I am unaware of your source, but recent studies have shown that drivers show signs of serious impairment at levels far below .08. The .08 level is really quite arbitrary and to my knowledge was not based on any actual study of impairment. You might be comfortable with .08, but the person you run into at that level might have a different opinion.

Impaired Driving - Why You Should Never Drink and Drive

I note that in Alberta the strongest opposition to lowering the level below .08 did not come from any scientific body, but the restaurant and bar industry. To hell with the fact that drinking a driving kills and injures thousands of people a year so long as restaurants and bars can maintain their sales levels. Capitalism at its best.

Restaurants fear losses if drunk driving laws toughened - Calgary - CBC News

Same group in BC opposed it - The Libs almost pulled the law due to pressure from these groups

There is no point at which everyone suddenly becomes impaired to any extent. There are ranges. It isn't as black & white as you imply:
Alcohol and the Human Body

It's conceivable that on could drink a 40 pounder on a full belly and as long as they only drive for something like less than an hour, they won't be impaired.

I'm game to boycott all establishments that sell booze until they put public safety ahead of GREED! Anyone else?

Nope, sorry. The only establishments I frequent which sell booze would be the Beer Store, and the LCBO. Take it home and drink it, or go to a house party and cab home.

Don't be boycotting my sensible plan, man.

Young crazy guys and habitual alkies cause most of the problems.

Oh Daniel - What are your thoughts on this puppy.

PC leader outraged by Wildrose candidate's anti-gay blog - Edmonton - CBC News

Alberta Progressive Conservative Leader Alison Redford is blasting the rival Wildrose Party over an anti-gay blog posting by one of its candidates.

On his pastor's blog in June of last year, Allan Hunsperger and his wife warned against accepting gays and lesbians for who they are.

They wrote if they don't change they will "suffer the rest of eternity in the lake of fire" — a reference to hell.

The blog has since been taken down from the pastor's website.

Redford told reporters in Calgary Sunday that it blows her mind that a candidate running for office in this day and age could hold those kind of views.

She says that is the kind of social issue Albertans need to worry about if the Wildrose party wins the April 23 election.

Wildrose leader Danielle Smith says Hunsperger's views are from nearly a year ago and in keeping with his religious beliefs.

She says her party has made it clear that there will be no legislation enacted involving moral issues.

Hunsperger is running in the riding of Edmonton-South West.

How about those folks that are behind the wheel when they are over-tired?

Hell, I watched a guy reading the news paper while he was driving... Tell me which is worse?

Captain, that could be a ‘tough one’ for some people, but ifI’m tired and driving I force myself to pay more attention, and/or get off theroad for a break. The guy reading? He ‘ain’t going to get off the road’. I’veseen drivers with movies/etc playing on their dashboards before too.

They are equally stupid, you can't condone one crime by the stupidity of another, which is worse? Losing your left eye or losing your right eye?

Thank you, L Gilbert, I have major issueswith people who ‘over-drink-and drive’.

(And) There are so many variables to how ‘impaired’a person is or isn’t. Their weight, what they’ve eaten, what they’re drinking, how ‘fast’ they’re drinking, and on and on.

That is why I'm kind of in favour of zero tolerance (set it at 0.01 so the poor bugger whose had Xmas cake doesn't get nailed) that way you don't have to worry about variables...............they all become moot points and no one dies because of impairment!
