Canadian heading La Francophonie could be good for Canada. Could also be bad depending on point of view. Lr's wait and see as it is sure to be interesting!

Which Harper and the Conservatives have done many times as well with the BQ, but that seems to escape your arguments.

One specific thing to note:

Right-wing roadmap? Harper wrote of 'effective coalition' plan in 1996 article

But hey, do as I say, not as I do right?

It was fine for Harper to think of doing this to win power, but when faced with it, suddenly it's wrong.

Hypocrisy if you ask me.

Many times Harper and the Cons dealt with the Bloc against Paul Martin, and why not? They're a recognized and legitimate political party in Canada.

Yep. And he was wrong the first time, and it is hypocritical of him to panic second time.

But I am glad he came into the light.

As for the BQ, dealing with them and co-operating with them on an issue-by-issue basis is completely
different than bringing them in to gov't.

How dare you suggest that the PM is not a Canadian.

"As leaders of the opposition parties, we are well aware that, given the Liberal minority government, you could be asked by the Prime Minister to dissolve the 38th Parliament at any time should the House of Commons fail to support some part of the government’s program.
We respectfully point out that the opposition parties, who together constitute a majority in the House, have been in close consultation. We believe that, should a request for dissolution arise this should give you cause, as constitutional practice has determined, to consult the opposition leaders and consider all of your options before exercising your constitutional authority. Your attention to this matter is appreciated."

Just because Harper hangs about under the con banner doesn't mean his shat don't stink.

Well isn't that a myopic view of the democratic process when you can focus so exclusively on the Governor General while totally ignoring the sidestepping of democratic process when parties elected on supposedly differing platforms suddenly unite to completely ignore the wishes of the electorate who voted for their respective platforms.
