Should the Olympic Games be used as a forum to express political messages?

No...now follow along.....I need the dear leader of Iran to say for himself in English that he does not want Isreal to be wiped off the face of the planet and while he's at it maybe he could explain why he thinks the holocaust is a myth. Perhaps he would if there weren't so many lefties like you defending him for some odd reason.

First off, your dear Grand Imperial Poobah really doesn't give a shyte if you, of all folks, knows what he means. See, this may come as a surprise to you, but you matter less to Iran than camel dung. If he believes the holocaust is a myth, that may well be because over the years, as the legacy has been passed on to sucessive generations, Israel has exaggerated a national grudge to almost mythical proportions. Second off: It is your warped perspective that I am defending anyone. Third, my politics are none of your freaking business. Get rid of the label maker. Left. Right. Can't you idiots think without pigeonholes to fit your crap?

I totally agree with your comment , with only one exception, when a business, a person, or a country ends up with a bad credit history then the above are all excluded from credit powers, I don’t think in this case civil rights abuses can be any deferent from credit.

The Chinese iron grip is morally bank robed when it comes to civil rights respect and they deserve the same treatment…. Exclusion from the opportunity in classifying them self’s as credible, while telling the world lies only lies on how great they are, when in fact the truth is recorded with young blood apposing their dismal human rights record in the past 200 years.
Based on your logic, the yankees should be excluded because of their illegal war...

Really, it's sad to see the spirit of athletic competition become just another platform for political gain, racial disharmony and greedy exploit. Maybe it's about time to either go back to the roots, or study the olympiad in history books.

Very good comment wolf, and it is most certainly true.

However, in todays Olympic events even the IOC has become political.

No, it's Games and Athletes, not a Political Forum... let them play and get their medals and honor that they practiced and worked hard for.... we have four more years to get political before the next.

Politics follows every single thing these days. It used to be radio broadcasters filling the airwaves. Then Television broadcasters. Now blogs and personal multi-media devices. It's an inevitable consequence.

But don't be so deluded to think that politics hasn't been involved in the Olympics from the start. Ever heard of old Greek History that wasn't involved in Politics, or Philosophizing? Are conspiracies more common now than the tales of yore? You don't think having that having Olympic champion in a particular city state's army was a boost for moral, or the power struggles within?

Winning the Games is political, having more medals is political, the traveling dignitaries are political, the media is still the media. Of course the games should be used as such.

There's always been politics mixed in with the Olympics. They were originally part of religious festivities. Know of any religions that don't have their own politics?
BTW, did you know that the competitors in the original Olympics were professionals and were men? No women were allowed to compete and sometimes weren't even allowed to watch.

The Olympics are what you make of them. If that means you think about the politics of some of the countries involved, then so be it. The thinking will do you good.;)

Healthy competition is a good thing and I think an unspoiled sporting event is a good way to open up and share some of the good stuff that makes up all these different cultures. Often we focus only on the problems and work the wedge that divides us.

There is a spiritual benefit to finding some athlete to admire during these games, following along with the tension creeping in and the joy of seeing someone physically perform at the top of their abilities at this level.

If all you can take away from these games is a standard partisan snipe at your neighbour then maybe you should rethink a few things.

Well most see the politics in it, but the people playing in the Olympics are not speaking out their favorite political party, or which country should be doing what with their people..... they're there to play.... to do their best, and when the games are on, it's the athletes that are being talked about.... I just don't see why Politics should tag along.
