I expect a fight to break out at a hockey game but I see it happens in baseball too.

It all started when Josh Donaldson got hit by a pitch from Chase Headley - the 8th time he's been hit this year. Then JA Happ hit Headley on the bum with a pitch - that was settled with a wee skirmish. Then Severino who was in for Headley after he was ejected after the first go-to, went after Smokie missed him the first time and got him the second time. That erupted into a bench-emptying free-for-all that is just settling down as I write.

So two pitcher's are gone. The manager is gone. The guy standing in for the manager is gone - all on the Yankee's team. Haven't heard of any Jays being ejected yet. There were some pretty good punches thrown and there will be bruises tomorrow for sure. Sheesh

Good one, Spam. That little skirmish cost the Jays. Joaquin Benoit will be out for the foreseeable future after injuring his foot. Devon Travis was a scratch yesterday with a sore shoulder also due to the brawl. Still, the Jays with the help of a good outing by Sanchez managed to beat the Orioles maintaining their wild card spot ...........for now. We'll see what happens when they play again today.

B.C. teen puts heart into Jays toss

By Joe Warmington, Toronto Sun
First posted: Tuesday, September 27, 2016 09:20 PM EDT | Updated: Tuesday, September 27, 2016 09:22 PM EDT
TORONTO - Like the Toronto Blue Jays this season, don’t talk to Jackson Goodman about quitting on anything.
It wasn’t long ago the Ladner, B.C., teenager suffered a heart attack and died.
“He was dead for three minutes,” recalled his mom, Cathie Friebel.
Just a minor setback. He’s not easy to kill.
Enter a little help from doctors who brought him back to life and there has been no stopping him since.
Now 17, he finished high school and is studying business at college. On Tuesday night, he was on the mound at the Rogers Centre — wearing a Blue Jays sweater — where he threw a perfect strike to Jays catcher Josh Thole.
“I thought about throwing a knuckleball,” he teased.
He has certainly thrown his share of those at his doctors. Heart disease has not been able to get the better of him. He’s more than alive these days.
“This was definitely the highlight of my life,” said a thrilled Jackson, who was given the honour of throwing out the opening pitch for the big game against the Baltimore Orioles as part of efforts by the Children’s Wish Foundation.
It was a moment he had to share with his mom and stepfather, as well as his dad, Bruce.
They’ve shed a lot of tears over young Jackson’s heart issues, but on Tuesday, they were tears of joy.
Jackson said he expects there is no die in the Jays, either. He helped inspire them on this night.
The whole evening seemed special. From Jennifer Strype doing a terrific job on the anthems to Josh Donaldson’s 37th homer, there was a buzz. A playoff buzz to be precise.
You had Team Canada battling Team Europe down the street at the Air Canada Centre in the World Cup finals and the Jays getting ready for what should be at least a wild-card spot in Major League Baseball’s playoffs.
Everybody is excited.
“This is a dream job,” said Nnenna Amaechi, who was working as an usher in the Rogers Centre’s Section 527.
The open roof provided quite a view, which included the Goodyear blimp and the CN Tower.
A beautiful fall evening with a buzz in the air.
Nnenna works for Postmedia during the day and comes down to the Rogers Centre at night.
“I would be watching these games anyway,” she said. “So to be working here with these great fans — it just doesn’t get any better. “
Sure there’s crime in the city and heavy-duty politics. But there are many special things happening right now, too.
And many celebrating life.
Jackson Goodman, and his family, certainly were doing that.

Toronto has already won a world championship it's time for the Cubbies damnit. :).

You guys won it in 1908. Stop complaining.

Cost them Benoit who looks to be out the season now. Without the 7th inning guy I don't expect them to go far.

Figure they need 3 more wins to clinch wildcard spot. If 2 are against Baltimore, it will be home field for wildcard game.

Division title would require Sox to lose 2 more to Yankees, Jays to sweep Baltimore, and Jays then would need to sweep Sox at Fenway. Then they would have tiebreaker game.

Go Yankees!...........now that we don't have to play them again ..........the bums. Well they got the first game out of the way, we'll see what they do today against the Red Birds, IRBS. I really don't think they have a chance of sweeping the Sox in their own park but stranger things have happened.

They also had Devon Travis out yesterday as a result of a sore shoulder that was due to the Basebrawl as Spammie called it. What a bunch of dolts, really. You'd think they could figure out a better way of settling things then trying to punch each other out especially with their season on the line.

