Can you imagine the New Yorkers trading in loonies? It might lighten everyone up a bit to think of money as loonies and twoonies.

It certainly looks like a playground spat where no one is willing to move the goal posts so everyone can win. At this time, no one can win and everyone is afraid. Maybe civil war is needed?

....Yes, everyone is afraid and many are getting very angry. ( and with all those guns floating around in the US....... well , you get the picture.......

bringing it down to the wire like this is plain irresponsible. and their credit rating should reflect that .

It seems to me that if the country is bankrupt, which it appears to be, then everyone has to give a little. I'm surprised there hasn't been any new political parties erupting in the mess advocating a socialist gov't ... if only until the country is back on it's feet.

Who are people going to shoot? Politicians?

Civil war I guess ... sheesh ... that's all we need! A bunch of crazy gun tooting angry loonies shooting anything that moves south of the border! I don't see that happening. It seems to me that everyone in the US is sitting back doing what they usually do and assuming that their "greatest nation in the world" is going to figure this all out while they do nothing. In the meantime, the global economy is going to come crashing down while politicians bicker like a bunch of school girls.

Isn't the only consequence that the US will default on it's loan and lose it's international credit rating? The people aren't going to go without their cheques, are they?

that is about it. What is also sad, is that by behaving this way they are not helping their image any either.

Bills need to be paid. Creditors always get paid first Gov employees come second.

The US image is down the tubes on an international level ... that's a done deal.

It's all those social security cheques and freebies that are on the line. I can see people getting rather uppity if they don't get their freebies ... so that's not advised. Surely Republicans can understand what's what with the consequences ... ???

They don't seem to notice. They are all still standing around with their peckers in their hands wondering what the fuss is all about.

That's the sad fact. Everyone in the world has been watching and waiting, assuming they'll get their act together ... but people are beginning to worry because this decision is seriously overdue.

From the way they act.......not sure they understand the meaning of "consequences "... let alone "cause and effect"

Next time the US pledges anything, the first question for the next 10 years should be: can they really afford it and if so, prove it.

Indeed. Or pay in cash up front. Their "pledges" are close to worthless.

(an interesting observation by one of the talking heads. The GOP is holding the country hostage. and that they have no choice but to raise the debt ceiling. )

They have to raise the debt ceiling ... that much is obvious to everyone. Instead of doing what has to be done, they're sitting around fighting about who is going to compromise. Don't they realize that everyone in the country is about to compromise? There is no sneaky easy way out of the mess ... no way for one to pull the wool over the other's eyes and get the better deal. It's a lose-lose situation and that's that. More should have been done to prevent this, it wasn't, they made their bed and now have to lie in it ... but they better get on with it because they're heading towards taking everyone down with them, and still no one in the US will be any better off.
