Disagreeing with Holy Mother Church is not an option for a good Catholic. Doctrines are not open for debate amongst the laity.
Why, then, do you you suppose the flock is dwindling and there are fewer pockets to pick? People have wisened in the last hundred years and have begun to recognize control and imposed guilt when they see it.
It's not this case everywhere, priests, and their level of zealotry, their truth to the path of Christ, are as individual as their parishioners.

The Holy Roman Church decided a while ago that there wasn't actually a "holding cell" for human spirits....the "doctrine" changed..... Sanctus is correct, a message of hatred for homosexuals and the appropriate-ness of deprecating women are among the foundations of the Roman Catholic Church's "doctrine". It's about fear and hatred, no different than any other "religious-belief" that stones women to death and that affords itself so easily turned to the slaughter and destruction of those who'd believe anything other than the message of hatred and elitism that comes from Catholicism.
Sanctus doesn't care to meet the hypocrisy of the Roman Catholic Church directly, he'd avoid the Inquisition as evidence of corruption....like he avoids acknowledging that the RC church has for generations hidden away its pedophiles and its perverts.
Sanctus demands that you "believe"...so his own desperate investment in situational morality and relativism continue. No human being decides "morality" for the universe, not the ancients who translated and transcribed the scriptures nor the modern-day haters like Sanctus who seek to build barriers and boundaries behind which their own hatred and fear can live. It doesn't matter if its an Anglican, a Protestant or a Mormon, "religion" is about erecting bulwarks of mistrust and conditioning the thinking of millions to the end of creating a world divided against itself.

As enlightened beings we must endeavour to extent the utmost civility to our challenged colleques (sp) in an inspired outreach to enable them to elevate thier perspective to a level they would not normally have risen to left to thier own poor criticle facualties(sp). The official stories are not healthy places for self afirmation. I think many people adopt a stance and admit only what enhances. We all have it though, embedded things from decades ago that cling to our identities like burrs, hard to carve new paths in the brain when old ones are so comfortable.
"Chosen reality"? That has meanings beyond the simple words. Where does reality come from? How do they construct it? Who profits? Why do they hate us? What's wrong with our values? Why has god forsaken us? Are we sacrificing enough slaves ,gays, virgins ,leftys, liberals, bankers,? The "chosen reality" must be assembled by chosen builders? How were the chosen chosen? What was the selection criteria? What evolutionary changes have resulted in the selection of human hierarchys to accomodate such unacceptable evil which is routinely accepted if it accelarates growth and developement?
If we continue accepting the unacceptable will we be compelled to endure the unendurable like most of the worlds poor?

. It all started as a joke when I first moved here to a very gay friendly neighbourhood. He would only play with the other boy dogs. I can't tell you how many times he's gone straight to a male dog and started licking his male dog bits! He's also always been very prissy. He doesn't want to get dirty, doesn't like walking on wet grass... he even holds his wrist up a lot and dangles his paws. It wasn't until I tried to breed him that I finally believed it for real. though Usually a female in heat will drive a male nuts!!! She stuck her butt into my dog's face and he looked disgusted and turned away... He had absolutely no interest in that icky thing. Since then, he's found a sort of boyfriend at his dogsitters, he's been given a pink leash that says "My dog is gay and it's ok" and he's been asked to go on a float in the city's gay pride parade. We had to turn them down since he doesn't like crowds, but how many people can say that about their dog? That's why I say he's as gay as a handbag and I don't care one bit
Purgatory is still a doctrine. You are talking about LIMBO, not quite a doctrine, but more a widely held belief that was re-evaluated.

And who decides? Are there updates to the scriptures that only the Pope has subscription to....?
