we have become a society of gripers. instead of calling ourselves earthlings we should change it to griplings.
The only coherent reason I'm seeing here is that it's a symbol of female oppression. I'm a little skeptical that a lot of you have suddenly become feminists. Either you actually care about symbols of female oppression, and what a discussion we can have about that!, or it's just the nicest sounding reason you can think.
yes and the road to gila bend Arizona is paved with good intentionsIMO.
The first duty of a free people is to insure that all of it's citizens share in that freedom.
If that means outlawing immoral, homophobic and misogynous religions like Christianity and Islam, I am all in for that.
The Islamic head and face wear is a tool of oppression and for any free society to tolerate it is to collude with slave owners and promote misogyny and a two class citizenry and I think Christianity has sowed down or progress towards civilization and I do not think we should regress by allowing Islam to bring it`s slave owning policies to any free nation.

The first duty of a free person is to enjoy that freedom. If it's good enough, you'll attract free attention. If you impose it, it ain't freedomIMO.

You figure imposing your "freedom" on someone else is a good thing? If it's truly free, nobody should have it forced upon them
We have a duty to preserve our security - NOT to tell people how they have to dress. If it's freedom they want, they'll take it free
Who are you to determine if the security of Muslim women is in jeopardy? That would be for the jeopardized to decide. How do you know your way is the right way and their way is wrong? It's their choice. That's freedom. For purposes of identification and security, nobody is free.
Who are you to say I am wrong?
I do not claim to be right. I am giving my opinion and history will determine who is right and wrong and if Canada want a homophobic and misogynist religion running the country, they will decide.
I for one respect women too much to ever vote for those you seem to support.
I have given a lot of information including women from within Islam speaking against their ways.
If you have anything to offer then please do.
Your politically correct rhetoric does not phase me in the least, --- but facts might.

I find it rather disheartening that in Western Culture, after the advances in human rights that have just been made in the last century, people are so utterly gutless when it comes to being branded as racist or anti Muslim.
The argument that it is the "woman's choice" is the same argument made in a lot of cases of abuse.
We live in a society where women are considered equals, therefore these rags of oppression should be completely unacceptable in this society.
There is considerable disagreement in how much advance the western world has made in human rights, how enthusiastic the power classes were about making that advance, and whether it intends to keep advancing.I find it rather disheartening that in Western Culture, after the advances in human rights that have just been made in the last century, people are so utterly gutless when it comes to being branded as racist or anti Muslim.
Does that render the argument invalid? Should women be denied choices because some make horribly bad choices? The argument that it is the "woman's choice" is the same argument made in a lot of cases of abuse.
I disagree. While women have, as you say, made great strides over the last century or so, there is still considerable disagreement over whether or not they are equals. We live in a society where women are considered equals, therefore these rags of oppression should be completely unacceptable in this society.
