second presidential run, is their most likely choice for the party’s nomination. While Romney’s numbers have remained fairly steady, Gingrich surged 14 percentage points in popularity, up to 22%, since October. That 2-point difference is well within the poll’s sampling error of plus or minus 4.5 percent.

At the same time, Cain has fallen 11 percentage points from 25% in October to 14% now. The poll was conducted from Friday through Sunday, well after the news of the Cain controversy broke.
