The stupidity is as thick as the fake panic being spread.

Reality says its impossible.

Before thinking about tariffs, 27.6 terawatt-hours (TWh) of electricity needs to be sourced if cut off. 4.3Mbbls oil per day needs to be sourced as does 2.99 trillion cubic feet of natural gas.

If cut off for just 1 day the anarchy would be overwhelming.

Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe has officially called for a federal election.

The news comes Thursday in an interview with Global News, where Moe discussed the potential tariffs coming from U.S. president-elect Donald Trump when he is in office.

“We have just heard today that the federal government may be looking at export tariffs on oil, potash and uranium,” Moe said. “Export tariffs on our own products. So taxing Canadians on products that we are exporting, which is exactly as ridiculous as it sounds.

“It’s a betrayal of those that work in the industry.
“It certainly is a betrayal by the federal government if they are considering any type of an export tax on potash, oil or uranium.”

Moe said he has never heard any mention of an export tariff suggested from any premier.

“Maybe it’s time for Canadians to have a say and a choice and to determine who they would like to have a four-year mandate to negotiate with the incoming Trump administration,” Moe said.

“We would ask Prime Minister Trudeau to do the right thing, to give Canadians the opportunity to make the choice on who is going to represent them at the table… that can happen anytime.”

Have you noticed they don't mention the part about "control your border and come down on fentanyl or Ill impose 25% tariffs"? The whole reason for imposing tariffs. Its getting sickening fed cis mis disinformation 24/7

Both Moe & Smith are intent on finding border solutions but the news is thin on reality.

Oil, uranium, & potash. Which two provinces between the two of them are the leaders in exports of oil, uranium, & potash?

Is that Quebec and New Brunswick? Nope.

Weird this news story isn’t saying that there would be an export tax on Dairy, Maple Syrup, Aerospace, Auto Parts, & French Fries, etc…I wonder why?

The U.S. president-elect has shown no signs of backing off a Nov. 25 announcement that he plans to impose 25-per-cent tariffs on all Canadian and Mexican imports unless both countries stop illegal migration and smuggling of the opioid fentanyl into U.S. territory.

Ms. Smith responded Thursday that “under no circumstances will Alberta agree to cut off oil and gas exports. Quebec Premier François Legault, and Newfoundland and Labrador Premier Andrew Furey, speaking at a joint news conference Thursday, also said that stopping energy exports is not on the table. Mr. Legault said Prime Minister Justin Trudeau can avert a trade war by securing the border as Mr. Trump has requested.

“I had the chance to meet with Mr. Trump last weekend in Paris, and he told me very clearly that we can avoid those tariffs if we do what needs to be done with the borders,” Mr. Legault said. “So I think the best choice right now for Mr. Trudeau is to table a plan, with money” to increase border security, he said. “I prefer that then starting a war and stopping sending energy to United States,” Mr. Legault said.

Not quite following the logic in that statement. Export taxes are only applied to products that are exported, not used at home.
Although it is possible he is referring to refined products we import from the US from our own crude oil? This would significantly add to the cost of gas in BC, which imports a lot of refined gas from Washington State. Including jet fuel at YVR.

Here’s what he saying (I think):

Trump threatens to charge Americans the 25% tariff on Canadian goods to dissuade them from buying Canadian goods, if we don’t try to slow down drugs and illegal immigrants from crossing the border into the US.

Trudeau, in retaliation and without consulting the premieres, is talking about taxing Canadian goods going into the states 25% or whatever number he picks (so I’m assuming taxing the exporter in Canada) making the product that much more expensive before Trump can tariff it in America?? To punish Trump? It’s like shooting yourself in the foot to punish your dance partner.

Through his incompetence and arrogance, Prime Minster Justin Trudeau is playing Russian roulette with the economic lives of Canadians and sending a clear signal to U.S. president-elect Donald Trump that his Liberal government is in chaos.
1734419171106.jpeg
The Liberal party Trudeau leads is consumed by political infighting, with the PM, cabinet ministers and MPs more concerned with their own political futures than the good of the country.
1734419222051.jpeg
If Trudeau truly cared about the country, he would have resigned Monday or called an election, so that the next prime minister of Canada would have a clear mandate to negotiate with Trump from a position of strength.
1734418838729.jpeg
Instead, Trudeau spent the day without speaking to Canadians about the chaos that reigned in Ottawa on Monday after his deputy prime minister and finance minister, Chrystia Freeland, resigned from cabinet on the day she was to deliver the fall mini-budget.

Tired of being humiliated by leaks from within the Trudeau government questioning her competence and, she said, being told by Trudeau on Friday he was going to replace her as finance minister, Freeland quit cabinet, but not before firing a rocket aimed at Trudeau’s credibility, because it’s 2015-ish.
If Trudeau won’t quit, then NDP leader Jagmeet Singh must join with Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre and Bloc Quebrcois Leader Yves-Francois Blanchet to defeat the Trudeau government on a confidence motion at the earliest opportunity.

Singh said Monday that Trudeau, his former political ally, must resign, but would not say definitively (😉) whether he would vote to defeat the Liberals on a confidence motion…because…he won’t.

Singh won't. He's too much of a coward & his pension is more important than Canadians.

No idea, but CBSA is stepping up more random inspections. We had one last week where they completely went through an RV, then didn’t know how to properly close the compartment doors and bent one of the doors, etc… good times…& of course the driver can’t be anywhere near when this is happening to say this is how you do it, etc…

Canada announces new border rules following Trump tariff threat

  • BBC News

    Updated 18 December 2024, 01:44 GMT
Canada has promised to implement a set of sweeping new security measures along the country's US border, including strengthened surveillance and a joint "strike force" to target transnational organised crime.

The pledge follows a threat from President-elect Donald Trump to impose, when he takes office in January, a 25% tariff on Canadian goods if the country does not secure its shared border to the flow of irregular migrants and illegal drugs.

Economists say such tariffs could strike a blow to Canada's economy.

Announcing details of the plan, Canada's minister of finance and intergovernmental affairs said the federal government would devote C$1.3bn ($900m; £700m) to the plan.
