We could do a lot worse than General(ret.) Rick Hillier.
Red Green would be a better choice...Tom Green is my choice
Juan "that is the stupidest thing you've ever said so far". I'm quoting you Juan. A man I respect because you can cook. Public official selection, I'm not so sure. I have decided not to ever vote for you again. The scumbag terminator for GG. Don't you think there might be a perception problem? I cannot help but think that he would irrepairable damage Canadas position, globally. At least lay off the cooking wine for awhile.
I made the mistake of thinking this was a serious topic about the selection of our next Governor General. Rick Hillier probably has some idea what a general is because he was one, and a real one at that. Hillier is likely more intelligent than any of the politicians appointing him(this might not be an advantage) Hillier speaks both languages fluently. He would look great in the uniform. What else could anyone want? Don't worry though. Hillier likely wouldn't take the job.
I think that the term of Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean C.C., C.M.M., C.O.M., C.D., the Governor General of Canada, should simply be continued. No party has a majority of seats in the House of Commons, and this will likely be true through at least the next general election; it would make sense to have someone who has some experience in the tricky constitutional waters of minority governments stay in office for the time being. Also, it seems quite apparent that our present Governor General takes Her Excellency’s constitutional role very seriously, considering the bold move of consulting with the prime minister for two hours before accepting his request for prorogation some two sessions back.
Nice lady and easy to look at but an intellectual light-weight and a resume even thinner than she is.I think that the term of Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean C.C., C.M.M., C.O.M., C.D., the Governor General of Canada, should simply be continued. Rick Hansen has said he is not interested in it.Others besides Rick Hansen being considered for the position are: (according to a report in the Vancouver Province) Inuit Leader; Mary Simon and ret'd Gen. John de Chastelain.
uhuh. That was a rumor started by The Star.Rick Hansen has said he is not interested in it.
If Michaëlle Jean?s gone, who will be next governor-general?A spokeswoman for the Rick Hansen Foundation says no formal offer has been extended to the wheelchair athlete best known for wheeling around the globe 25 years ago to support spinal-cord research.
Spokeswoman Erin McMillan told Canwest News Service, however, that Hansen would “very, very seriously” consider the offer if asked.
“(The possibility) has come up from time to time and he continues to be grateful that Canadians would like to see him in such a position of honour, but he has not been formally asked,” McMillan said.
“If Rick were formally asked, he would certainly consider the offer very, very seriously. I think he would weigh all of his priorities ... and he would see where it would stack up against those priorities,” she said, adding Hansen’s family and timing would play a big role in the decision.
“But he would consider it.”
The Star cited an anonymous senior source who said Hansen had rejected an offer, choosing to focus on personal “long-range aims and objectives.”

That was reported in the beginning. However, the news now states that he would seriously consider it, if it is offered to him. I guess I need to clarify that his spokeswoman said he would very very seriously consider it.Rick Hansen has said he is not interested in it.
An intellectual lightweight? Excuse me, but didn't you nominate Preston Manning a political leader whose entire platform was based on 1950's values?
