Rio Tinto seems to be the one making the most aluminum in Canada so the real effect on Canadians would be the loss of jobs in the event demand was reduced. Only reason aluminum is being made in Canada in the first place is cheap power which is going to soon be all we got left that they need.

Not so fast. BC has hit record level hydro imports from the US over the past few years. Its not even cooked with 100% Canadian energy.

Well, the US better hope it can ramp up its aluminum production toute suite or else Americans are going to be paying 25% more for goods made with aluminum for a while. 70% is a LOT to make up if you wanna do it quickly.
This is the thing that is going to bring down most of the tariffs. Despite the best intentions to provide blue collar jobs in the US , the logistics simply do not align with political will. Even with a site picked, and plans in hand, it will take 3 years to build an aluminum smelter.

Tarrif threats on Canada go away the second an election is called.

This is where it will get interesting. Kitamat smelter generates more power than it needs. If the smelter has to shut down all the power from Kamano can be dumped into the grid. For our extreme left government this is a win. They get an instant boost in hydro generation, and eliminate an industry they hate.

They wont be. Tariff threats are just threats. Theyll go away when an election is called.

I rather suspect so as well.
I know there’s no love lost between Trump & Trudeau, but exactly what do you base this assertion/assumption on?

Can you back this claim up with more than your opinion &/or gut feeling? Trump seems to be way down the “Made America Groovey Again” rabbit hole & damn the torpedos sorta thing…& as petty as he comes across…I’m thinking there’s more than just his dislike of Justin Trudeau and him wanting a different playmate in Canada…& if it’s this whole economic union thing, it’s being sold very poorly.

A union, be it an economic or political or romantic or whatever type; there’s a courtship involved, & this isn’t that.

“It’s almost Valentines Day, so come give Daddy some sugar or I’ll sock you in the eye! Bang! Zoom to the moon! Or….?” Isn’t a winning courtship strategy…but maybe that’s just me.

Snidely Whiplash trying to coerce Nell is the way this is coming across in a “Love me or I’ll crush you” sorta way, & that’s just gonna build resentment, and it’s gonna come back in an ugly way for everyone.

As for Unification, Doug Ford must havd heard rumours.

TORONTO — Today, Premier Doug Ford outlined Ontario’s plan to achieve Am-Can energy security and power economic growth on both sides of the border as part of Fortress Am-Can, a renewed strategic alliance between Canada and America that is a beacon of stability, security and long-term prosperity.

It was just this morning (today is just a blur) that I listened to a clip of Ford threatening to throw the switch & turn off the power going south in a not so unified agreement on energy security…& everyone is all over the place. Contradictions are prevalent.

…& Can-Am sounds so much better than Am-Can. Just say’n.

No one knows at this point whether or not Trump will go ahead with his punitive tariffs on Canada (and Mexico), thus risking a continent-wide trade war. But one thing is certain: Canada is no longer a special case in Washington, and the mutually beneficial relationship between Canada and the United States is almost dead.

It is time we put our own economic house together. In the last 10 years especially, we have been complacent, not doing our utmost to develop our boundless mineral, agricultural and human potential. We have always built our wealth on primary resources, from the time of the fur trade, through the square timber trade, to mining, farming and energy.

We simply cannot be sidetracked by worshipping fuzzy numbers regarding how much carbon we put into the atmosphere. We are far from the worst country in this regard, and we have to rebuild our wealth before we can look at these issues seriously once again.

And we have to take our sovereignty challenges seriously. From Arctic defence and security to securing our border with the United States, we must act. That will take a lot of cash and redirecting money from social programs to defence and security.

We do not know at this point if we will soon be entangled with the United States in a trade war. But we do know this: our trust has been broken. We must accept that bald truth and proceed from here.

There wont be a trade war. I get the anxiety due to incitement of the retard media but big picture wise, its not going to happen.