BTW, my sister is over the moon now that the Indians are in the play-offs. She will be going to Cleveland for a couple of their games, lucky lady.

Looks like Jays will clinch division for Boston again. Osuna just gave up 2 run HR in top of 9th. Now trailing 3-2. 2nd or 3rd poor save performance in a row.

And they gave it to them. Yankees beat the Red Sox.

Jason Grilli is having a bad patch it seems. Cecil is looking better. I never used to worry when Roberto came to the mound, now I do. Lariano had a good day so that's a positive but they just can't seem to muster the runs to support their pitcher. Two or three runs just aren't going to do it.

Particularly when their bullpen seems to be faltering again. Like April all over again.

With all this political junk goin on it's good to watch a baseball game. Hopefully they won't adopt a cause.

I played Pony League ball. Happiest times of my life.:).

Too much celebrating for a minor accomplishment. Save the craziness for winning the world series.

yes, I agree, they haven't won anything worth a big celebration, take a page from nhl hockey, they
won't even tough the conference trophy, they are cool, just move on to the next level of playoffs.

dressing up in raincoats, putting on goggles, then squirting champaigne all over the place looks so
infantile, I had to change the channel immediately, please grow up and be men, not teenagers.

good game for sanchez today.

Oh for pete's sake you two, let them have their fun........blow off some steam and stress. All the other teams do the same thing so why not the Jays, eh. :p

So this could be it or it could be the start to the post-season for the Blue Birds as they face the Red Birds in the Jay's first ever wild card game. I am not thrilled to hear that Marcus is pitching today and hope he has a very short leash. Also don't want to see a single error by the outfield - not a single one, guys. Let's see lots of small ball............the point being to get on base. Forget the heroics when you are bat and just try to make a connection that will advance you or runner(s) all ready on base.

Got your instructions...............now let's play some great ball. GO JAYS GO:canada:

I heard a journslist from Baltimore tslikg to a Toronto CBC radio announcer and they agreed that both teams have big hitters. The problem is that both teams have big hitters who swing at any old junk and hence, they deserve each other in a wild card game!

From what I saw this season when the Jays and Orioles played each other, I'd say that those two got it right.

Joey Bats gets us on the board in the top of the 2nd with a beaut of a long ball in the seats.

The Red Birds manager reminds me a lot of the actor Philip Seymour Hoffman.

My faith in Marcus is quickly being restored. He's had 3 really good innings - not allowed a single base hit and two strike-outs so far. He's got control of his slider and looks strong and steady on the mound. Now the batters just have to give him some support. Just.........get..........on base...........guys.

Trouble is ...............the Orioles pitcher Trumble...Trimble.......is just that good too.

Well...........I might have spoken too soon......Marcus gave up a base hit then a homer to put the Red Birds ahead 2 - 1

Marcus came right back top of the 5th with a strike out on Davis......now he just has two more outs and he'll nail the inning.

Got his next out on a fabulous catch and throw by Tulo

He just gave up another base hit with 2 away

Biagini is warming up in the bullpen

Oriole runner just stole 2nd

3 and 2...............and he strikes him out on a low ball ............okay Marcus and thank you Tulo

Tulo flies out to center.......1 away

Michael Saunders gets one down for a ground-rule double!!!

Kevin Pillar gets one down for a double but Michael only gets to 3rd on the play - 1 away

Zeke takes first base and scores Michael and the game is tied............what did I say guys........small ball and you are on your way

The Red Birds are tossing out their pitcher in the 5th

No more runs for the Jays in the 5th

Marcus working in the top of the 6th gets 2 out then gives up a base hit.........the Jay's pitching coach is coming out to the mound and their having a scrum........well that worked as he gets the next out stranding a runner on base

Josh strikes out

Eddy out at first

Joey strikes out

I don't understand why Buck and Pat aren't calling this game..........not too impressed with the bozos who are

Brett Cecil is on the mound .........I would have given Marcus another inning

Great play by Josh barehanded to Eddy for the first out

Brett walks Davis with 1 out

Brett is out and Joe Biagini comes to the mound

Joe strikes out the batter - 2 away

Joe's getting some good calls by the home-plate ump and he gets the last out.............Rock on Joe!

