The death of personal responsibility

Last weekend my wife picked up a booster seat from a garage sale. The seat seemed reasonable and the price was $5.00.
After reading this topic I had a quick look at the seat and I was relieved to see a CSA label on it. I don't know when CSA started
labeling car seats but I think it is a good indication that the thing will probably be reliable.

Well, booster seats are a lot less integral to a child's safety. They're important for getting the belt into the right place, but they aren't responsible for holding the kid like a car seat is.

Canadian car seats, as well as booster seats, also have to have a CSA label. I would say using a car seat without a CSA label is taking a chance.

True. But I think the point is made that even a CSA labeled car seat involved in an accident may be useless.

If you use a car seat that was damaged in an accident, the responsibility goes right back to you, the driver, the same as not using a car seat
where one is required.

Sheer and utter stupidity! And some people have questioned why I choose NOT to live in Canada, even though I am a citizen. This kind of governmental crap is exactly why!

A powerful stand against garage sale over regulation. Keep fighting the good fight brother. I refuse to live in Canada because it is illegal for clear soda to... wait..

OK, that's better. Where was I? Right, I refuse to live in Canada because it is illegal for clear soda to contain caffeine!

As soon as you turn the ignition switch (baby or no baby) you are taking a chance.

What about used life jackets? Would putting it on and jumping in a depth over your head be a sufficient test?

Is the concept of personal responsibility to be whipped into submission and made irrelevant? Who wants to live in a world where that is the outcome?
Inserting every possible scenario that could suggest or defend government intervention does not bode well for human evolution, yep evolution is still happening, albeit slower than the norm. We, like all creatures, evolve in response to attrition.

Personal responsibility went out the window the minute we decided to allow government regulation of safety sensitive materials.

I don't get why it's okay to expect that those profiting from the sale of goods should be expected to follow the law at one level, but not at another. Why expect Canadian Tire to sell only safe goods, but let Jane from down the road profit off a car seat that was in a vehicle rollover?

I'm not sure that Crappy Tire sells only safe goods! How "safe" are car "repairs" that aren't done properly?

I've generally found that Canadian Tire stand behind their work. Where safety is concerned, they are as good as anyone in the business.
Canadian Tire stores are a franchise so quality control is going to vary a bit but any problems should be taken to management.

And I've found the opposite at their store right here in Vernon. Mind you on another job they did OK.

If they're caught circumventing health Canada regulations, CSA standards, etc., on the sale of goods, report them. But I think you're intentionally just wandering off the topic at hand into other areas that are under the pervue of other regulatory bodies.

Yes he is, he obviously feels he got screwed with a car repair, and like most with limited mental capacities, is trying to link the 2.

Oh, I understand different departments of a department store have different policies and standards on things like safety and reliability. I stand corrected!

We are talking about safety standards, not whether or not a mechanic is reliable or not.
