Do yuh think that if Canada would agree to immediately sign on to the "Missile Defense System" and/or to invest more into "NORAD" that the country could walk away unscathed?

Canada is upholding their end of NORAD they are not upholding their end in NATO and no, this is about imported metal into Canada and Mexico and resold under NAFTA. That's why after the first threat of steel tariffs Canada imposed restrictions and large tariffs on imported metals. The national security thing is the only way Trump can trigger the tariffs it's not because we are security concern, hammer out the NAFTA deal and it all goes away

What are we to do about the Dutch dumping sugar? Cancel visas? Boycott Dutch Elm Disease?

Hash?

JT should have made time to greet them in Ottawa when they came to visit now they are putting us into a sticky situation

Hi! Twin Moose

I see these tariffs as a form of control or like colonialism. It is not about money. Money is a Myth just like a religion is.

I grabbed a Cip from a Raph Nader Radio Show to give you a drift at what I kinda mean .....

It is not about money ..... America does not need money. They can create a trillion dollars in crisp new hundred dollar bills in a nano second. America printed about 60 trillion dollars to purchase the Toxic Assets in 2008 and you could buy every house in America for that amount of money.

The Americans must be demanding more than money ..... That is why I mention NORAD, Missile Defense, and the Arctic or the Great Lakes.?

You can't just print it. That is the biggest false conspiracy theory going.

There is liability attached. Sometimes land is held in escrow. Don't think so? Ask yourself "how did some Canadian National and some Provincial Parks end up UN Parks"?

Hi! Petros

The Federal Reserve can create money simply by using a computer keyboard and with somebody signing some Chit which states that the U.S. will promise to pay back (a thousand or more years from today) or honour the "Trillion Dollar Loan" which the Federal Reserve just created out of thin air.

Is that not the truth?

How's that strategy working out in Zimbabwe?

No that is not the truth. It can't be printed without liabilities.

How's that strategy working out in Zimbabwe?

The IMF won't touch Zimbabwe with a 10ft pole and that is the result of no liability.

Hi! Petros

Of course there is liabilities. The Federal Reserve and the Secretary of Commerce sign the liability note or chit and with terms of repayment nicely set out to the holder of the notes. The Commerce Department promises to pay or honour the notes at anytime in the future as agreed upon.

And when it comes to paying off the liability in full, the Federal Reserve will just use the Comuter Keyboard and print whatever is required.

Hi! Captain Morgan

Zimbabwe?

You can not compare any country with the U.S. because the U.S. Dollar is a Reserve Currency.

It's a reserve currency due to convenience, otherwise why would there be any other currencies at all?

In the end, what you have described above basically says that there is no such thing as national debt due to a nation's ability to 'just print more money'

... Doesn't make sense, does it?

Let's get this straight Canada isn't the true target and Trump has said just as much our trade with the states is pretty even. The true target is Mexico their trade imbalance is unreal and not really Mexico's fault outside of wage disparity and working conditions. The U.S. is after the manufacturing industry mostly American companies that moved to Mexico to take advantage of the low wages, low taxes, and inferior OH&S measures to save money on the backs of the U.S. citizens who are the largest economy and consumers in the world. He wants the U.S. to benefit from their own products being produced offshore and sold onshore through NAFTA agreements. Through this same loophole foreign goods are being shipped duty free into the U.S. that have large Tariffs on American goods being shipped to their shores to protect their industries.

Trump just wants Americans to benefit from their own goods being manufactured in the form of jobs and not just retail. He isn't being naïve and saying I want it all back in the USA, he is saying he wants their fair share back where it belongs. He also wants fair trade with the foreign Governments trying to dump their products into the U.S. while protecting their market with large tariffs against American goods.

Mexico embarrassed Canada into agreeing too, not to agree with NAFTA until both countries have achieved their goals, do you remember that famous article where Mexico puplicly admonished Canada for agreeing with the states over too low of wages in Mexico? So every tactic that the Trump team needs to use to keep Mexico at the trade talks he needs to impose on both countries.

