I've seen that attitude somewhere recently.
Philosophers tend to carve out a chunk of life and view it in isolation. Which pretty much ignores that all the different areas of life interact. Plus the fact that calling some particular thing a chunk of life and deciding on the boundaries of that chunk is pretty much an exercise in arbitrariness.

Compassion.

Compassion can fit into any economic system but compassion always gets abused by greed to the point it makes people jaded and retract from participation in society.

Occupy is a jealousy movement.

Jealousy doesn't fit in any economic system.

Ethics is a branch of philosophy worth looking into if you want a more practical approach.

But yea, they gave it about a century before they had to admit that people weren't able to really self govern at that time and made some real gains during the humanitarian revolution in the 18th century.

Article doesn't say what the errors are and when you try to click the link it puts you behind a paywall.

"For example, once the FT cleaned up and simplified the data, the European numbers do not show any tendency towards rising wealth inequality after 1970. An independent specialist in measuring inequality shared the FT's concerns."

Translation, they changed the answer to something they liked, and they're not going to tell you who the independent expert is, or what they said, and apparently the claim in America holds even after they 'cleaned up and simplified the data'. Sounds like everything is above board...In fact the only economists they quote, have good things to say about Piketty's work.

There's been unchallenged, unanimous support for his work...UNTIL NOW
Unanimous?

And the dates suggest these writers have been calling him wrong since Piketty's book hit the stands. Don't you get tired of pulling this stuff out of your a$$.
