Maybe if we stay possitive eh? I havent read the book yet but I plan too. Its a fab concept and it is atually very old. I love theories that empower and not degrade or make you cling to someone else or something else. When you find your inner strenth you see the true face of "God".

I've never read it either, but I've always known that positive thought brings about positive things. Don't know how, or why, but it definitely works.

I don't think negative is attracted to us, we are attracted to what we have in common. If you want to be positive, you will notice the negative in others and have more in common with those who are positive minded and vis versa. You know, misery loves company.

Aw jeez... There's no law of attraction, except in the most trivial sense. Buyers don't attract other buyers, they attract sellers, for instance, and we generally hang around with people who share our views. But to think that your attitude can affect the universe is nonsense, there's no evidence to support such a claim. Most places in the universe would be instantly fatal to human life. Even where I live right now would be quickly fatal to me if I stepped outside without the protection provided by our technology, it's -18°. The universe doesn't care about you, there's no reason to think it's sentient or interested. That's unsupportable mystic nonsense.

Then how come we look for the unknown, if there is no concealed attraction to it?:laughing7::wave:

The book is called the secret but many have written about the Law of attraction. Grabhorn, dyer, deepok, walcsh to name a few.

Lets start an experiment. In this thread if someone says a negative we say a [positive about that person back. Like......You are a very educated person on so many subjects (no buts dont even think it ;) ) Lets see what happens.

You are so right... but, I think it might be deeper than that; I know that, weird as it sounds, if I want something to happen, I apply my mind to it as if it is imminent, and generally, it happens..

I don't think so. If you have a goal or what have you in mind, you are aware and looking for opportunity whereas you might not have been before. There are exceptions to everything, but it's important to take notice of the chain of events and what you were thinking at the time - for those who aren't as determined. :)

Im still learning step by step. I have really awesome days and then I flatline. Im still learning how to sustain the energy.

It is often that way with me, too. I asked my Volkhv about it one day. He explained to me that it is one's Power coming and going. Sometimes it works on the level that we can feel and understand, and then we feel happy and full of energy, and all the situations that we have to face are quite successful. And sometimes it works on the levels that we cannot even perceive, and so we feel that is has left us. But it is always with us. It takes quite some time and effort to establish a reltionship with your Power, to become friends with it, so to say. But it is definitely worth it!

I get the feeling your veiws reflect the catholic church's fear of free thinking. Imagine if people thought for themselves then they wouldn't need the church anymore. They would have discovered the secrect to love and happiness was simply how they percieve the world and they way they choose to interact with it.

Note: Wesymanguy, notice I didn't say people would not need God, just the church. Faith and religion are something I have learned to keep seperate.

Mostly I am very sorry for the good and faithful Christians. They are missing so many good things, limiting themselves to a religion that keeps them constantly in fear - fear of thought, fear of knowledge, fear of freedom, and fear of happiness.
But then they start attacking my beliefs and I turn Wolfess :laughing7:

That's not how I read it. The OP said:

Our lives, our brains, we create our reality.
By us focusing on our own negative thoughts, the universe makes that our reality.
When we think of positive thoughts, the universe creates that reality.

Seems to be claiming a pretty direct connection between the state of our thoughts and the state of the universe.

Bad wording then, in my opinion. This is the first (The OP) where I've heard the claim of "universe making our reality."

Our lives, our brains, we create our reality.
This is essentially what I was getting at, though. When we change our attitudes, we change the way we see the universe around us.

When we change our attitudes, we change the way we see the universe around us.
I'm sure that's true, it's almost a tautology, but I read the OP to be stating that we don't merely change the way we see it, we actually directly change the universe itself. Neither case is really the Law of Attraction either. The Law of Attraction is a belief that your attitudes, motives, and intentions draw people to you with similar attitudes, motives, and intentions. More broadly it could be stated as "like attracts like:" if you're negative, negative things will happen to you (blame the victim), if you're positive, positive things will happen to you. In one sense that's trivially true, as I pointed out initially, we tend to hang around with people who share our views and avoid people who'd argue with us all the time. Thus one of the major peddlers of this nonsense, Gary Zukav in his book The Seat of the Soul, concludes that angry people's lives will be filled with angry people, greedy people's lives will be filled with greedy people, and so on, and he indicates we should learn to trust the universe to take care of our souls. Whatever that might mean.

But a moment's thought should show you that the Law of Attraction is false, as I also tried to point out initially. Sellers don't attract other sellers, they attract buyers. Grieving, vulnerable people don't attract other grieving, vulnerable people, they attract supportive friends and relatives who care about them, and vultures and con artists who try to take advantage of them. The New Agers would probably say--in fact I know they would, I've heard them say it--that grief and vulnerability are negative, so that example supports the Law of Attraction, but that kind of argument makes it impossible to verify. The Law means nothing at all if such obvious contradictions of it can get torqued around to support it. Typical New Age magical thinking: don't bother us with evidence and reason, we know what we know. Well, no they don't. They know what they want to believe, which is quite a different thing.

Oh Dex hasnt magic any place in the world for you?
Nope, not in the sense I think you mean, of there being spiritual forces and entities out there that influence us, and that we can influence. There's no evidence that doesn't admit of much more prosaic explanations. I've had many moments that I could accurately describe as magical, meaning that's the best one word summary of their emotional impact on me, but that's all inside my own head.