So I don't see what any of this has to do with NORAD.

How utterly Trumpian of the CBSA .

Poor stupid LIE-berals! They are trying so very desperately to HIDE their screwed up world view!

But their thoughts are so utterly muddled and confused they cannot even win an argument with Trump on trade even though fully THIRTY FIVE Yankee states have Canada as their BIGGEST trading partner!

And fifteen Yankee states get ALL their electricity from the James Bay generating station!

And yet Our idiot Boy IS SEEN as the major obstacle! For another view- consider this:

Here is an article illustrating exactly how out of touch Our idiot Boy is with regard to trade and national security issues. With some comments of my own in brackets):

Chinese ambassador says Trudeau's 'progressive' agenda has no place in free trade pact

From Canadian Press. Published: April 10, 2018. Updated: April 10, 2018 4:26 PM EDT

Filed Under: Toronto SUN/ News/ Canada

OTTAWA — China’s ambassador says his country firmly rejects Canada’s attempts to entrench labour standards in a free trade pact.

Envoy Lu Shaye says Canada’s so-called progressive trade agenda has no place in a free trade agreement.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was unable to persuade China’s leaders to formally entrench labour, gender, environment and governance issues in the negotiating framework of free trade talks.

(It is silly enough for Our idiot Boy to talk progressive trade issues with our Yankee allies but it is quite utterly INSANE to talk progressive issues with China! China has a LONG HISTORY of using convicted criminals and political prisoners in dangerous and dirty jobs- working these social undesirables as slave labour! Our idiot Boy actually thought he could discuss women`s issues and the rights of people labouring in Chinese Galags with his Chinese pals! The Chinese must have wondered what Our idiot Boy was smoking? Or maybe they were just put off by his tactless stupidity and hunger for selfies?)

(After all, Pierre Trudeau heaped fawning praise on Chairman Mao for “his genius in rushing 30 million Chinese to the gallows”! And Our idiot Boy told us a couple of years back that he admires the Chinese Communist Party “for the way they get things done”! And idiot brother Sacha Trudope penned an homage to vile Cuban dictator Castro in which he claimed that “Castro ws the greatest South American leader of the twentieth century- and much superior to other leaders who had only been elected”!)

(And yet- there was Our idiot Boy whining about progressive social issues to Chinese leaders who consider the entire Trudeau clan to be “useful idiots”- to use the Lenin phrase! China will be polite enough to the Trudopes when it is convenient for China! But they have no desire to become props in the psycho drama being played out by a silver spoon socialist with “daddy issues” like Our idiot Boy!)

(Pierre Trudeau has clearly indoctrinated his boys fully into his poisoned mind set that includes such philosophical gems a these: “that the war against Nazi Germany was British imperialism” and that what Pierre referred to as “Cdn Imperialism” has to be destroyed- apparently Pierre was referring to what we now call “white privilege”! With such a twisted freak family back ground it is little wonder that Our idiot Boy thinks that Isis fighters returning to Canada “can become a powerful voice in our country”! And there is little surprise that Chinese leaders refused to be part of the Trudope progressive trade parade that seems motivated mainly by a hope that Our idiot Boy can find some international approval and support for the wsy he is deliberately screwing up NAFTA to spite the Yankees that he hates!)

Trudeau spent four days in China in December but left without a formal commitment to moving the free trade talks past the exploratory phase into formal negotiations.

Lu says Canada’s insistence on pushing labour standards in the NAFTA talks with Mexico to raise wages would only lead to the shuttering of Mexican auto plants and lost jobs.

(Yes- the Chinese see more clearly than Our idiot Boy! The jobs went to Mexico as a vital way to control rising union costs and make Yankee cars more affordable- in the face of formidable sales pressure from other auto makers around the world! A trade agreement that raised Mexican wages WOULD result in CLOSED Mexican car plants as higher prices killed car sales!)

Lu says starting a free trade negotiation with Canada would send a strong message to the world as it contends with the Trump administration’s “America First” protectionism.

