The federal government can't do squat about Alberta. Quebec has shown the way! Separation!

Hell, they could join the USA. I'm sure they would take 'em; it would save having to invade.

If Alberta plays it's cards right it could get larger transfer payments. Maybe it's time they had a referendum?

$14,000 per family of four.

That is the contribution Alberta makes to the Federal gov't over and above what it gets back in services.

Alberta funds the country.............can't be compared with Quebec, which gets paid well to stay in.

Imagine that, Albertans having views that having jobs and money are more important than having a nice landscape for tourists to visit.

If Alberta wants to ruin their landscape for whatever reason, good for them. They get the benefit and they get the mess to live in.

In my mind, its a little like pissing the bed because the washroom is a long walk..but they are the ones forced to lay in it so its up to them.

That's an irresponsible attitude Zzarchov, if you really love the Abertainians, like me, you would invade and save them from thier horribly repressive and stupid evil regime with the rest of us patriots. We could get our Canadian Armed Forces to do this professionally and the new oil contracts would cover the cost of the rescue operation. Where are they? Are they busy?

De facto that would shut down the oil sands EAO.......

And outrage the west.....natural resources being the sole responsibility of the provinces.

You think the NEP alienated the west. You'd have a western separatist party in power in Alberta so fast........

And where, pray tell, would the rest of the country get their money???????

Colpy you sound almost like you applaud the pollution. Natural resourses are the responsibility of the province, but pollution effects everyone.

And where, pray tell, would the rest of the country get their money?

What the hell are you talking about? We do have other industries. B.C. doesn't depend on Alberta's tar sands, nor does any other province.

The NDP position does not affect current projects, only new ones being proposed.

Harper's lack of a plan regarding the tar sands will turn northern Alberta into massive toxic waste zones.

The conservatives lack of a plan will turn this area into a massive version of the Sydney Tar Ponds.

The Sydney Tar Ponds are a hazardous waste site on Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, Canada.

Located on the eastern shore of Sydney Harbour in the former city of Sydney (now amalgamated into the Cape Breton Regional Municipality), the Tar Ponds form a tidal estuary at the mouth of Muggah Creek, a freshwater stream that empties into the harbour. Over the last century, runoff from coke ovens associated with Sydney Steel Corporation's (SYSCO) now-decommissioned steel mill filled the estuary with a variety of coal-based contaminants and sludge. Efforts to clean up the waterway have been dogged by false starts, delays, and political controversy. After extensive public consultation and technical study, a $400 million CAD cleanup plan, jointly funded by the Government of Canada and Nova Scotia, was announced in January 2000.

$400 million to clean up just one little creek! How much will the Conservatives lack of a plan regarding oil sands development cost Canadians?

No longterm management plan regarding oil sands development isn't responsible government.

Imagine someone coming along and showing how to have both?

You know I bet if Laton just mentioned that with closing the Oilsands project he would also take all the guns away, hell I bet he would quickly become the King of Alberta! ;-)

I see we will need smaller vessels. Irving Shipyards in St John could use the work. We're going to need job creation programes very soon, why not develope our arms industries subjugating a rebellious province oops I meant saving a downtrodden christian people from thier repressive fundamental christian terrorist government. Our latest intelligence has Bin Laden hiding in five star Banff or the foothills somewhere.
