I honestly cannot grasp why "lefties" support Chavez, if anything you should be condemning him for giving the socialist concept (which is a valid and workable economic system, its what all nations in the world use to some degree, cost-benefit analysis for social programs).
He is a right wing dictator. He breaks up large estates not to help the poor, but to break down anyone who might have enough resources to stop him. He still lives in a mansion while people starve.