Missed the name of the Jay's first batter but he's out on a fly ball to center

Tulo at bat down 1 - 2.........and strikes out

Oriole's throw another pitcher on the mound

Upton Jr at the plate facing 2 and 2..........3 and 2.......and he flies out but some ******* in the stands threw a bottle of water onto the field just missing the Oriole's outfielder who stayed cool and made the catch.........that is unacceptable............I imagine they will hunt the twit down and that'll be it for his attendance at this event.

Jays are retired in order

The police are in the stands looking for the perp as Jason Grilli takes to the mound in the top of the 8th

1 down on a little 'blooper' to right nicely nabbed by Zeke

Jason gets the 2nd batter on a ball and 3 strikes.....then gets down 2 - 0 to the 3rd batter.........now 3 - 0.......strike 1......and Eddy gets him on an infield hopper to first for the 3rd out of the inning...............whew

The Orioles are making good use of their bullpen tonight

Kevin up to bat and strikes out - 1 away bottom of the 8th

Zeke looking at 2 and 2..........fouls out to the stands.....and he comes through with a lovely little base hit .......that little Zeke, he sure has been coming through for the Jays lately...........Devon at the plate bunts the first ball foul......there you go, one of the announcers just said it..........the Jays are playing some ball ..........but Devon just grounded into the inning ending double play. Darn it.

Roberto is warming up to start the 9th inning with the game still tied 2 - 2..........this could go to OT

Unless of course some likely or unlikely hero happens to hit a walk-off homer for the Jays in the bottom of the 9th.......that'd be nice.

First out for Osuna on a little hop to the mound and a short pitch for Roberto to first then goes 2 and 2 on Trumbell........who fouls off the next pitch........and the next.....then Roberto gets him swinging for the strike-out.........well done Roberto... 2 away

Ball..............ball 2......3 and 0........strike 1........strike 2 called but the ball was outside on the diagram.......strike 3 and the Orioles are retired in order

This could be it Jay's fans...........one run will do it. Have faith. Believe.

3 balls and a strike to Josh who leads off the order..........................fair ball double and what a beauty that was...........just skirted the base line for a fair ball................Yeah Josh

They are walking Eddy!!!!!!!!!!

Joey down 1 - 2.............fouls out to right field ...............and he strikes out..1 away

Orioles go to their bullpen again

Double play and the inning ends with two Jays stranded on base........and we are definitely headed to OT.

Roberto out again for the 10th gets behind 2 and 1 then gets a strike for 2 and 2...........and the batter flies out to Joey for 1 away

Osuna is leaving the game... I was on the phone to a client and missed exactly what happened - apparently they are worried about him having injured something.........will update when further word about his condition comes down......if it comes down

Fransico Liariano gets the second out on a short hop to Josh.........then goes 2 and 1 on the next batter.........who pops out to Eddy for an easy 3rd out and the Jays have yet another chance to take that trip to Texas

Okay, Buck is saying he thinks that Roberto's shoulder was bothering him and a replay of his last pitch shows him wincing a bit.

Top of the order, Tulo takes a ball then 2 strikes..........I really don't like this pitcher.........not fond of pitchers who have to wiggle their bodies so much...........it makes me queasy...........anyway, Tulo flies out for 1 away

Without Osuna they are pretty much toast in next round. But if we get rid of the Oreos, let's do it.

Perhaps overusing him a bit down the stretch could be a reason for his shoulder to be sore. After all the concern over Sanchez's innings, then you over extend Osuna.

I am not watching just following. Every time I turn on the TV, bad things happen ... 2 run HR, Martin Double Play.

Smokie at the plate ..........gets ahead 2 and 1......and an inside ball that almost got Smoke's midsection make it 3 and 1.........followed by a sneaky one that just caught the top of the rectangle.......Smokie fouls off the next pitch.....and the next one........and strikes out - 2 away

I was surprised when I saw Roberto back in for the 10th........sure hope that it is just a bit of a strain.

Jays go down in order and we are off to the 11th

Fransico back on the mound to start the 11th........

Short hop to Devon who makes the throw in time for the out at first - 1 away

Short hop to Tulo for the out at first - 2 away

Wow..........Fransico was on fire............1, 2, 3 away and we are off to the bottom of the 11th

Now that's taking care of business

Zeke at the plate..........even at 2 and 2 then get caught looking on strike 3 for the first out and yet another Oriole pitcher is coming to the mound
