U.S. most charitable nation; oil-rich Muslim countries give almost nothing
The most likely reason for this is that zakat, the almsgiving that is obligatory for all Muslims, is generally not to be given to non-Muslims. Since there is nothing preventing this aid from being given to non-Muslims, they don't give it.

Nor does it include another $770 million in food aid that President Bush has asked Congress to provide as soon as possible.
On the other hand, Saudi Arabia, with oil revenues last year of $164 billion, does not even appear on the website donor list for 2008.

And while Canada, Australia, Western Europe and Japan have hastened to pony up an additional $260 million in aid since WFP’s latest appeal, the world organization told FOX News, the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), the international oil cartel, tossed in a grand total of $1.5 million in addition to the $50,000 it had previously donated.
The OPEC total amounts to roughly one minute and 10 seconds worth of the organization’s estimated $674 billion in annual oil revenues in 2007 — revenues that will be vastly exceeded in 2008 with the continuing spiral in world oil prices.
The only other major oil exporter who made the WFP list of 2008 donors was the United Arab Emirates, which kicked in $50,000. UAE oil revenues in 2007 were $63 billion.
By contrast, the poverty-stricken African republic of Burkina Faso is listed as donating more than $600,000, and Bangladesh, perennial home of many of the world’s hungriest people, is listed as donating nearly $5.8 million.

You are confusing fighting back with fundamentalism and you clearly do not know your history.
Saudi Arabia has been fundamentalist and they are an ally of the US. The US has not dropped any bombs on Saudi Arabia or killed their, women, elderly or children. There are fundamentalists (Christian) in the US. Do you actually believe they popped up because somebody bombed them?
Fundamentalism stems from a fear of modernity pure and simple. The reason that Iran (and a few other Islamic states) is Islamic in name only is because the general population do not share the leaders fear of modernity. The average Iranian is no more radical than I am. Hell, Jon Stewart has the most popular TV show in Iran right now. On the contrary, they would dearly love to move forward. That is the reasons for the uprisings in Egypt, Libya and elsewhere.
I guess they don't like Nigerian foreign policy either. Oh, and churches, especially those with Christians in them....

Muslims bid to turn Christian site into mosque
“Muslims went into the basilica to prepare the place for Friday prayers,” interior ministry spokesman Hichem Meddeb told AFP, adding that he was not able to confirm they were Salafists.
“Police dispersed them without any trouble, talks took place with the governor and they have been invited to make an official request to the faith ministry,” he said.
Nothing says tolerance like walking into a church and preparing for Friday prayers, eh?

Here's the difference between the LRA and other super-violent cults and Islam;
1. Cults that are maniacally violent and claim Christian faith are an anomaly.............Islam is a violent cult, so lunacy is normality in that faith.
2. The LRA may claim to be "Christian", but the mix of African religion and their focus on Old Testament philosophy belies that claim.
3. Christians follow the path of forgiveness and tolerance laid down in the New Testament. Whomever follows a radically different path, including genocide, mass murder, torture, enslavement of children as soldiers, and yet claims to be Christian....is a liar.
Islam demands jihad and Jew murder, so the claims that terrorists are fully Islamic are valid.

suspicion, we may find that the young people are prepared to defend their new
democratic ideal. If they can make it stick, the fundamentalist tide may begin to
diminish, over the next decade. Islam is fair game for a lot of criticism, but to call it a
cult is like saying the Baptists are a cult and that ain't so. The mainstream of Islam
is a bona fide religion, as is Judaism, or Christianity. In all these faiths there are of
course religious cults that do not represent the religion itself. Yes the fundamentalists
might well be a fascists, a political organization masking itself as a religious group.
This does not mean we should not encourage the mainstream, Muslims in developing
a true democratic state.
