The party leaders ambiguously said they would "focus on democracy, human rights, a free market, and leave religion out of it". You seem to put a lot of stock into what they say. When I see - no matter the minority - Christians sharing their faith in public, and atheist bus advertisements in Tunisia, then I will admit that the leaders of Tunisia meant it when they said they would "focus on democracy, human rights and a free market".
There are plenty of churches throughout Tunisia, that would qualify as sharing their faith in public?

They don't like our foreign policy, yet they don't know how to protest peacefully? They don't know how to lobby? They don't know how to write a letter? They don't know how to start an association? We're not blame for Islamic terrorism. Islamic militants are.
Violence solves everything. Gandhi was a pacifist tool that solved nothing and the Brit's loved him for his pacifism.
America was built on violence and genocide, without those traits they couldn't have developed as a nation and today couldn't continue functioning as a superpower.

No surprise to me that the bigots and brain dead would jump right in and bash Islam right from the get go. Just shows that their talk about needing Muslims to "show" rather than the "silence". Tunisia is doing just that, and still the morons jump right in and bash em any ways. Congratulations guys.

U.S. most charitable nation; oil-rich Muslim countries give almost nothing


The most likely reason for this is that zakat, the almsgiving that is obligatory for all Muslims, is generally not to be given to non-Muslims. Since there is nothing preventing this aid from being given to non-Muslims, they don't give it.

The OPEC total amounts to roughly one minute and 10 seconds worth of the organization’s estimated $674 billion in annual oil revenues in 2007 — revenues that will be vastly exceeded in 2008 with the continuing spiral in world oil prices.
The only other major oil exporter who made the WFP list of 2008 donors was the United Arab Emirates, which kicked in $50,000. UAE oil revenues in 2007 were $63 billion.
By contrast, the poverty-stricken African republic of Burkina Faso is listed as donating more than $600,000, and Bangladesh, perennial home of many of the world’s hungriest people, is listed as donating nearly $5.8 million.

You are confusing fighting back with fundamentalism and you clearly do not know your history.

Saudi Arabia has been fundamentalist and they are an ally of the US. The US has not dropped any bombs on Saudi Arabia or killed their, women, elderly or children. There are fundamentalists (Christian) in the US. Do you actually believe they popped up because somebody bombed them?

Fundamentalism stems from a fear of modernity pure and simple. The reason that Iran (and a few other Islamic states) is Islamic in name only is because the general population do not share the leaders fear of modernity. The average Iranian is no more radical than I am. Hell, Jon Stewart has the most popular TV show in Iran right now. On the contrary, they would dearly love to move forward. That is the reasons for the uprisings in Egypt, Libya and elsewhere.

I visited JIHADWATCH and I conclude that it is a hate site and that if anybody has bought into any lies it would be you. There is no doubt that radical Islam is a threat to western interests in the Middle East, but it is the western foreign policy for the past 75 years or more that is to blame for that. There would be no Islamic radical fundamentalists if it wasn't for the west's interference in their internal affairs.

I guess they don't like Nigerian foreign policy either. Oh, and churches, especially those with Christians in them....

“Muslims went into the basilica to prepare the place for Friday prayers,” interior ministry spokesman Hichem Meddeb told AFP, adding that he was not able to confirm they were Salafists.
“Police dispersed them without any trouble, talks took place with the governor and they have been invited to make an official request to the faith ministry,” he said.


Nothing says tolerance like walking into a church and preparing for Friday prayers, eh?

The LRA was formed in 1987 and until about 2007 it was engaged in an armed rebellion against the Ugandan government. It is led by Joseph Kony, who proclaims himself the "spokesperson" of God and a spirit medium, primarily of the Holy Spirit, which the group believes can represent itself in many manifestations.
The group is based on a number of different beliefs including local religious rituals, mysticism, traditional religion, Acholi nationalism and Christianity[5][6][7][8][9][10][11][12][13][14] and claims to be establishing a theocratic state based on the Ten Commandments and local Acholi tradition.[15][16][17] The LRA is accused of widespread human rights violations, including murder, abduction, mutilation, sexual enslavement of women and children and forcing children to participate in hostilities.[18]

Cliffy despite the twisting of history America never was a Christian Country it was
influenced by Christianity but never a Christian Country. There is a lot to sift through
here though. For example America has been playing off the participants in the
Middle East for decades, they learned from the British, the French and the Germans,
not to mention the Dutch. In the 19Th century, these imperialist nations assisted in
the corruption and violence of today.
I think if we keep our cooled heads and encourage Tunisia instead of viewing it with
suspicion, we may find that the young people are prepared to defend their new
democratic ideal. If they can make it stick, the fundamentalist tide may begin to
diminish, over the next decade. Islam is fair game for a lot of criticism, but to call it a
cult is like saying the Baptists are a cult and that ain't so. The mainstream of Islam
is a bona fide religion, as is Judaism, or Christianity. In all these faiths there are of
course religious cults that do not represent the religion itself. Yes the fundamentalists
might well be a fascists, a political organization masking itself as a religious group.
This does not mean we should not encourage the mainstream, Muslims in developing
a true democratic state.
