Reality is this flu has attacked lungs with a vengeance.. Anyone with a hint of lung history problems will suffer badly from this flu should they get it as the news keep telling us. My neighbour was telling me he just finished a confirmed bout with it and had double pneumonia and ended up in the hospital one night barely able to breath from his asthma.

My son is due for his follow up booster shot this week and will get it.. Knowing it might be the difference between life and death I will not chance it at any point. I could not bear thinking of the consequences should he ever get this nasty bug and not have been immunized properly.. I am not willing to take a chance considering he is "high risk".

But don't take my word for it.. It only requires one close call from a family or friend to make you get your butt in gear..

Definitely. And even if it does have some bad effects, isn't it still better to ensure that one is still alive later to combat the bad effects?

I scoffed a lot at the media hype surrounding this flu.

Then my friend's brother got sick. A couple days of a cough, and then an otherwise healthy man in his 30's, went into multi-organ failure. He required intensive care, and an artificial coma, while he was put on life support and his blood was cleaned by machines.

And then my cousin got sick. Also a healthy man in his 30's (though a bit of a partier), he followed the exact same route. His lungs flooded, his organs started shutting down.

Both men were brought out of their comas last week, and are recovering, but it definitely changed my view of 'the hysteria' surrounding this flu.

I've never known anyone, even with my many elderly relatives, come so close to dying of a 'mere flu'.

I'm happy they are recovering, Karrie. I think the smartest approach is to just go out and get vaccinated and stop the fretting and worrying. I got my Heiney shot on Saturday, absolutely painless and no side effects whatsoever apart from a little tenderness in the upper arm. I was sure glad when my little 8 year old grand daughter got hers and she has a history of lung problems and had pneumonia and was in hospital overnight at Xmas time one year. Her sister is getting her shot today.

My brother-in-law's girlfriend died a week ago from the swine flu. She was a healthy 43 year old. Sent home several times from the hospital with an incorrect diagnosis. Her lungs became so congested she just died in her sleep. A very sad day on Saturday watching a 14 year old son deal with his mom's death.

When will the masses ever learn? Good question, wrong answer. Doctors Mercola and Blaylock are well known quacks.

Russell Blaylock, M.D. - The Skeptic's Dictionary - Skepdic.com

I think I got i paragraph in when I read this gem...

Thus my distracters cannot claim that I am using material that is not within the mainstream.

I wouldn't put much faith in a doctor that doesn't know the difference between detractors and distracters unless the distracters were playing loud music and he couldn't concentrate on his work.
