Guns shouldn't be controlled.....they should be destroyed. And everyone getting caught with a gun should get automatic jail time.

My right to be protected is completely filled when there is no gun around. POINT FINAL!

Yep. That should help. Just ask the British. They banned handguns completely, seized them all, even from armoured car guards, and saw handgun crime more than double in less than 5 years.

Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant.

No final point, not even a point at all.

Yeah, don't look at any other factors, Colpy. Don't consider that gun crime could have quadrupled if they didn't take steps. Just trot out a few statistics in a misleading way and pretend that you've made your point.

"Hey, I never got hit by a truck this year. It must be because bus drivers wear hats."

I'm not talking about could haves, Jay. I'm talking about claiming that extremely incomplete evidence is proof of anything.

We know that social problems, drug laws, poverty, age demographics, and crime are all interconnected. Presenting data on a small part of the crime statistics and ignoring all of the other factors is dishonest.

And banning guns doesn't solve the problems your talking about either..../

It's part of the solution. It may not be necessary at all if the same people who fight for guns would quit fighting against social programs.

Having a gun is already illegal. I just want the current law to be applied.

Just ask the British? Why don't you go closer and ask the US?

-A much greater proportion of homicides in the United States involve firearms.
-Firearm homicide rates in the United States are 8.1 times higher than in Canada.
-Handgun homicide rates in the United States are 15.3 times higher than in Canada.

Yes we do, and I have a gun.

Will you quit those "enfantillage" please. You have a gun and act like a kid. You know you have to have a special permit to have one. If you don't, I hope you go to jail.

I really think this is a non-issue and it is non-negociable. The only purpose of a gun, is to kill, whether it is for self-defence (which I'm pretty sure almost never happen) or anything else. Therefore, it should not be allowed, nor controled, but erradicated.

Whatever.... you said "Having a gun is already illegal. I just want the current law to be applied."

It isn't illegal, and yes you need a FAC to get one or to buy one. I thought you were completely misinformed....why would I thought anything else?

Exactly cub, and that is what the majority of canadians want, banned handguns. And we do not want a sick group like the NRA coming into this country assisting these indviduals with their tactics. How sick you ask...no worries I will be posting more.

Almost funny! How about testing your gun on yourself see if it hurts.

Now I can see why you want them banned. You couldn't be trusted with one....

Well, I would say that the complete total of number of people with a glimpse of intelligence would agree banning guns.

Doryman, we don't care who you hate, conservative, liberal, whatever, and iamcanadian does not need you to tell him how to post. Get back on topic, there is already a racism thread. Post your deep thoughts there.

But we all care who you, Reverend Blair and others hate. Understood. And my post on institutionalized racism was to educate Reverend Blair on why racial profiling is used. In some cases it is pure racism, yes, but in many it is simply a logical approach to the problem. To tell you the truth, I'd rather have enough police to check everyone out, but so it goes.

And race wasn't brought into this thread by me, Peapod. Try to remember that.

"Almost funny! How about testing your gun on yourself see if it hurts" Cubic quote.

... ? Cubic, what does this have to do with the legality of owning a gun? Yes, using a gun on oneself will hurt. So will using a powersaw. That was just a childish response to you being proven wrong. Grow up.

The handgun law may be popular and will probably be passed. That's step in the right direction to ending gun crimes, but it'll end only a small number of deaths ( those by accidental discharge, kids screwing around with daddy's magnum, whatever.) The majority of gun deaths are through gang warfare and criminal activities, and since these guns are already illegal, making them MORE illegal won't do that much, will it?
