He's the President of the United States. He's allowed to give advice to people who report to him. There's nothing in these leaked reports (of pressuring Comey to drop the Flynn investigation) that indicate the context or rationale for Trump's 'advice'. This did not involve an order to end the investigation as Nixon did prior to the his 'Saturday Night Massacre'. That was given to an independent Special Prosecuter and not a member of the Executive Administration as was Comey.
It could be Trump felt the entire thing amounted to a political witchhunt, and had devolved into mob justice by a rampant Liberal media and political establishment. Those are perfectly legitimate concerns. He would be acting in the best interests of the country, not in the 'obstruction' of justice, since there was absolutely NO crime perpetrated by any member of his campaign or administration to 'cover up'.
Frankly the Dems and press have gone off the deep end with this; a pack of headhunters with a noose. They've lost their objectivity and credibility in their zeal to foment a putsch against Trump and in support of the failed ideological paradigm of the last 50 years. But that has collapsed and left them without a franchise and reeling in frustration.
