The Demise of Detroit!

The abortion rate for Detroit is amongst the highest in the U.S. and especially afflicts the African American community where it is 4X higher than for the white population. Coupled with a fertility rate well below the rate of replacement, rampant gang and drug violence for young people and you have a situation of a city that has given up on its own future.
Poverty is a spur to that.. but the enshrinement of culture of hopelessness and self obliteration sabatoges any and all efforts to re-establish its industrial vitality. What's being built now is Casinos.. with the futile optimism that Detroit will become a tourist mecca.
I guess they can visit the empty and rotting asembly plants and foundries.. and the bombed out neighbourhoods.. kind of like a Univeral Theme Park of a post apocalyptic landscape.. before dropping the kids' college funds at the slots. There aint going to be any jobs that make the investment worth while anyway. :roll:

Isn't Detroit the town the Romney's built? The poster-city for their shining investment and leadership?
I don't blame the Romneys or anyone else. Sometimes circumstances are what they are, and have little to do with the bluster and baloney of politics. Usually 99.99% of the time.

Resistance to taxation is a very old American tradition. The American Revolutionary War was in part fought over the imposition of taxes by the British. The Whiskey Rebellion originated over the issue of taxes and duties. The imposition of income taxes during the American Civil War caused riots.
EagleSmack is at it again, I didn't say the Tea Party did anything to Detroit. I said give
them the leavers of power and they would make the whole country look like this. That
city does have a history of Democrats running the show, granted, but the Republican
conservative wealthy skimmed the tax breaks for profit while the social programs ended
up appeasing the lower classes until the rich sought greener pastures.
Thus they both contributed to the mess they collectively made. Free Trade allowed the
rich to get tax incentives to dismantle the industrial complex of America in the mistaken
belief that Asia would come around to our way of thinking and that won't happen.
The Donald and his chiming chorus of socially conservative malcontents are destroying
America itself. Take note, I am not speaking of fiscal conservatives here I am speaking
of the shrieking nut cases that still know know the election is over and they would not
save institutions or factories or anything else. About the only thing they would supply to
the people is wood for the homeless people's burning barrels in winter.
America is going to hell in a hand basket and this is the beginning, and part of the problem
a big part is the obstructionist policies of the tea party that have infested the Republican
Party. The tea party does not need to be listened to except as part of a thirty day mental

You win by not over-taxing
This is all ridiculous. Cars are built everywhere now. Henry Ford's production line is robotic. No amount of tax cuts, spending cuts, entitlements and handouts, faith-based job programs, Obamacare, Romnesia or anything else can change that.

The major cause is the lack of gun control and the law enforcement's inability to properly protect their citizens.
It is typical of the liberals. Can you imagine DG walking into a meeting in Detroit and saying...
"Hey! If you think you have it bad here in Detroit... if the Tea Party ever takes control the whole nation will look like this place!"
Detroit and all the major cities... Liberalism and Progressives in action. You can see it daily. No wonder why our schools don't stack up against many western nations. We have to factor in the public schools of all the inner cities to the national average.
Taxes being good has to be qualified though. Are we taxing people to do the things
we are committed to that need to be upgraded? Are we taxing because we have a
regime that is not efficient? These become the ultimate questions. For example its
not how much money is spent by government it is what the money is being spent on
and whether the money is spent effectively.
There are all kinds of infrastructure out there that never got repaired for more than a
generation. Instead of paying as the problems occurred, they have waited and now the
bills are even bigger than they would have been.
Americans against taxes, is nothing new and the fact is they still haven't learned. The
old chip on the shoulder just gets bigger after all the attitude is We are Americans and
we shouldn't have to pay. We should be everyone for themselves.
If that is the case they should have their business community trying to compete in a new
world without decent roads and other facilities. Oh and we will sell the ports to foreign
companies, hey we don't have to pay. Then a 2008 comes along and everyone is wondering
what happened. Mr Consequence came to visit.

Right on Kreskin. Many inner cities have been fudging the grades for some time now. Success (higher grades- higher graduation rates) means more money for the school... Success means advancement opportunities for school administrators of "successful" schools.
