The Liberal government’s federally imposed carbon tax is going to hit Canadians in their wallets and it’s time we were given the goods on how much that will cost.
On Monday, the Office of the Parliamentary Budget Officer released a zinger of a report. It mostly dealt with the economic and fiscal outlook for the coming year.
But contained in it were also projected cost estimates for the federal carbon tax Prime Minister Justin Trudeau plans to impose on every province.
The controversial tax starts at $10 per tonne this year and ramps up to $50 per tonne by 2022. That year, the PBO projects, it’ll suck $10 billion from Canada’s economy.
This will have the effect of reducing our GDP by 0.5%. In other words, Trudeau’s pet tax will play a role in shrinking the economy.
(In other words- in the first year- the carbon crap will shrink our economy by 0.5% with MORE ECONOMIC HITS with each rise in carbon price! It might not be so bad to contemplate except that carbon crap and trade ONLY cleans cash out of wallets and leave the dirt in the air! The LIE-beral carbon crap and trade tax is nothing but a gravy generator for LIE-berals seeking desperately to buy civil service union Hog votes! WE ALREADY HAVE 15 years of PROOF of this fact since LIE-berals designed their carbon crap on the now 15 year old, failed, corrupt and costly European model! LIE-beral policy is spinning in circles- they want to create good jobs and then turn and cripple us with that massive new tax- along with their standard demands for MORE GRAVY to buy the votes of their civil service union Hog allies! If their carbon crap were really about the environment then they would be working to limit careless/frivolous use of carbon fuel- instead of hitting at people trying to get to work and heat their homes and feed their families! Carbon crap drives up the price of EVERYTHING- without any selective process- things we need and careless frills are equally hard hit!)
A half a percentage point is no small potatoes either. That one single measure can have such a significant negative impact on the economy, and such questionable benefits for the environment is a problem – especially since the U.S. has rejected carbon taxes.
(Considering how many young people are semi employed and struggling with part time and temporary work- any further economic hits- such as a major increase in the carbon tax- will HURT the entire private sector badly! Too bad LIE-berals and Hogs do not care- they HAVE THEIR GRAVY and are both IMMUNE and ENTITLED!)
That $10 billion is an aggregate number though. How much will it hit your own wallet? What sort of dent in your family’s annual budget will this cause?
(The carbon crap impact will be very uneven in Canada! Hogs can look forward to a series of nice raises while private sector will get frozen wages and reduced hours of work! In the first 3 months of 2018 as the Ontari-owe LIE-beral minimum wage kicked in- we saw private sector losing jobs and dealing with reduced hours of work- LIE-berals told us this was for our benefit and they deny the harm done for NO REAL improvement! Any improvement in air quality in Ontari-owe is the result of Yankees CLOSING 140 coal fired electric generators and making them burn cleaner natural gas!)
That’s where things get tricky. Kudos to the PBO for doing the legwork on this. However, detailed numbers aren’t so readily available.
This isn’t because they can’t be tabulated. Or because they’re not tabulated. They are. It’s because the government isn’t willing to release them.
Finance Canada already has the figures in a report. But when Conservative MP Pierre Poilievre requested that report via access to information laws, all he received was a heavily redacted document.
(Gosh- LIE-berals are HIDING the truth? AGAIN! AS USUAL!)
The numbers were removed, as if this was some sort of national security secret. Give us a break!

We have a right to know – especially given that the calculations have already been done by our public servants.
The public is increasingly turning against carbon taxes – and with good reason. There are better ways to be environmentally friendly than hitting regular people where it hurts.
Trudeau needs to come clean on carbon taxes and reveal their true cost.
