Self-Centred socialists.... What's-good-for-me-is-good-for-you.
LW , no nothing like that, then it would not be true democracy. The middle is the line we follow on the road when we drive, veering to either side logic will tell us we will collide with something if we veer to much on either side. The middle has been reached many more times in the past by Liberalism then Conservativisem, thus as you know LIBERALISM has been in preference by the Canadian voter, more often then any political alternative of the time. So,,,,,,,,,, how is it self centered Socialists.....?

Again, depends upon what one means by 'free market'. It is generally accepted that there must be some restrictions on the free market. Within that constraint, Canada is a free market country and Liberals do believe in free market.

Again let us take the analogy of freedom of religion. Most people (maybe not you) will say that Canada has freedom of religion. But there are some obvious restrictions on it. Within that constraint (reasonable restrictions), we have freedom of religion.

I think you are just quibbling here, splitting hair.

Lets see how far Free Market extends in Canada
1. health Care fails in Free market -subsidize by the Government, making it almost illegal to obtain private service outside of Dental, comestic, and so on.
Though if you have money you can travel, even take one of those medical vacations some companies offer.

2. Canadian Wheat Board Fails - Farmers arrested in Alberta trying to sell their own products, with out using the board.

3. CBC Fails - Love CBC radio Programming, but is fully subsidized with tax money.

4. GST / Sales Taxes Fails free market - The more you spend the more tax you pay.

And on and on

You drive on the centreline? That tells me you're as good a driver as you are a salesman. Rhetoric and poor prose isn't going to sell me on a ship without a skipper.

Look, lets use logic before self gratification on member denigration, LW. sorry if you misunderstood my analogy, we use the center line so we do not veer to either side because we will hit something on the way, same with politics you veer to ether side to much and you got problems, and I explained that Liberalism has not veered to either extreme. It appears that you have an axe on the fact that the Liberals cut your pension to a lower number per month, and at the same time the Conservatives said they will not tax income trusts and they did. So why all these denigration, a bad salesman and the rest, I am not here to sell you anything my good friend ....................................All we are doing is discussing the Definition of Liberalism. no need to through crap at me. It will not change the truth.

Sock ... as usual what you are saying does not make one bit of sense. My axe has to do with idiots who think only their party's policies. If you can't think outside the box, you'll be buried in that box.

How is any pension I may be getting any of your business? The only time my pension and any federal government will coincide will be when I turn 65 and that is not for a few years yet - if it hasn't gone completely bankrupt in the Liberal plan to reduce residency requirements from 10 to 3 years.

Like I said. I am an undecided voter. If what I see here in the intolerance displayed by both you and your new partner is the Liberal brainwash game, I want no more part of Liberals than I do Conservatives, or unionists.

Isn't the "Center" based on ones own individual Political Bias? Doesn't everyone
consider themselves in the "Center" no matter how extreme their own bias is?
Hi Ron, sure yes true, but some politicians get in on the premise that we are center what ever the political stripe inspect of extra hidden bias, and when in secure position the true colors show up. Isn’t it how it works? at least that is what I have witnessed through the years, which for me looking at all the economic anecdotes center left seems to fit the name Liberalism................Like I said to LW I am not selling anything only a discussion.

Interesting how die hards of any stripe do more damage to their cause than win converts. Jack is to conservatives, what SJP and Soc are to liberals, what eanassir is to Muslims and herald is to Christianity - a bunch of silly buggers turning people off. When an issue is emotionally charged, logic and reason take a flying hike.

Amazing.... Simple, isn't it? Why can't they figure it out?

But I am not running for office, why would you base you decision on people like my self when in fact I have nothing to do with policy making?

I do apologize on the pension bit,
I only mentioned the pension cuts because you have said in the past that the Liberals have balanced their books on the backs of pensioners. It is none of my business I agree. But you seem to be angry because I point out anecdotes that have a relative connection to our standard of living, which quite frankly as I said before I trust my standard of living better in the hands of Liberalism then Conservativisem.

Here CB all you can eat, enjoy.

Is that supposed to be funny in some way?

It lacks context, has no flow, you really should just stick to babbling about things you obviously have no grasp of.

I can understand your wanting to get into comedy, given the absurd hilarity oozing from your posts. But you obviously lack the skills for this venture as well.

I don’t believe in free market when it comes to health care. We know what happens to health care when there is totally free market; we have the example of USA. Highest per capita spending, poorest health in the developed countries. Indeed, even USA has realized her mistake and has finally moved away form unfettered free market in medicine.

So we don’t have free market in health care? I should hope so.

As to others you are giving examples where there is no free market. But they are not unique to Canada; most other countries are in the same boat. We may have CBC and TVO; USA has PBS, NPR and Voice of America.

Again, refer to the link I posted a while ago, where all the countries in the world are listed according to the free market. Canada if anything is slightly more free market compared to that supposed bastion of free market, USA (72% as opposed to 70%).

Isn't the "Center" based on ones own individual Political Bias? Doesn't everyone
consider themselves in the "Center" no matter how extreme their own bias is?

Quite so, Ron. No extremist considers himself to be one. The worst type of extremist always believes that the whole country thinks the way he does.

But the centre is decided by what the country as a whole thinks. And center is at different place in different countries (and in the same country, is at different place at different times). Thus in Canada 60 or 70% of Canadians support gay marriage. So support for gay marriage is the centre position in Canada. In USA, 65% oppose gay marriage, so opposition for gay marriage is the centre position in USA.

Same way, opposing death penalty is the centre position in Canada; support for it is the centre position in USA. Centre position is what the majority of population thinks.
