Alexander Vindman, a key figure in the Trump impeachment, says in op-ed that America is reminiscent of an ‘authoritarian regime’

He is right, of course. Everyone is o busy fighting with each other...........that they can't see what i happening under their noses. The Tyrant in the oval office has done a lot of serous damage to the republic........and their so called "democracy. He is far from done ... He is determined to leave a significant "mark" of his time as POTUS. He could careless if it is a positive one.
what is concerning is that so many seem to support the authoritarianism that is already taking place. Are they so tired of democracy that they would willingly allow authoritarianism to creep in via a tyrant like Trump.??

a lot of truth in that. Not sure the population is able to SEE the USA with the clarity necessary.

Trump's job is to dismantle the American Empire and he has done a magnificent job. The US of Aggression is in dire need of reinventing itself. It cannot go back to what it used to be: a global bully and resource pirate. The rest of the world will rejoice at the destruction of the empire and hope that you guys do a better job of reinventing yourselves into a more compassionate and caring society.

Some do, some don't. It is all in the percentages. And WTF knows what goes on in those heads.
They have been conditioned into believing certain things about themselves.......... with a strong element of patriotism instilled along the way. as a rule it is frowned upon to criticize their POTUS. (unpatriotic ) Die hard flag wavers.

I recall my aunt (S Carolina) saying " we must support our president"........ the implication being almost blindly. It is an interesting mindset........that is not conducive to critical thinking. It would not take that much to slide into a more authoritarian state. As long as they are limited by their beliefs, they are not a free society.

The US is the most free society on the planet.

The Trump Administration is making sure to sabotage the United States Postal Service, so that mail-in voting will be a huge problem:

https://www.cnn.com/2020/07/31/politics/usps-mail-in-voting-2020-election/index.html

The man Trump hired as new Postmaster General, is a man by the name of Louis DeJoy. DeJoy was CEO of XPO Logistics, which has a terrible record of it's treatment of employees. Since talking over as Postmaster General, the mail system in the US has virtually collapsed, and it is common to hear stories of mail not being delivered, or being delivered up to a month too late.

It should be noted that DeJoy has contributed millions to the Trump Campaign, and the Republican party. That in itself, would usually be a big red-flag for conflict of interest, but it has been part for the course in the Trump Administration.

So now Trump has an excuse, if he loses the election. He can claim mail-in ballots were not delivered in time, if the USPS (which is downsizing), closes remote Midwestern US postal locations, which are Trump strongholds. Even worse, DeJoy could close down the profitable USPS locations in densely populated blue cities.
This might explain his certainty/prediction that the elections will be rigged and a disaster. He is a danger to what is left of the USA "democracy."He is setting things up for that kind of situation. He is creating the chaos that wold work for him. He can them declare a national emergency and stay in office. He could care less about the country, a viable election or the constitution. It still is about HIM and his lust for continued power. He has tasted real power and wants to keep it. He is yet to state any ideas or plans for the nation, or how he will solve the current multi problems...........he just glosses over them with silly generalities. and false optimism and phony platitudes.

HE is tampering with his own election system. He does not need any outside help.

It doesnt work? Yes or no.

There is one thing that will ensure a Trump win. Trudeau did it, Trump already eased laws and research on it.

It fits the "defund mantra".

Legalized weed.

To the bolded part, this always had me wonder... if Americans are supposed to always support the president as so many say, why do those same people then have weapons to throw down the government of that president they have to support if the 'need' arises?

Isn't that a case of serious mixed messaging?
