Yes. Actually, I don't know if Canadian Content laws are still in place, but at the time a certain percentage of airtime had to be devoted to Canadian content on TV and the radio. She was advocating that we raise the percentage even more.

Are you kidding? There were laws dictating what had to be shown or heard?

You know why?

Because everything happens 1/2 hour later there.

So when the rest of the world blows up they got half an hour to kiss their asses goodbye? Have to ask cabbage head the exact time of destruction so I can be in newfieland to watch the center of the universe meltdown.

... and that dumbass "trickle down theory".

What happens when you don't unzip your pants before taking a leak.

Not in so much detail. Simply that a certain percentage of programming had to be Canadian, leaving it up to the channels to decide the actual content otherwise. I think those laws are still in place, though I could be wrong, since they may have been removed for NAFTA.

Still are. A certain class of people in Toronto are afraid the rest of us won't watch their favorite bad shows without laws to force us to. Somehow Cabbagehead missed this little law when he falsely claimed that Canada is one of the most decentralized countries in the world.

That's certinly new to me. It sounds like the Democrats when they push for forcing radio stations to play more liberal talk show hosts since they can't seem to have any successful ones.

Which ones?
In this "global village" we're supposed to live in,it would be fun to see channels from other countries.
We watch stuff from the US, the UK, Ireland, Oz, etc.

More trickle down than what happens in "trickle down theory". lol

Yes, but they are limited to a percentage that has to be "Canadian Content".

What i would like to see,is a reduction of the amount of commercials on tv,years ago when we got our first VCR,i recorded 7 episodes of a series on a 6 hours cassette, later it was 8 episodes of a series, the more time goes the less time there is in an episode, the more commercial there is,WTF does the CRTC wait to regulate that?

I understood the commercials in days gone by (pre-cable/satalite/etc...) when you
pulled the signals out'a the air money-free with your Rabbit-Ears....& you paid for
your viewing time by watching the commercials...but those days are over, aren't
they? Can you still get any signal now (legally) without subscribing to a signal
carrier service of some type?

Free signals are a thing of the past (I believe), so if you are paying for the signals
now with your hard earned after-tax income now, how can commercials be thust
upon us and still be justified? Just ask'n...

For that matter why do I have to sit through commercials when I pay $13.00 to see a movie?

That's pre-popcorn prices of course.

Deregulation is why you can fly for so cheap in the USA and Canada.. open competition.

As far as John Wayne, love his movies.. James Stewart, William Holden, Errol Flynn, Randolph Scott, Kirk Douglas, Ward Bond, Gregory Peck, Glenn Ford, Alan Ladd, Rock Hudson are some of my favorite western actors.. ;)

I hope you didn't get "a piece of the rock";-)

Especially when they cut out parts of the movie to make room for the ads. And then warn us every few minutes about content containing violence, nudity, coarse language, suggestive scenes, etc. (You can thank the CBSC for that bit of nannying).

And then run the same ad 2 or 3 times in the same ad break.

Speaking of the repeated warnings, I was watching Food Network the other week and they have this show about different restaurants/food trucks in various cities. Can't remember the name (Eat Street maybe, doesn't matter) anyway this show gets 'review's' from people on the street, often uncensored, so obviously there may be "coarse language" on some episodes. They actually did the entire 'may contain scenes of nudity, violence, etc" warning. I nearly fell out of my seat laughing, never though I'd hear a warning about nudity and sexuality on the Food Network of all places.

It might help with ratings though. ;)

Everytime I turn on the tv these days I feel like I'm being molested by that stupid Dairy Queen commercial. The one with the inset of the guy singing about a guy bringing his boss to lunch.

Its the same for most things on tv,even some shows or movies that have no freaking nudity,we get this moronic warning,If i watch Texas Chainsaw Massacre,i know there's gonna be graphic violence,i am not an idiot thats why i watch it.

I wished they also had warning for some other typ of movies "This movie contain scenes so boring you wished you had not wasted 2 hours of your life watching it"
