Deficit reduction is not an end in itself. It is the means to an end. Canadians must now decide what kind of country they want to build with the hard-won dividend.

Not at all. The TSX was on an upswing today and the polls will be on an upswing tomorrow for the Conservatives too....

How do you cook a TSX? Do you tuck your Dow-Jones in and kiss it goodnight? Will Bay Street keep you warm and dry? See ... those are Harper terms. Profit at any cost and screw the people.

So you think it was wrong of the Liberals to put us in Afghanistan Soc?

You are normally very pro-liberal.

But in this case, the Afghanistan was is a Liberal Agenda. Its one I agree with, but it isn't a Conservative issue, its one the Liberals made.

.....to the tune of `21.1 billion` dollars by 2011....

Hey Scratch good day to you, 21.1 Billion could do so much for our health care, but Harper spend 21.1 Billion BROWN NOSING TO BUSH......What a legacy..............

What is really sickening here is that it is believed that Harper new that the cost was going to sky rocket and remained silent about it……………….This will put Harper on a serious popularity slide……as he already knows that the Conservative 4x4 isn’t working. Stuck in the mud…………

Hey, it could be worse. Harper would have had us in both Afghanistan and Iraq, and the price tag would be much higher....

That may be so but Harper was in B.C. today saying that it was justified and he would continue the work, because it was our duty (meaning Canada's) and our commitment to N.AT.O.

The point is that its pretty hypocritical for liberal supporters to rail on the Conservatives about the war debt when they are thick in the middle of it, too.

Oh, 100% you are on the money, looking what the Cons, or they like the name Republicans did to the BIG EAGLE they took all the feathers off. That eagle will take some time to get a new coat of feathers………It looks bad doesn’t it? Absolutely a worthy thought, if we had been in Iraq as well, Canada would not be able to sustain the cost of both wars, especially Canada today is in desperate need of infrastructure up keep in the tune of $121 Billion, while Chicken Little is at it working to deceive the Canadian voters, that we have a sad plus. What a load of p!sh…………………. :x

If you disagree with the rationale which led to the Iraq war, then you should not vote Conservative.

If you disagree with the rationale which led to the Afghan war, then you shouldn't vote Conservative or Liberal.

That just leaves the NDP or the Greens.

Personally, I agree with the Afghan war, but now I favor negotiating a truce with the Taliban as long as they refuse to allie themselves with anyone allegedly involved in 9/11 and don't interfere with western attempts to bring these people to justice. Canada should even fund Taliban efforts to build mosques, schools, hospitals and other projects of mutual interest and encourage them to seek power by democratic means.

Regarding Iraq: Lying to justify an unprovoked war of aggression against the Iraqi people was a war crime and the people responible should be brought before the International Court of Justice and tried for war crimes and crimes against humanity. Harper supported this war crime. If he had involved Canada in that war, I'd be in favor of putting him before the ICJ too. Fortunately for him and Canada, he was just an opposition leader at the time.
