House committee chair calls for investigation into $400 million border wall contract awarded to company recommended by Trump
The chairman of the House Committee on Homeland Security on Wednesday called for an investigation into a $400 million border wall contract awarded this week to North Dakota-based Fisher Sand and Gravel.
Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) said there are reasons to be suspicious of the decision to bestow such a large contract on the company, citing President Trump��s repeated promotion of Fisher to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and a recent visit by the acting secretary of the Department of Homeland Security to a span of privately financed barrier the firm built outside El Paso.

Judge in Texas blocks Trump’s plan to build border wall using military funds
A federal judge in El Paso ruled that the administration lacks the authority to divert money appropriated by Congress for a different purpose.
The Trump administration wanted to use $3.6 billion in Pentagon money to build 175 miles of steel barriers. The court’s permanent injunction casts new doubt on President Trump’s ability to fulfill his pledge to erect 450 linear miles of fencing by the end of next year.
