Yes. Actually, I don't know if Canadian Content laws are still in place, but at the time a certain percentage of airtime had to be devoted to Canadian content on TV and the radio. She was advocating that we raise the percentage even more.

What i would like to see,is a reduction of the amount of commercials on tv,years ago when we got our first VCR,i recorded 7 episodes of a series on a 6 hours cassette,later it was 8 episodes of a series,the more time goes the less time there is in an episode,the more commercial there is,WTF does the CRTC wait to regulate that?
Meh. 98% of tv content is crap. 98% of ads are crap. If the computer monitor was as large as our tv screen, we'd dump the tv altogether and watch tv content off the net for free and with no ads.

Deregulation is why you can fly for so cheap in the USA and Canada.. open competition.
As far as John Wayne, love his movies.. James Stewart, William Holden, Errol Flynn, Randolph Scott, Kirk Douglas, Ward Bond, Gregory Peck, Glenn Ford, Alan Ladd, Rock Hudson are some of my favorite western actors..

With one exception, Kirk Douglas, they are all dead.
Reaganomics extended far beyond cultural policy, and was by no means a fiscally conservative policy either. It was about cut taxes and increase spending.
Unless you have unlimited bandwidth,it may cost you more to see movies and tv show for free on the net,like if you got internet from bell canada,you'll get screwed every time.
That does not negate their acting ability.. their movies live on as a tribute to their careers.

Well, what are the options?
If you want free TV, then the advertisers pay for it and make you watch commercials. If you reduce commercial time, TV channels have less money and so program quality may drop. If you legislate against TV advertising altogether, then either TV channels go out of business, switch to pay-per-view, or get government subsidies.
While I would not be against banning TV advertising (and I could even see it being a good thing in some ways), and oppose government subsidies for TV channels, I'm also under no illusions that if I had my way it would mean all TV channels would have to switch to pay-per-view or rely on donations from charities.
While it's not necessarily a bad thing, just be awre that's likely waht would happen.
Maybe product placement,like a poster on a wall in the show,or a box of cereal on the table during the scene,might do the same,and without the enterprises wasting money through an ad agency,would be better than some doofus singing and dancing while announcing a freaking toilet bowl cleaner.
