Way cheaper than I would have guessed. The fuel savings will pay for that truck in 3 years.

The whole purpose to these pre orders for the semis is to give Tesla cash to keep alive, because they're burning cash at an unsustainable rate. If it wasn't for this, they'd have to issue another whack of shares, and the existing shareholders have had their investments diluted too many times to put up with that again.

why are food and beverage companies buying so many Tesla semis?

The fact they operate the hub and spoke systems makes these shorter haul vehicles suitable is a fact, but they are also businesses that are heavily invested in image and brand.
