Before thinking about tariffs, 27.6 terawatt-hours (TWh) of electricity needs to be sourced if cut off. 4.3Mbbls oil per day needs to be sourced as does 2.99 trillion cubic feet of natural gas.

If cut off for just 1 day the anarchy would be overwhelming.

Although it is possible he is referring to refined products we import from the US from our own crude oil? This would significantly add to the cost of gas in BC, which imports a lot of refined gas from Washington State. Including jet fuel at YVR.

Trump threatens to charge Americans the 25% tariff on Canadian goods to dissuade them from buying Canadian goods, if we don’t try to slow down drugs and illegal immigrants from crossing the border into the US.

Trudeau, in retaliation and without consulting the premieres, is talking about taxing Canadian goods going into the states 25% or whatever number he picks (so I’m assuming taxing the exporter in Canada) making the product that much more expensive before Trump can tariff it in America?? To punish Trump? It’s like shooting yourself in the foot to punish your dance partner.

No idea, but CBSA is stepping up more random inspections. We had one last week where they completely went through an RV, then didn’t know how to properly close the compartment doors and bent one of the doors, etc… good times…& of course the driver can’t be anywhere near when this is happening to say this is how you do it, etc…

Canada has promised to implement a set of sweeping new security measures along the country's US border, including strengthened surveillance and a joint "strike force" to target transnational organised crime.

The pledge follows a threat from President-elect Donald Trump to impose, when he takes office in January, a 25% tariff on Canadian goods if the country does not secure its shared border to the flow of irregular migrants and illegal drugs.

Economists say such tariffs could strike a blow to Canada's economy.

Announcing details of the plan, Canada's minister of finance and intergovernmental affairs said the federal government would devote C$1.3bn ($900m; £700m) to the plan.
