She's clever enough to realize that marching in lock-step with der leader has most certainly benefited her career so far, JLM. She also shares - no embraces - the far left agenda being put forward by the slimy ethically challenged pm wherein tax paying Canadians will be further burdened by policies that will benefit only those who fall within their ideologically based guidelines.

She benefits greatly from her media contacts by planting flattering articles and squashing ones that are demeaning to her

What's the PC term for a female "fall guy"?

She wont be the first or last to claim she "broke a glass ceiling" thanks to Justin.

Becareful Freeland, the last one got her throat cut on the glass and hasn't poked her head through since.

Chrystia Freeland is already swung in to be the newest Finance Minister, in her spare time, while still the deputy PM & doing the bulk of the workload for Trudeau. That took about 12 hours or less to dump that portfolio into her Inbox? Most of that time was overnight too. Good thing she didn’t have anything else on her plate.

Freelands wants to be the party leader, Pete - all these portfolio's have done wonders for her resume. Thing is by clinging to the skirt tails of der leader she'll end being dragged through the slime along with him.

Katie Telford's husband pressed Trudeau government to make changes to wage subsidy law to benefit his employer: sources

OTTAWA – Robert Silver, husband of the prime minister’s chief of staff, repeatedly pushed the Trudeau government to make changes to the federal wage subsidy in a failed bid to make his new employer eligible for the multi-billion dollar aid program.

According to two sources with knowledge of the situation, Silver, senior vice-president, strategy, policy, risk at private mortgage company MCAP, approached ex-Finance Minister Bill Morneau’s office in April asking for legislative changes to the Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy (CEWS). Vice News first reported the story on Friday.

In his dealings with Morneau’s office, Silver, who is not a registered lobbyist and whose wife Katie Telford has worked as Trudeau’s chief of staff since 2015, even went so far as to suggest a specific wording for the legislative change he was seeking, according to one source.

The legislative amendment as suggested would have benefited very few organizations other than MCAP, both sources confirmed.

The same sources said the request was quickly turned down by Morneau’s office. But the ex-finance minister’s staff was “very uncomfortable” with Silver’s contacts, knowing full well that he is Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s chief of staff’s husband.

In a statement, a spokesman for MCAP did not deny any of the details but insisted any interactions were done with respect to federal lobbying laws.

“MCAP, through counsel, consulted with Canada’s Lobbying Commissioner in January to establish proper screens and protocols around any engagement with government. MCAP and its employees and officers have strictly complied with the letter and spirit of this guidance and all applicable laws,” an MCAP spokesperson responded by email.

The Prime Minister’s Office said Telford was not involved with any discussions involving MCAP.

PMO, Morneau won't say if Katie Telford's husband communicated with them since joining private mortgage company

Despite Silver’s failed bid, his company did receive an $86 million contract to manage the government’s commercial rent assistance program for small businesses only a few weeks later. The government said that neither Silver nor Telford had anything to do with that decision.

Since 2004, MCAP is in a limited liability partnership with the Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec (CDPQ), the province’s pension fund manager. According to CEWS legislation tabled by the government in April, organizations that are in a partnership with another that is exempt from paying income taxes (like the CDPQ) are not eligible for the wage subsidy.

Sources who were granted anonymity so as to speak freely tell National Post that Silver contacted Morneau’s Director of Policy Tyler Meredith and Chief of Staff Elder Marques multiple times in April to express his frustration about MCAP’s ineligibility for CEWS.

Silver’s main complaint was that it would put his employer at a disadvantage with other private mortgage companies who would be eligible for the government aid.

But Silver did not digest the finance minister’s office’s refusal to adapt CEWS. Sources say he wrote a “rude” and “entitled” email to Meredith expressing his frustration at the decision.......More

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but Kim Campbell broke the ceiling almost 30 years ago.

If she doesn't know recent history, she's useless into the future.

But Freeland is blind to the biggest problem we have!

Given the unease that many parents feel ahead of back to school, it was hardly bad politics for the prime minister to announce that his government was going to make a sizeable contribution toward the cause of school safety.

So, not surprisingly, there was little angry reaction to Ottawa’s announcement this past week that the provinces would be receiving $2 billion to help facilitate a safe return to school. Even though the premiers hadn’t asked for this funding, most sounded appreciative of the gesture.

