That's kind of my point. And you have a natural interest in the law and legislation.
In my defence, I would acquaint myself with the law and my obligations, as well as my employees obligations, as soon as I was informed that they were going on a medical leave.

Oh for sure, the basics, the stuff that comes up all the time, and the common sense stuff as well. Everyone should know it, and if they don't have it on the top of their heads they should find out. (That's usually why I get all the weird questions is when something odd comes up in the workplace. I don't know why they call their accountant with that though, maybe because they figure we do payroll so we would know?)
I usually called a lawyer, lol.

What I've seen, and it certainly isn't restricted to Tim Hortons, is a workforce in need of unionization.

The fast food industry thrives on low paid, unskilled, uneducated, young and or old labour.

And if I was asked for an honest opinion as to why, I'd have to say it's because of the very issues we've discussed here. Those two groups are less likely to understand their rights, and or fight back.

In my entire life I've eaten product from Timmy Hos exactly twice-once in Port Alberni and once in Abbotsford neither known as paragons of culinary excellence-IOW I was stuck for brekkie.

I still regret eating both 'meals'.
You do have taste. Who knew.

There is something funny about fat food joints in Dawson Creek. When I was in vocational school there in the mid 70s the local A&W got busted putting dog food in the burgers. Now I personally think it was an improvement to their regular slop but it is illegal.
Why We should need foreign workers for a no mind job like this is beyond me. There are lots of unemployed Canadians that could take those jobs.

The situation is maybe a little more complicated than that, in that area I think anyone who (really) wants a job has got one at $25-$40 an hour, so the ones that are left Timmy probably doesn't want. Anyone from outside the area probably isn't too keen to relocate up there for $10 an hour.

I see no reason to Boycott Tim's. TH has always been highly sensitive in matters that tarnish their brand. If these accusations are factual then Tim's will revoke the franchise's license - and if no one is interested in purchasing it they will manage it themselves.

Good footnote. LOL

There are coffee snobs that populate these boards, lol.

Timmy's ain't that bad.

I'm not exactly a coffee snob myself, but Timmy's ain't that good either. There is
just something wrong tasting with their coffee. But God forbid I have two in a
short period of time (within a few days of each other), I crave that uriny tasting
version of a beverage that they sell as coffee.

I do know great coffee when I taste it, & I'm quite happy with a to-go from a
Robin's (pretty passable bordering on not bad at all)....but Timmy's just isn't
right somehow....& I've never been able to bring myself to paying for a cup of
coffee from a StarBucks...even when I'm trapped in an airport for a long lay
over and it's the only choice to be had.

I've always thought that Tim's coffee tasted like vomit.

I have no idea how Starbucks can charge what they do for the swill they sell. It's almost worse than Tim's.

I don't know how any of them have the nerve to charge what they do for a cup a swill, Christ it's only coffee. Where I bowl a good cup of coffee is $1.10 and a refill is $0.65. and you get to drink it out of a cup.

I lived in nearby Fort St John for 4 years. In my time I there, I saw three new restaurants built, that then sat empty because they could not get staff for them. Investors are sitting on tons of money to open businesses, but lacking in people to staff them. People are rich up there. They don't need fast food jobs when they can jump on a pipe wrench or run a hot shot truck for 5 times the pay.

I got a cold response in university from a prof regarding a case study (which coincidentally was for TH) on how to retain employees.

This was 30 years ago and there was no way that the correct answer was to pay them more. It was suggested I become more creative, even though the scenario pointed to wages as the culprit.

It was at this point I realized my heart and soul wasn't into Business Admin...............

It isn't into a quality cup of good coffee either.

The little shop here only charges $2 for their house blend. And it's an excellent cup of coffee.

They have about 2 dozen beans to choose from for an extra .50 cents and their house blend beats Tim's by a long shot.

Sorry to break it to you but you are a coffee snob, lol. The first step is always admitting that you have a problem. ;)

Country Style Donuts, who were all put out of business by Tim's around here, used to have a pretty decent cup of donut-house coffee.

I always prefer a good home brewed coffee and I have a preference for Colombian blends as they are nice and bold but not too bitter.

And yes, I can still enjoy a Tim's coffee, double cream, in the morning on my way to work. Lol.

No, you can bring in temporary foreign workers for many kinds of businesses. It's an involved process and you need to go through government channels, but it's not just farm labour.

Hiring Temporary Foreign Workers in Canada

Why would you need to? We are told there is 7% of the workforce out there out of work and looking for jobs -- any jobs. Why can't they pour coffee?

I love good coffee- Tim’s ain't bad- but far from great tasting coffee. Yes I have a problem.
I recall returning to Canada and ordering a cappuccino – After tasting it the young lady asked for my opinion. And I provided it
Do not use 2 or 10 % cream- use the heavy cream 35 %, froth it properly- and make sure the bean is not that crappy stuff either.
She was not pleased – even though I was polite and did not use the word crappy.

I heard that owner of Timmy's in Dawson Creek spouting off on the radio this morning...................Guilty as sin! denies doing anything wrong and it's all the employees' fault. I think a decent owner would first want to sit down with the employees and listen and try to solve the problem in a sane manner and then if they are indeed A$$holes he can still fire them.

Country Style was OK. Maybe I am a bit of a coffee snob, I guess.

You can enjoy a Tim's double cream. I drink everything black so I taste it.
I thus can't hide anything with cream or suger, etc...nor should I have to,
but I hear you.

A bird in hand is worth two in the bush, and a Tim's is better than a kick
in the **** with a frozen moccisin. Robins (for take-out) has Tim's beat
hands down, but sometimes you have to take what you can get.
