"A nation is a group of people who share the same illusions about themselves"
But yes, it can also mean a geographic or geopolitical unit. People seldom clarify which sense of the word they intend.

The english language is literally the Borg of languages.

It assimilates all other languages.

It is the planet's current "lingua Franca" but that is merely a temporary situation.

The Romans left a much broader linguistic legacy behind them.

I find it hilarious that people speaking English use a Latin phrase to name the French language; especially when they're referring to English itself, albeit metaphorically, as the French language. (Or vice versa :)?)

Quel(le?) hoot!

THen why are you doing it?
Like all words, in discussion "nation," "national," etc have always meant whatever the speaker intended them to mean. Unfortunately it can be unclear to the listener, exactly in what sense a word is being used. Not only that; in less-than-ethical debate the listener will often deliberately respond as if a different meaning was in play. Referring to a dictionary can be a variation on this ploy; effectively changing the subject.

Latin is only one illustration (from the latin to light up or enlighten) of the way english assimilates all languages.

having english racists complain about 'immigrants' fouling the language is foolish in the extreme, yet only the normal xenophobia (from the greek) around here.

Also clerk of the privy council - a non partisan - totally disputes her version of events and her interpretation of the law.
The clerk of the privy council is suppose to be non partisan.

With a dpa in place only the people who broke the law get punished.

It is used extensively in Canada and everywhere else on earth.

DPA does not change anything in regards to the laws being pursued.

Both of these statements are wrong, and the DPA has never been used in Canada. In fact that was part of Trudeau's 'justification' for asking JWR to seek advice about it.

Are you for real? SNC LAVALIN along with the Trudeau government created this D.P. model, and like a the crooks they are, stuck it into an omnibus bill hoping no one would notice. You should have some more of that RED KOOLAID, it'll take the sting off your obvious hypocrisy. Why should the attorney general resign for defending the law and adhering to a code of ethics? Your answer is to step aside gracefully so that the demented child king can appoint another pawn?

Well, I have to say that I am glad she exposed the Trudeau Liberals for the liars and crooks they are. She decided to do the right thing, which by they way isn't always the easy thing, she should be commended for it. Jane Philpott should also be commended for stepping out of the rank and file and standing up for what is right.

Screw Trudeau and his bullsh!t excuses. He shouldn't have demoted her. He shouldn't have gagged her. He shouldn't have put her in that bloody position in the first place. He also shouldn't have gotten mixed up with a corrupt company like SNC Lavalin and then succumb to their wish to have the law changed to meet their needs.

The Prime Minister should resign.
Michael Wernick, Clerk of the Privy Council should resign.
Gerald Butts already resigned.
Attorney General of Canada David Lametti should resign.

and that's for a start.

This particular DPA is new but it is simply codifying agreements that happens in the normal course of things in Canada and everywhere else.

This particular DPA is the particular topic of this thread. It has never before been part of a Canadian LAW which is why there's a problem with any politician trying to influence its use.