However, there are a number of legitimate questions about this announcement specifically and the broader issue of Justin Trudeau’s tendency to bypass Parliament when it comes to such matters.

As for the school funding announcement, it comes just mere days before in-class learning it set to resume across the country. If the government was sincere about addressing the issue of school safety, why didn’t it reach out to the provinces weeks or even months ago to talk about what sort of assistance might be needed and how best to provide it? The prime minister is surely aware of the back-to-school planning that has been ongoing for weeks now across the country.

Furthermore, only half of this money is supposed to be allocated in the short term (when the first instalment is due to arrive is unclear). Apparently the government is going to review how it was spent before sending out the second half sometime later this year or early next year.

But why now? The timing might have more to do with the upcoming confidence vote and the possibility of a fall election. It certainly had the feel of a campaign-style announcement. It also comes at a time when the House of Commons isn’t even sitting, thanks to the prime minister’s decision to prorogue Parliament.

In fact, this isn’t even the first — or the biggest — spending announcement we’ve had since prorogation was announced.

Just two days after Parliament was shut down, Trudeau announced a $37-billion COVID-19 aid package, which included an extension of CERB, expansion of EI and additional sick leave benefits.

Strangely, Trudeau asserted that it would be “irresponsible” to bypass Parliament on this plan, but couldn’t provide an explanation for why he announced it two days after announcing prorogation.

There’s no reason why these plans couldn’t be presented to the House for debate and votes. Government-by-press conference is a slap in the face of Parliamentary democracy, especially considering that we have a minority government to begin with.

So rather than allow MPs to have some direct input on the school funding announcement or the plans for CERB and EI, the government is simply going to dare the opposition to vote against the throne speech and try and sell any votes of non-confidence as opposition to those announcements. It’s rather cynical politics at a time when some genuine cooperation and collaboration would be helpful.

Just as Canadians would probably agree that additional supports for a safe return to school might be necessary, Canadians most likely recognize that many across the country are in a precarious situation still and that there remains a need for programs like CERB. Addressing these issues doesn’t have to mean bypassing Parliament. Only the most hardened Liberal partisans would see the other parties as obstacles to helping Canadians.

But we now have an obstacle to getting this assistance to Canadians: the uncertainly of the throne speech and the subsequent confidence vote. If the government falls, what does that mean for these changes to CERB and EI? What does it mean for the financial support for schools?

The government has tried to reassure everyone that this support will be forthcoming, but it would be a lot more believable if these matters were being debated and voted on prior to a throne speech and confidence vote. If the government falls, all bets are off – Liberal assurances aside.

The frustrating thing is that it didn’t have to be this way. That’s on the Liberals.

Nah, she isn't blind to der leader's misconduct and inability to govern democratically - that is with Parliament open and working. She has greater ambitions, JLM and if sucking up to JT is what it takes she is all in.

Yes, she will work herself into a position where she will get very little respect. What's she going to do when her hero is gone?

I’ve been tied up for the last couple days and probably for the next couple days.... But I’m checking in while I’m having coffee and coming to life before work this morning... And I don’t see anything here about youth minister Chagger being caught in her lies to the finance committee or reference to the press conference on Parliament Hill by Charlie Angus?? Chagger apparently has lied (at this point they’re still calling it misled) two different committees with respect to WE, & and this would have been exposed in the documents released by the liberal party if they weren’t so heavily redacted...but the newspaper “The Star” manage to come up with a set of documents somewhere without being redacted which is exposing the truth.
Chagger, being the first person to testify in front of the finance committee regarding WE charity & WE foundation, apparently like 23 times in an hour that has been exposed so far in an effort to mislead the committee and to mislead Canadians. Connecting the dots shows that if she’s lying then Kyle and Craig Keilburger Would also have been lying. This definitely shows a different light on these two not wanting to provide documentation that they’ve already promised a provide to the same finance committee.
On that note with some of the truth coming to light so far even with 5000 pages of heavily redacted documents, Who else that has testified in front of the finance committee has lied their arses off? Both Justin Trudeau and Bill Morneau (& Katie Telford) are involved in this goat rodeo up to their eyebrows, and as the truth starts coming out in the media this may shine a very different light on Bill Morneau “stepping down” recently, etc....