(Our idiot Boy would be DELIGHTED to set up a free trade deal with China! The problem is that such a deal would GUT CDN SOVEREIGNTY! Chinese negotiators play HARD BALL! A free trade deal with China would make those current Trump demands on national security- which would BENEFIT CANADA AS WELL AS YANKEES- seem simple and mild compared to Chinese requirements for a deal! Our idiot Boy must have been badly disappointed at having his progressive trade shtick so bluntly rebuffed by the Chinese after having spent so many years as a dedicated, card carrying member of the silver spoon socialist “useful idiot” brigade!)

the softwood duty issue has been around for a hundred years. I am finding it difficult to put reimposing a duty (at the conclusion of a long negotiation)that has been on and off dozens of times in the same ball park as unilaterally altering the international trade of metals.

but then again I am not desperately trying to normalize the action of President poop for brains.

Canada could have made the deal Obama offered them but they decided they might get a better deal from Trump. Just another great decision there.

Yet another subject you know nothing about.Fact is the feds sold out BC's lumber industry.
ALthough in this case the cost simply got added on to the retail price which is what the steel industry should do.

Not a bad plan, I would say. We used to feed the British Empire and we have lost the ability to feed ourselves. We've paved over a lot of our best farm land. My grandfather was a fruit farmer who grew cherries, peachs, plums, pears, apples and grapes for processing, canning and fresh consumption. Canning and processing left Canada decades ago. Fresh consumption is pretty time-limited. That agricultural area is now either paved over or totally covered in vinyards for wine production (a noble pursuit, I will grant you but not a strategically necessary one). The world and this country would be a better place if we grew more of our own food, again.

Good post, best revenge is to stop eating cucumbers in January.

. He thinks he's going to punish the U.S., which is a futile prospect. Just as the spectacle of his limp wristed, lisping exclamations of 'outrage' will be considered comedic in the Trump administration.
.. and he's going to get his ass kicked.. which means we are going to get our ass kicked.

Canadians are the ones going to be punished, the Americans will pretty much just laugh at it.
Hopefully it gets us back to the talking table, it would be better if we cut our own deal with the US,

and let them go full bore on Mexico. No need for us to continue to get caught in the crossfire.

It's obvious the Dopey government is protecting someone, whoever is running the Chinese steel into Canada for resale to the US.
He is not protecting Canadian citizens, that's for sure. He is hanging us out to dry.

On the other hand, I can see why Tater is getting so aggressive.

His rule has been a running joke for years, culminating with the dancing in India, remember he went to get tariffs down,
and returned with tariffs going up ? Notice there has been no dancing since. This is a Big deal.

So, now he is stuck.

If he does nothing, critics will just come out that Dopey is still just not ready, he's a coward, wimp, pussy, etc.

He does something, there are enough useful idiot Liberal supporters who will shout the anti US stuff, and how proud they will
be to take one for Justine up their asses, and not his.
So the Liberals will screw all of us, not just themselves.

Hi! Captain Morgan

You said: ... Doesn't make sense, does it?

That is what I mean .... that money should be viewed or thought of in the same way that Christians believe in a Virgin Mary or that some pedophile hearing your confession is able to forgive sins.

Find me one single solitary person on the face of this earth who is able to completely and truthfully describe and account for Economics in any sane and understandable ways. In fact, the Federal Reserve is described as being "Coy" with policy details. The media suggests that is exactly how a God at the Federal Reserve should act or appear. Nothing heavy or overly transparent.

The "Economic System" itself is a "Myth" propagated by "Magicians" who afforded themselves the costs of a higher education and "Purchased" a PHD or an SH?T after their names. The same way that a Christian Preacher attends a religious institution and leaves with a "Certificate Of Christendom".

The 12 Federal Reserve members are no different than the myth of the 12 Apostles at the Last Supper.

In ancient times of kings and queens, they used to have court magicians and court jesters..
Nobody knew or understood the magic. And the magicians even dressed differently than others of the court. (As bankers do today with suits and ties.)

Economists perform the same tasks and for the same reason for which magicians played their essential roles during olden times with Kings and Queens.
