Sorry, when I saw the cat I just assumed I was talking to a female ....you should put up a picture of a hummer, D8 or something like that....hey that's a cat too!
That's not a bad idea.

I wondered when I mentioned The Hundred Homes, and you didnt seem to twig to it. I guess its been long enough that the name has faded into history.

That entire section was built immmediately after the war, for returning Vets. The government used the designs of homes typically provided for Army Bases, thats why there are only four or five versions throughout the area. Also why there were none (I believe) that originally had basements. If my memory serves me, your house has an upstairs, am I right?
Ours had been raised and basemented at one time - however, the dummy (or cheap bugger) who did it stopped at a ceiling height of about 6 1/2 feet downstairs - ONE MORE ROW OF BLOCK would have been a half-decent basement! But seeing as I'm 6'1", I always had to be careful to walk around the ceiling lights, until I replaced some of them with flush Box-lights.
We moved there in December of '76; was transferred in early 1980. In that time it's value went up over 25%,which allowed us to get a house much newer and bigger. But I still think of it as a pretty good "starter home".

WOW - what a small world, eh???

ps: I don't know if you've noticed it or not, but the area (as most older areas) is FULL of lawn-fleas! If you have a cat or dog, get collars for them. It got to where the buggers got into our Living Room carpet and started multiplying. Good thing I was putting in new carpets anyway.

And if you see the folks that own the place, tell them about me.
Oh, and BTW, if there is any problem with the Kitchen addition, that was AFTER me! Not too long, probably about 20 or so years ago.

Nope, not a chance - ask Rev; he's probably known me 6 or 7 years now....

Well, it's not like I've seen ya with your pants off or anything. 8O

Sorry, when I saw the cat I just assumed I was talking to a female ....you should put up a picture of a hummer, D8 or something like that....hey that's a cat too!

I have three cats. Does that me a girl too?

He's likely from the, "Basements are for furnaces" school of building. Likely the cousin of the bastard who built my basement. I've lost count of the number of times I've cracked my head on the beams. Of course I'm largely of the opinion that basements are for furnaces too, so I don't go down there much.

No gary the rev and peapod are not jerks. You are for saying that.

Come on now, this board is for all of us to use, it is for discussion and debate, whether we agree with each other or not, and sometimes the debate can be intense but gary, personnel insults are not appropriate.

Lighten up, no1 - it's not like it's the filthiest thing you can say.... I don't know what brought Gary's remarks that on, but it's hardly a "flame". I can tell you, Rev CAN be a "jerk" sometimes - and he would be well within his rights to say the same of ME.

Man, you should see a couple American Forums that I am in!

Svend Robinson announces political comeback

Well its official now. He will be running against Hedy Fry. I wish him well and hope he defeats her.

a snippet:Former New Democrat MP Svend Robinson, who left office after he was caught stealing a diamond ring, has confirmed he's making a political comeback.

Robinson, 53, said he will run against Liberal Hedy Fry and seek the NDP nomination in the riding of Vancouver Centre in the next federal election.

The only things Svend was sick with was greed, a sense of entitlement, and a belief that he was untouchable. (delusions of grandeur?)

This guy is a dangerous moron.

I remember a debate on free speech at UNB in Fredericton. Svend said (i kid you not) "we have a right not to be offended"

In that case Svend, you best head back south of the border, 'cause you sure as hell offend me.

Oh, I'm sorry. It is everybody EXCEPT heterosexual white males that have the right not to be offended. Excuse me.

You are awfully quick to judge him when you don't KNOW what was going through his head. I don't know whether he had a real phsychological issue or not. However kleptomania is a recognized problem and it could have been that he had a momentary mental lapse. He did not try to hide what he did, he's been through therapy and all that, I choose to give himthe benefit of the doubt.

RE: Svend making a comeba

Colpy's rant skips some facts. Svend knew that he'd be caught. He knew about the security cameras, he knew that the owner knew that he'd been looking at the ring. Svend has also been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and lapses in judgement...things that make no sense at all...are one of the recognised symptoms of that disease.

The lunatic ranting from the right about Robinson is nothing but mean-spirited nonsense. They don't like the way he has spoken out against their culture of greed and entitlement, so they attack him. It is the right that are the dangerous morons.

So, what the left wants representing us in Parliament are guys with "bipolar disorder and lapses in judgement..."

No surprize to me that Svend is nuts and has lapses in judgement. I saw him trying to show his support for Chairman Arafat.

What an embarasment!

For God's sake, let's keep this idiot out of Parliament.

Even Hedy Fry would be better.

RE: Svend making a comeba

Quit being purposely obtuse, Colpy. Robinson has sought treatment for his illness and feels that he's ready to come back to work.

Would you prohibit people with cancer from running for election? People with heart conditions? People in wheelchairs? A case can be made why each of those conditions should prohibit somebody from seeking election.

Your spew is just another example of why people do not like the Conservatives. Mean-spirited attacks for questionable reasons do not gain you many fans.

Sorry Rev, I stand by my observations.

A good friend of mine suffers from bipolar disorder. He is on medication. You would think he is fine 99.9% of the time. Then he starts to slip, gently at first, until (in the last episode) he is nude, chasing his landlord through their apartment building.

Mental illness is NOT the same as cancer, broken hips, or the common cold. I expect those elected to represent me to show good (or at least rational) judgement at all times.

Svend is incompetent to serve.

I live in Svend's old riding. He was the best MP I have ever had, one of the few that truly represented his constituents. I was sorry when he left, but I am satified with his replacement, Bill Siksay. Say what you like about Svend, but he was right up there with Chuck Cadman as my pick for one of the best MPs ever. I never vote for the party, always for the individual I feel will best represent the riding. Svend and Bill have done a great job.

RE: Svend making a comeba

There are different degrees of metal illness, Colpy. You are using an inherent prejudice against the mentally ill just because you don't like Svend's politics. It's childish, mean-spirited, and dishonest at its base.

I've heard several people like Ted who feel that Robinson was an excellent MP. That's the measure of a politician, not whether highly partisan individuals think they have found justification to launch personal attacks on him.

Well, I will give you one point.

If I wanted sane, rational representation in Parliament, I would never vote NDP.

Come on Rev.

Think about it.

What you are saying is Svend is ill enough that he is not responsible for his actions.

Yet you seem to believe he is responsible enough to represent us in Parliament.

If there were a cure for his mental illness, I would not have a problem. There is no cure, simply treatment, which is patchy at best in effectiveness.

As an aside, I personally don't believe there is a damn thing medically wrong with Svend.

Be that as it may, he is either incompetent or a thief, or both.

Let's keep him out of Parliament.

RE: Svend making a comeba

How many other politicians suffer from a form of mental illness world wide and have it controlled by medication? Lots. So what?

I think Svend will win as there has not been a viable candidate running against Hedy Fry for a while and I think they will dump her this time.

I don't approve of a lot of things Svend has done but if there were more mp'd like him we would have a better country. He was in his mid 20's (25 or 27) when he was first elected so he has expeirence.

Give it up, Colpy. You are trying to stigmatise him becasue he has an illness. That illness can be successfully treated, according to mental health professionals...a field that you claim no expertise in.

Svend's bipolar disorder wasn't being treated when he took the ring, largely because of the misguided opinions of people like you. He was afraid to seek help because he knew that the jabbering from the know-nothings would start immediately.
