Cash-strapped North Korea is requiring that a foreign country pick up Kim Jong Uns summit hotel bill. Whos going to pay it?

The United States is open to covering North Koreas tab at the Fullerton, a magnificent neoclassical hotel near the mouth of the Singapore River. But it is mindful that prideful Pyongyang may view a U.S. payment as insulting, sources said. As a result, planners are considering asking the host country of Singapore to pick up the tab.

North Korea's Kim Jong Un dismisses 3 top military officials, South Korea report says

The shake-up, reported by South Korea's Yonhap news agency, could not be independently confirmed. But it could represent a move by the North Korean leader to bring in armed forces chiefs who would back his outreach to the United States and South Korea.

Wait 'til the North Korean media get the chance to report from the run down, crime-ridden streets of Washington DC. They'll say "See! We told you that conditions in the capitalist world are bad!"

For all Trump's buffoonery, I do agree with him befriending North Korea as long as it's with caution.

For example, I would support Canada signing a limited free-trade deal with NK. Obviously weapons beyond sports equipment should be off the table and addictive substances too. We might want free trade between privately-own businesses only. North Korea might not have much of that beyond the odd mom and pop shop, but hey, it's a start and gives them an incentive to privatize to expand trade. It gives them hope.

North Korea needs a whole lot of food. Expect to see aid going to them, not trade.

I'm not sure how much aid will help. Could that not risk undermining North Korea's own agriculture? I can't imagine North Korean farmers appreciating us dumping food onto their country and pushing prices down.

Perhaps one solution would be a trade deal that would allow North Koreans to work in Canada visa-free too. That way, some of them might want to come to Canada to work and send money home to their parents. Private charities might give food or money to North Korea too.

They don't produce enough to feed themselves. That seems to be an affliction of most or all Communist regimes. Food is what they need, most of all. I would let the South Koreans take care of that sort of aid. The two Koreas need to "bond".

You both have good points..... It is a delicate issue......as one does not want to make them feel subordinate etc.....as they too have their pride. HOW it's handled is the issue..... but we are ahead of ourselves.

Will be interesting to see if it happens ....( the meet up) and what TRump's spin is on it. ( NK too) Of course Trump gives himself the option (loundlly) of "walkingout" Not sure how Trump's nuke style diplomacy will work.

Kim Jong Un, once known for rarely leaving North Korea, makes his third visit to China, Chinese state media say

The North Korean leaders visit comes about a week after he met with President Trump in Singapore and a day after the United States confirmed a halt to war games with South Korea in August.
